Noke church is a modest two-cell structure dating back to the 13th century (replacing a Norman predecessor) consisting simply of a humble nave and chancel. It is a very rustic building with only a bellcote protruding above roof level (a 19th century replacement a previous square wooden belfry).
The interior is as humble as one would expect from the exterior, the main 19th century intervention being the scraping of plaster from the walls. There was a mortuary chapel added to the north side in the late 16th century but this was demolished in 1745 after falling into disrepair and a few of its monuments remain, such as the brass to the Bradshaw family and the mutilated remains of the early 17th century effigy of Benedict Winchcombe peering out from behind the pews in the chancel. The west window has some fetching modern glass depicting red and white poppies to mark the anniversary of the ending of World War II.

Monday morning's attempt to get off the roads and onto some footpaths was frustrated by wet meadows and nettle-crowded stiles and paths.
Still, did a good three hours over to Dulas / The Trout (as was) and on to Ewyas Harold via the nature reserve and a footpath (first walking) into the recreation ground.
