I picked up my Canon EOS 5D Mark III today and thought I'd head out and take some test shots after work. It was raining so not the best conditions, and unfortunately in all my excitement had my camera set to JPG mode (can't believe that is the default setting) but I managed to get some shots I was happy with. All in all it's an amazing update to what was an already amazing camera (5D2).
Probably my favourite feature tonight was the built in level sensor. It would have been difficult to get this shot level without it as the horizon was dark and obscured as a point of reference. Was great to get the shot into lightroom and not have to crop the image in order to straighten it.
It was also interesting learning the new button locations, the basics like on/off and live view have moved, and the zoom button location is also different.

The Wikipedia definition of “Chillwave states: “Chillwave, sometimes also referred to as glo-fi, is a genre of music whose artists are often characterized by their heavy use of effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines.“ Washed Out, Com Truise and Toro Y Moi have been heralded as its genre shifting leaders. Now, with Phil Gerus in the game, there’s an additional synonym for Chillwave.
This 23-year-old resident of Moscow, with an academic background in Classical piano and a big affection for jazz, expresses in music exactly what the Wikipedia article describes in words. Over the last three years Gerus has been releasing self-published music on the Net and on labels such as Fuse Lab (“Milk & Honey”) and Rhymast Music (“Ordinary Things”).
Why does a Russian pianist compose seductive, funky, melodic music that sounds as if it originated on the California Pacific coast? Phil explains, “Mainly, when I compose music, I’m searching for sexy and swing grooves” And he definitely finds them! The beats in “If Music Be The Food Of Love“ resemble waves breaking on coastal rocks; the soulful vocal rags wash up like driftwood; and here and there synth melody lines surface like swimming mermaids.
“Lust Escort” calls to mind legendary 80’s producers, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, or LA & Babyface celebrating a hallucinatory comeback. Would Surface, Cherrelle, Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam or even Toni Braxton sound like Phil Gerus if they were making music today?
“Surfing The Waves“ – despite its distorted edit – is so much ahead of its time that for a short moment you’ll feel totally disoriented. It’s similar to the sensation of a swirling wave ripping you apart. A rising tide of genius! And if Mariah Carey is looking for a really futuristic sound for her next album, she should listen to “Don’t Kiss Me While I Am Swimming“ and immediately afterwards, get Gerus’ phone number. This Russian musician doesn’t even cringe from sampling saxophones. But then, after he chops up and passes his sounds through the reverb filter, everything is transformed in the end to one big, fantastic dream.
Alex Barck, A&R at Sonar Kollektiv, is surely not the only person who right now wants to dance and groove exclusively to Gerus’ style of chillwave. And many more fans will soon be saying the same thing! The worldwide success of Phil Gerus is immanent.

It's more of a fan-art/tumblr isn concept than anything, much more than anything official we've seen from Taylor's team. This marks the third cover I've done for a Red Tour CD/DVD/Album type situation, can ya tell I'm ready for it? Hope to be doing a bit more in Photoshop! Summer's busy, work, travel, friends, but there'll be a bit more time for stuff like this.

I didn't get the time to go to the cinema before leaving my country of residence and as such, I didn't manage to see TRON Legacy, which has been running there (in Norway) since December 17.

I just finished watching the first and second season of the sadly short-lived cartoon series Spectacular Spider-Man. Batman and Spider-Man both have one major thing in common for me. My favorite portrayals of these characters, besides the comics, are animated series. Batman The Animated Series. And Spectacular Spider-Man. Yes, I favor the cartoon over the movies. YES, that includes Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. And it is simply because this show captured, so perfectly, who this character is, and what the universe around him is like. Nailing every facet, every aspect of the character, and supporting characters. This show was written by true comic book geeks, and often can be viewed as a best of of Spider-Man in Marvel comics. Capturing solid moments from every decade of the original source material; characters, gadgets, plot points, arcs -- and compiling into a giant stew. Is a stew a whole bunch of different parts all working well together? I don't know. But that's what this is. In the Sony Spider-Man films, it seems that they would get some aspects, and fail at capturing others. For me, SP2 being the most consistent, and accurate to the comics -- but even that movie is heavily flawed. For one, Spidey is a fucking deaf mute in those films and barely talks. In comparison to the Marc Webbs films, yes, deaf mute. In the reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, one big noticeable difference was the attempt to make Peter/Spidey more talkative, to give him more wit and humor. And even more so in the sequel. Which I appreciated. But, almost everything else fails. In ASP, Peter is a bit of a dick to his aunt and uncle, never coming across as that sweet kid, who had gained this strong moral center from Ben. And ASP2, well, you can look at my review for that. In Spectacular, everything is on point. This Spider-Man is funny, he's fast and lively. Peter loves his Aunt May and is always worried about her. At every turn, something goes wrong for Pete whenever he thinks things are looking up. He can't catch a break. And the City and police hate him. They're not off to the side of the street chanting his name. They hated him. Borrowing from the Amazing run, and the Ultimate run, it's portrayal of the supporting characters and villains was fantastic. His first crushes, with Betty and Liz, Harry's addiction. Eddie Brock. All solid, man. Particularly, when Peter was getting rid of the black alien suit, and the episode showcasing the importance of Ben in Pete's decision to stay true to who he is, was just fucking perfect. Yeah, this cartoon serious was phenomenal. And was going to go into some real interesting places before the plug was pulled. Shame. I say, Spectacular Spider-Man (animated series), aside from Bendis' Ultimate run, is my definitive Spidey.
