The bronze statue that once stood atop the Pitt County Confederate Soldiers Monument is secured for transport as the sun begins to rise on Monday, June 22. Crews worked throughout the night to disassemble the monument while hampered by equipment issues; the remainder of the monument was removed on Tuesday evening. Work was performed at night to prevent interfering with traffic, court proceedings, and businesses in the Uptown area.

On Monday, June 15, the Pitt County Board of Commissioners voted to relocate the memorial due to threat of vandalism and concern for public safety after property damage occurred during rioting in the Uptown area two weeks earlier. Following the vote to relocate the monument, County Commissioners created a committee to select a new location for the statue, which has not been determined at this time.

The monument was formally dedicated in November 1914; various groups have called for its removal from the courthouse grounds since at least the 1990’s.

The Zgrip Handle with C300 Grip Relocator combines our new C300 Grip Relocator with our standard Zgrip Handle . The Zgrip Handle mount is fully articulating and is threaded to attach to one of our 15mm threaded rods. This enables you to make your own C300 Relocator mount to fit in seamlessly with your current kit.

To mount this combination to your rig, you can screw on any length female/female rod to the ½” thread on the Zgrip Handle and then add on a Zacuto Z-release accessory. A common attachment would be the Z-Mount II or Z-Mount Zwivel which would allow you to attach the Zgrip Handle with C300 Grip Relocator to a 15mm rod on your rig.

The Canon 300 removable grip attaches directly to our Relocator handle and our exclusive cable connects to the port on your camera. This product is the only option on the market today that includes the necessary cabling to attach to your camera. Once its plugged in, users have trigger or on/off control, lens aperture control, and a programmable function button that can be set to a number of things including waveform, 1 to 1 zoom, zebras, my menu, and many more.

If you already own a set of Zgrips or any Zgrip handle, you can simply purchase the C300 Grip Relocator and upgrade your Zgrip handle.

If you are looking for a double handgrip option check out our Zgrips V3 with C300 Grip Relocator.

Big Orange Landmarks

Norman doorway relocated from the old church at Baddesley Ensor following its complete rebuilding in the Victorian period.

St Mary's in Atherstone is a large church tucked away among the trees beyond the marketplace, crowned by its unusually designed octagonal tower. It has had an equally unusual history, the chancel having been originally an independent chapel served from Mancetter, and by the end of the 14th century was serving as the church of a friary, at which point the church seems to have been rebuilt, with the nave used as the parish church and the eastern half for monastic use.

Of the medieval building only the eastern half remains along with the octagonal tower (the upper storey of which was rebuilt to its current design in 1782). The nave and aisles were completely rebuilt in 1849-50 (by Wyatt & Brandon). The medieval chancel had for some years been separated from the church and used by the grammar school, but was restored to church use in 1864.

The exterior is thus largely post-medieval work, but is still enjoyable for its unusual form, and the chancel's original warm red sandstone makes the view from the south east the most attractive.

Entry is by the south porch, and once inside the spaciousness of the Victorian nave is readily apparent, and seems even wider thanks to the group of narrow medieval arches beyond leading to the old chancel. The central arch and piers support the tower, whilst either side are chapels, effectively transepts that extend no further than the width of the aisles (and externally are treated no differently). The eye is drawn to the largely hidden space beyond, with the east window so neatly framed by the central tower arch.

This arrangement effectively divides the church into two very different spaces, the nave broad and fairly typical of a Victorian town church, whilst the chancel is long and narrow and clearly of much greater antiquity, albeit somewhat restored. The furnishings are all Victorian or later, but the easternmost windows contain some attractive glass by the studio of C.E.Kempe, typically rich in detail.

St Mary's is happily one of the more accessible and welcoming churches in the otherwise difficult north of the county. A cafe operates on some weekdays in the partitioned area at the west end of the nave, thus the church is accordingly kept open for a few hours.

Bee relocation to Top Bar Hive.

The relocation process is complicated and difficult especially when you don’t know how to pack fragile items for moving. So, when it comes to boxing up your breakable things, you need to be very careful. We at #crosscountrymovers give you a brief guideline about how to pack fragile items carefully. Watch the videos for more information.

LEICESTER’S High Cross monument was relocated close to its original 16th century location on 10 October 2014.

The single stone pillar, which stood close to Leicester Market in Cheapside, was moved to the High Street side of Jubilee Square, where it once marked the historic heart of the town.

In medieval times, the High Street ran from the North Gate to the South Gate and would have been the most important street in the town. By the 12th century, this area had become the economic heart of Leicester and weekly markets were held there.

The High Cross was built in 1577 to provide shelter on this important road. The original structure consisted of eight pillars in a circle, mounted with an eight-sided dome. It fell into disrepair over the next two centuries and was pulled down in 1773.

Just a single pillar survived. This had many homes over the years, including The Crescent in King Street, the garden of a private house in Gwendolen Road, and Newarke Houses Museum.

In 1977, the Leicester Rotary Club marked its sixtieth anniversary by moving the High Cross to its current location by Leicester Market.

Hirst Conservation carried out the restoration and relocation of the High Cross. The Lincolnshire-based conservation specialists also carried the relocation of Leicester’s statue of Richard III to its hew home in Cathedral Gardens.

Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2018. Volunteers from Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club, and Konnarock Trail Crew alumni rallied to complete an A.T. relocation on the southern slope of Sinking Creek Mountain in central VA. This 0.4-mile switchback was started in 2016, and features a great deal of technical rock work as it crosses rock fields to replace a steep, eroded section near the top of the ridge.

An excellent photojournal of the relocation of American citizens:

yourlocaladda.com/forum/wallpapers-77/world-war-ii-intern...

In the early part of World War II, 110,000 persons of Japanese ancestry were interned in relocation centers by executive order No. 9066, issued on February 19, 1942.

Manzanar, the first of ten such concentration camps, was bounded by barbed wire and guard towers, confining 10,000 persons, the majority being American citizens.

May the injustices and humiliation suffered here as a result of hysteria, racism, and economic exploitation never emerge again.

(Words from the sign posted at Manzanar.)
