A three-week-old Hawaiian monk seal pup and its mother bask in the morning sun after a swimming lesson and feeding. Still resplendent in its beautiful black coat, this was the sixth pup born on Oahu during the 2023 season (PO6) named Lahina. Its mother, tagged RL42, is known as Leia and I observed her previously raise a pup on this beach in 2021.

The Hawaiian name for monk seals was "ilio holo i ka uaua" meaning "dog that runs in rough water." Endemic to Hawaii, this species of monk seal was established in the archipelago millions of years before the human populated main volcanic islands emerged above sea level. The original seal-occupied islands have since receded to coral atolls and are now part of Papahānaumokuākea. A recently updated survey estimate by NOAA indicates a small, but encouraging, population increase to 1,570 individuals throughout the Hawaiian archipelago. However, Hawaiian monk seals remain endangered and among the rarest of marine mammals.

MacroMonday, tema della settimana (molto particolare) relax.

Quando ho letto il tema della settimana ho pensato che questa volta non avrei partecipato, uno perché non avevo assolutamente idea di quale foto mettere e due perché volevo rimanere nel tema natura, quindi niente oggetti o cose create dall'uomo.

Mi è tornata utile questa foto, scattata al mare in Liguria, che pensavo di caricare un giorno o l'altro. Penso che si adatti perfettamente alla definizione di relax! ;-)

MacroMonday, theme of the week (very particular) relaxation.

When I read the theme of the week I thought that this time I would not participate, one because I had absolutely no idea what photo to put and two because I wanted to stay in the theme of nature, so no objects or things created by man.

I came back useful this photo taken at the sea in Liguria, which I thought about loading one day or the other. I think it fits perfectly to the definition of relaxation! ;-)

This is our granddog, Drax. He is a lover of good food, slow walks and sleeping in the sun. He is the real master of relaxation and can nap anywhere and at anytime! He is an excellent guard dog and his bark is bigger than his bite! He is half Jack Russell Terrier and half Zitsu

I was out all day (and definitely not relaxing) and forgot about this until the journey home - I then forgot again until a short while ago so just took a quick shot of one of my favourite Daphne du Maurier novels. My favourite way to relax is to read.
