These moslim girls were praying in Istanbul's biggest and well preserved Church- Saint Antoine. I do myself believe in Humanity itself, prior to cultures, religions and national borders . This photo somehow reflects the aproach I desire humanity would chase after.

What did I learn? Firstly and most importantly, I learned how small my own knowledge is and that it is a very weak foundation for pronouncing judgement. Knowledge is composite and ever-changing. Over one thousand scholars wrote articles for this dictionary. Secondly, I learned that scholarship can only deal with the human factor in religion, from psychology to sociology, history and textual criticism. Thirdly, one learns about the power of words. Words can project you into heaven or hell - and religious texts have done so and continue to do so. Fourthly, I haven't got any wiser as to the divine. I am as ignorant as before - with perhaps the proviso that I am now much more critical of any statement claiming divine authority. Sorry folks, scholarship does not deliver the "truth", but what it does is clearing away a lot of debris that obstructs our view.

🇫🇷 L'église est construite entre 1613 et 1616, fondée par Anne-Catherine de Mantoue qui entre en religion, dans l'Ordre des Servites de Marie. 🇬🇧 The church was built between 1613 and 1616, and was founded by Anne-Catherine of Mantua, who entered the Order of the Servites of Mary. She was buried here, as was her daughter Marie of Austria (1584-1649). The church is a building that runs parallel to the street, with a Baroque choir and a chapel, the bays covered by a vault supported by marble pilasters. The war memorial and frescoes were painted by the artist Hans Andre between 1947 and 1953, and there is a beautiful fresco on the outside of what looks like an oriel window.

🇩🇪 Die Kirche wurde zwischen 1613 und 1616 erbaut und von Anna Katharina von Mantua gegründet, die in den Orden der Serviten Mariens eintrat. “I was born poor and without religion, under a happy sky, feeling harmony, not hostility, in nature. I began not by feeling torn, but in plenitude.”

GOING HOME – SOPHIE ZELMANI

I AM

I am born free

in a field with wild flowers in my hair

the sounds of nature first to touch my ears

the softness and warmth of the earth beneath me

first sight the bluest sky filled my eyes

and coloured them for all my life

the sun shone bright and hot that day

bathed my hair and always stayed

corn-coloured tresses and cornflower blue eyes

wild and messy with no earthly ties

my Dad delivered me you see

the only ones there were my Mum and me

small bunnies in the fields

small birds on the wing

the joy of my life

to them was everything

later I would run barefoot and free

laughing pure and clear

climbing all the trees

but then their lives both ended suddenly

and it seemed that time stood still

and everything went dark for me

and darker still when I fell ill

it's hard to understand the complexities of life

for some it's a walk in the park

for others endless grief and strife

with no flickering flame to light the dark

but all I can say about the mysteries that surround me

is that even through the darkest; wildest storms

it's still possible to find the light

it's still possible to break free

the heavy shroud I wore

too big for my young shoulders

slipped and fell and with it tore

the melancholy mantel

some days are still seeped in sad memories

but mostly I'm ok

I hope you'll better understand me

and why I disappear and hide some days

I need that time of quiet reflection

I need to reconnect

with nature and all it's miracles

that calm my mind and balm my soul

the healing nature of it's powers

that brings me back so bright and bold.

Eglise saint-Francois de paule nice

Photo taken at the Durbar Square in Kathmandu, Nepal

This is a blue hour shot of the "Roussanou" monastery at the "Meteora" monastery complex in Kalampaka, Greece.

I shot the monastery on the rock a few minutes after the sunset, and then waited for the sky to get dark and for a car to pass by the road so I can record some car trails. After a lot of waiting and misses ( a car crossing from the other direction at the same time highlighting everything with its bright white headlights ) I finally captured the so desired car light trails and it was time to photoshop blend the two exposures. This is the result!

Once upon a time churches were the tallest buildings in town, reaching for the heavens with their towers and belfries, steeples and spires... Now that secular skyscrapers have irreversibly won that race - is it the new religion?
