Reliance Jio’s 4G speeds came up as the free data offers are over, said a blogpost by OpenSignal. OpenSignal is an organisation that specializes in wireless coverage mapping.
So far the company has ranked Airtel as the number one in 4G speeds in India and had rated Jio’s network as the slowest in the country, with average download speeds of 3.9 mbps in July 2017. But now in new blogpost, in accordance with OpenSignal Jio’s speeds have increased by 50%.
Soon OpenSignalwill release its second state of Mobile Networks report for India. In Jio’s case, the company notes that it had topped the 4G network availability chart in their India analysis, but climb in user base came at the cost of network speed. Jio has already headed to cross 100 million users in India in just a year after its official launch.
Yet, OpenSignal indicates in their blogpost, the immense affect of free data offers was that the LTE network speeds for Jio were low. OpenSignal observes that, this has changed once the free data offers came to an end and customers were anticipated to get a recharge foe the services.
The blogpost by OpenSignal reads, “In April, most of Jio’s freebie plans ended, and customers found themselves paying for their data services. The result: Jio’s speeds have increased – not just increased, they’ve skyrocketed”.
According to the company, in January – March, the average speeds were around 4.3 Mbps, by April – June this has increased to 5.4 Mbps and for May – July period, Jio’s speeds stand at 5.8 Mbps. With the end of Jio’s free data offers on April 1 and till the end of July, the average 4G speed rised steadily, says OpenSignal’s data. The rise in speed is almost 50% (from 3.9 Mbps ti 5.8 Mbps).
The blogpost indicates the ground for the rise could also be that Jio enhanced the network to strengthen its customer base, which is huge and completely on 4G LTE. But it suggests the other ground can be that, users might have left the network after the free data offer ended and many more such reasons.
According to OpenSignal, combination of factors is accountable for the increase in speed.
