Cenobio rebuilt by the Count of Castile García Fernández el de las Manos Blancas around the year 990, who was buried there. According to tradition, the remains of the Judges of Castile remain in that place; the children of El Cid María Rodríguez, Cristina and Diego, who died at an early age in the battle of Consuegra (Toledo); Ramiro Sánchez de Pamplona, lord of Monzón (husband of Cristina Rodríguez, daughter of the Cid) or Ramiro de León, son of Alfonso I the Great of Asturias.
The bodies of the Cid Campeador were kept here until the looting of the tomb in 1808 first, and then, with the remains that were recovered, until the confiscation of 1835.
The New Forest National Park, created in in 2005, is one of the largest remaining tract of unenclosed pasture, heathland and forest in Southern England. The landscape is shaped by grazing cattle, ponies, donkeys and deer.
Nature escapade to meet the ibex of the Vercors .
The Alpine ibex can travel great distances, as long as it remains in its habitat: the cliffs and rocky ridges. It can descend a little lower in altitude in winter and willingly shelters on the sunniest slopes during the summer.

Thank you all for your visit and your messages and I wish you a pleasant weekend.

Standing on the easternmost summit of Ratitovec massif, we have a very nice view towards the west, on the remaining summits of Ratitovec and on the Triglav massif right behind.
Capture taken during this years early September trip to the Dolomites with some friends. While others still in bed, I went early to Passo Giau and took some effort to get up to the Forcella die Giau. The moon was shining bright and so the scenery is getting some extra illumination. Have a good remaining week. Thanks, Udo.
Mameda Town and its surroundings, which developed as a townspeople's land during the Tenryo period, retained a lot of land division at the time of residence, and traditional buildings remain well as a group, so the range of about 10.7 hectares was selected as a national important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings on December 10, 2004.
This fern has remained a vivid green and looked super healthy throughout the cold winter. It’s in an outdoor planter. These gorgeous golden leaves grew so quickly in the spring. I took this photo to identify the type of fern so I can plant a bunch of them in my yard!

In September, Nebraska’s sunsets transform into breathtaking spectacles, amplified by the dramatic presence of thunderstorms and supercells. As summer’s heat begins to wane, the Great Plains remain a hotbed for dynamic weather, with warm, moist air clashing against cooler fronts to create vibrant, fiery skies. The sun dips below the horizon, painting the vast Nebraska landscape in hues of orange, pink, and purple, often intensified by towering cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds, illuminated by the fading light, glow with an ethereal quality, their edges tinged with gold as the sun’s rays refract through the atmosphere. The open plains offer an unobstructed view, making the interplay of light and storm clouds a daily masterpiece, where the sinking sun seems to set the sky ablaze against the silhouette of distant fields.
For those in rural areas, watching a September supercell at sunset is an unforgettable experience. The air grows heavy with the scent of rain, and the distant rumble of thunder provides a soundtrack to the visual spectacle. Farmers and storm chasers alike pause to witness the sky’s drama, knowing that these storms can bring both vital rain and potential destruction to the region’s corn and soybean fields. The fleeting moments when the sun’s last rays pierce through breaks in the storm clouds create a sense of timelessness, connecting the observer to the raw, untamed spirit of the Plains. In Nebraska, September sunsets paired with thunderstorms and supercells are not just weather events—they’re a vivid reminder of nature’s ability to inspire wonder and respect in equal measure.

Ashes Remain - On My Own
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG--g1gMrGo
There's gotta be another way out
I've been stuck in a cage with my doubt
I've tried forever getting out on my own
But every time I do this my way
I get caught in the lies of the enemy
I lay my troubles down
I'm ready for you now
Break me out
Come and find me in the dark now
Every day by myself I'm breaking down
I don't wanna fight alone anymore
Break me out
From the prison of my own pride
My God, I need a hope I can't deny
In the end I'm realizing
I was never meant to fight on my own
Every little thing that I've known
Is every thing I need to let go
You're so much bigger than the world I have made
So I surrender my soul
I'm reaching out for your hope
I lay my weapons down
I'm ready for you now
Break me out
Come and find me in the dark now
Every day by myself I'm breaking down
I don't wanna fight alone anymore
Break me out
From the prison of my own pride
My God, I need a hope I can't deny
In the end I'm realizing
I was never meant to fight on my own
I don't wanna be incomplete
I remember what you said to me
I don't have to fight alone
Break me out
Come and find me in the dark now
Every day by myself I'm breaking down
I don't wanna fight alone anymore
Break me out
From the prison of my own pride
My God, I need a hope I can't deny
In the end I'm realizing
I was never meant to fight on my own
Perhaps one of Germanys most famous statues stands on guard at the convergence of the mighty Mosel and Rhein rivers the Deutsches Eck (German Corner).
The Statue is a typical Prussian martial style equestrian statue of William I, the first German Emperor it was created in 1897 in gratitude after his death for being the Father of the modern Empire and the unification of Germany.
During WWII it was mistakenly destroyed by artillery when they mistook it for enemy troops and it remained just a plinth until 2 September 1993 when sculptor Raymond Kittl finished producing an improved replica created from bronze plates this time around instead of copper.
I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens processed in LR, PS luminosity masks and DXO Nik

Once one of Scotland’s largest castles, Urquhart saw great conflict during its 500 years as a medieval fortress. Control of the castle passed back and forth between the Scots and English during the Wars of Independence. The power struggles continued, as the Lords of the Isles regularly raided both castle and glen up until the 1500s.
The last of the government troops garrisoned here during the Jacobite Risings blew up the castle when they left. Urquhart’s iconic ruins remain, offering glimpses into medieval times and the lives of its noble residents.

