Long story short: I got my friend Jeff's old couch for just the cost of a Uhaul.
Longer version: The car rental place in my 'hood turned out to be some kind of scam/front/phantom (though I called them) and I was trying to figure out other options when my friends offered to rent a Uhaul and bring it to me themselves. (The original stipulation of the free couch was getting it myself.) They delivered it around noon! What did I do to deserve such good friends??

This is a compatible remote control for the SX50 bought on Ebay.
It does more than the original remote from Canon and cost less.
Remote control, self-timer, time lapse, exposure count.
It also does long exposure, but not with the SX50 as it does not have a "bulb" setting.

Today I went to go see, S H I T. I kid you not. There is an exhibit of a man who took pictures of crap. He then blew up the images to life-size, saturated the colour, played with depth of field and put them in an art gallery. The nicest thing this artist could do was put a picture of his mother's poo up on display. Every mothers' dream come true!