One of the last remaining squeri in the city. Situated on the Rio di San Trovaso and Rio dei Ognissanti canal.
Why this photograph is one of my best shots - I like the light on the water and on the shiny black lacquer of the gondola. And I like the quiet nature of this canal, the Rio dei Ognissanti, particularly at this moment. There were a lot of people milling about, eating cichetti and drinking wine from Cantinone Gia' Schiavoni, but this scene seems far removed from all that activity. Most of all, it reminds me of the Venezia that I quickly came to love on my first visit there.

Wow... I finally moved south of Miller Nebraska as this storms majestic beauty was all done, but I had to get the last remaining light of the day with ending of this storm.
I stayed around for a few more snaps, there is nothing like a good Nebraska landscape/stormscape at sunset!

Always remained a favourite but again it is not difficult and resulting like this was of course mirroring the smoke shot then inverting it. Simples....Sue :)
Few structures remain of this once thriving town that began as a stage stop on the Gold Belt Route; in the early days known as the shortest distance between St. Louis and Denver. We met a man who has living on the adjacent property since 1955, who was able to reminisce about many of the buildings and businesses which have disappeared. A large lumberyard stood in front of these structures. The building on the left is the old livery barn, and looks to be in good shape though there is a worrisome hole in the roof.

Kaiser appears to have body dysmorphia and thinks that he will be able to fit in something this small - lol.
I had my CT scan last Monday and am still awaiting the results. It was no fun at all not eating for 48 hours. I would love to say I dropped a few pounds but, like Kaiser, I remain well padded. Another raining weekend ahead so I will be surprised if we get out
Happy Furry Friday everyone
Wishing you a happy and safe weekend
One of Amtrak's original P40s brings the eastbound Capitol Limited through Rockwood, overtaking train U165 on the right. Although now upgraded to P42DC standards, these remain some of the oldest engines on Amtrak's roster still in passenger service, with the remaining fleet turning 30 years old this year. With the coming onslaught of Siemens power, who knows how much longer they'll be around.

Amongst all the Kittiwakes a few Little Gulls were also blown in. These seemed to fair better than the Kittiwakes, constantly feeding on remaining insects.
Canada's newly minted National Bird:
Gray jays are year-round residents of Canada — remaining in the northern forest when the majority of loons and Canada geese have flown south and even snowy owls have descended from the Arctic — and they are astonishingly good at making the most of even the coldest, darkest winter months. These tough birds are unique for nesting as early as February, while the forests are still thick with snow, and have been recorded incubating eggs in snowstorms and at temperatures as cold as -30 C.
They are important to Indigenous Peoples. The common moniker “whiskey jack” has nothing to do with the grain-based alcohols, but is rather an anglicization of the Cree Wisakedjak and similar variations used by nations in the Algonquian language family, which makes the gray jay Canada’s only bird commonly referred to by a traditional Indigenous name.
Schloss Sigmaringen was the princely castle and seat of government for the Princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Situated in the Swabian Alb region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, this castle dominates the skyline of the town of Sigmaringen. The castle was rebuilt following a fire in 1893, and only the towers of the earlier medieval fortress remain. Schloss Sigmaringen was a family estate of the Swabian Hohenzollern family, a cadet branch of the Hohenzollern family, from which the German Emperors and kings of Prussia came.
The castle and museums may be visited throughout the year, but only on guided tours.
NS C40-8 8716 is at East Point, Georgia on May 23, 2015. The remaining C40s by this date had limited time remaining.
The SW slopes of Veliki Javornik were once mostly grassy, so we used to ski down there joyfully. Today they are overgrown by a quite thick forest. But lumberjacks are always active. On the place seen here, they made a clearing, where only 8 trees still remain. Far in the background Triglav is observing if all goes right.
Back from a little half-term break down in South Devon. After a horrendous start with storm Barbara passing through and no chance for any quality time outdoors we were lucky with the remaining two days of our stay. We somehow managed to find those precious windows of sunshine in between rain showers and made most of it. On one of those golden moments we decided to spend some time at the fantastic Ayrmer Cove again, a National Trust maintained secluded beach with nice silvery cliffs and interesting rock formations (the shark fin). The sea was adequately rough for an autumn day and there was lots of foam building up. We even spotted a Portuguese man o' war lying in the sand for a bit of wildlife. The other nice thing was that we had that beach literally to ourselves until we decided to miss out on the next rain front and headed back up to the car.
For those interested, I made a small video of the cove: youtu.be/-VgjMlB49e8d
Years ago the wind felled this tree, enough roots remained in the earth to keep the tree alive, it is still productive.
Here is another set of wood duck photos from autumn of 2022. The small lake where they spend much of their time has a crabapple tree, full of crabapples, that they just adore eating. Northern Colorado.
The remaining light-colored buzzard of four, this one is still quite active and does not let itself be approached (here photographed from behind the bushes). One light-colored buzzard is dead, a second has disappeared and the dark buzzard, which was brought to the bird shelter, is on the mend. In the meantime, 2 more dark buzzards have arrived in the area. Many sick and malnourished buzzards are brought to the bird shelters.
Blue eranthemum a strongly branched evergreen shrub, it is popular with gardeners because of the spikes of flowers that are bright gentian blue – an unusual color in the tropics. The flowers appear from green-and-white veined bracts that remain after the blooms fall, forming a column several centimetres long. The flower is approximately 2 cm in diameter

The Dabaklamm Gorge and the Dorfer Valley can be reached from Burg, a district of Kals am Grossglockner. For a long time the Dorfer Valley was comprised in the project of a huge artificial lake, which would have inundated the entire valley. When the project failed, two charming excursion destinations remained: the Dorfer Valley which is famous for the mountain huts and agriculture, as well as the wild romantic Dabaklamm Gorge at the valley entrance.
