I swear everytime I post something its related to some stupid change which has occured. Ugh. The last of the MRL locomotives have finally been removed from mainline service due to BNSF PTC going live. How ironic that the MRL was actually who began this PTC project but in the end became the victim. It's truly a waste as all 5 GP35's are likely sidelined but at the very least unable to lead trains any longer. Over the last few years of its existence the MRL spent over $500,000 to upgrade all 6 GP35's with a complete rewire and upgrade of the control system. MRL 405 has an easy tell by the red antennae right behind the cab. A close eye will also reveal the MRL 404 has been completed, as the class lights it wore its entire career have been removed and tastefully patched during the rewire. This was all done in house by MRL employees, not contractors. Now, who knows what will happen to them? Always thought they were pretty neat units who didn't seem to be very popular elsewhere but for the most part were very good workhorses in local service across Montana.

The western marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus) is a large harrier, a bird of prey from temperate and subtropical western Eurasia and adjacent Africa. It is also known as the Eurasian marsh harrier. Formerly, a number of relatives were included in C. aeruginosus, which was then known as "marsh harrier". The related taxa are now generally considered to be separate species: the eastern marsh harrier (C. spilonotus), the Papuan harrier (C. spilothorax) of eastern Asia and the Wallacea, the swamp harrier (C. approximans) of Australasia and the Madagascar marsh harrier (C. maillardi) of the western Indian Ocean islands.

Finally, something NOT fire related. The haze is just that -- not smoke. =)

I have had an interesting week or so, since the fire was contained on 7/27. I am just now beginning to get back to work and my various interests. The emotional impact of something like this is hard to assess, but finally, I feel as if I am coming out of it, enjoying the more mundane parts of my existance and experience. Thus, I wanted to share this more "classic" shot of the home I love so much

A fresh start (:

First most important, i want to apologize to everybody i may have let down, let wait or anything related to my absence.

A lot has happened in my life, good and bad, either way, it was busy!

I am a volunteer for shelters and take dogs into my home to find them a happy family, but i must train them etc, which is super fun but takes some time! :D

Then there is sl, well, i am not very social in game, i have amazing friends in real life, and sure i met awesome people in sl also, however, certain people think it is alright to say bad things about you. Or screw you over. Well, i will not let my guard down anymore!

It is hard to let people close, they make it even harder, if they lie.

I mean there is already so much bs going on in the world. Can we have and keep online as a safe space. Stop the gossip, stop the lying. Lets not go evil just because you are hiding behind screen.

Rant rant rant :p

Anyway i needed a break from all this. Now i am happy and refreshed! And ready for a new start. With this new beginning i wanted a new name.

Mori.

Hope ya`ll dig it!

With love,

Nalena. ♥

The Bottle Brush shrub is related to the New Zealand native Pohutukawa, but the two plants are quite different.

I'm certainly not an expert on New Zealand plants, but for starters, the Bottle Brush (above) is a shrub; the Pohutukawa grows into a tall tree, and: the Bottle Brush flowers look just like a brush that would be used to wash the inside of a bottle - whereas the Pohutukawa flower (though the same colour) is round in shape.

This Bloom was captured whilst on the same Walk as the Plovers were found in the previous Image - and like Pohutukawa (and their near cousins the Rata), they add a lovely splash of Red wherever they're found...!

I had to start work at 6am this morning, and although I was home by 3:30pm, I have to admit: I was - and am - feeling rather shattered (I must have been on holiday for too long)...! Then the Internet (AND disaster of disasters) Cable TV!!! went down as Gale-force winds roared up the Valley at high speed, and so - unable to get onto the Web - I went for a walk, wrote a couple of letters to Flickr Friends... posted this photo, and have now finally decided it's time to call it a night!

So I'm sorry Folks: I'll catch up with all your photos in the morning (I'm back on holiday!), but in the meantime: thanks for all your kind Comments!

And I return!! Life has taken an awful covid-related turn and I needed a break, but now I feel recovered.

And finally got around to decorating my home a little with all these pretty decor items <3

Sally and I independently had the same reaction to this cat. We only see it occasionally, and it is elusive, but I happened to have my phone in hand for this encounter with a neighborhood cat.

All three of our tabbies came about as a result of an ex-neighbor who had 2 tabby sisters. She thought it was funny that they "[kept] getting pregnant at the exact same time" and was indiscriminate about their care and who she gave them to. So that's two litters each before Camille brought her kittens to us (and the sister had another litter). This cat could easily be from one of those litters.

We have Camille (one of the mama cats), Camille's son Cricket, and Camille's "nephew" Cousin. When we first got them, we had to get a good look at their faces to tell them apart. But Cricket's nose is longer, and he has more red in his face, Camille's eyes are larger, etc. This cat has some of all three cats.

(All of our cats--including "the stripes"--are neutered.)

Red Deer - Cervus elaphus

In Rut!

The red deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the largest deer species. The red deer inhabits most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor, Iran, parts of western Asia, and central Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in northwestern Africa, being the only species of deer to inhabit Africa. Red deer have been introduced to other areas, including Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Peru, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. In many parts of the world, the meat (venison) from red deer is used as a food source.

The red deer is the fourth-largest deer species behind moose, elk and sambar deer. It is a ruminant, eating its food in two stages and having an even number of toes on each hoof, like camels, goats and cattle. European red deer have a relatively long tail compared to their Asian and North American relatives. Subtle differences in appearance are noted between the various subspecies of red deer, primarily in size and antlers, with the smallest being the Corsican red deer found on the islands of Corsica and Sardinia and the largest being the Caspian red deer (or maral) of Asia Minor and the Caucasus Region to the west of the Caspian Sea. The deer of central and western Europe vary greatly in size, with some of the largest deer found in the Carpathian Mountains in Central Europe.Western European red deer, historically, grew to large size given ample food supply (including people's crops), and descendants of introduced populations living in New Zealand and Argentina have grown quite large in both body and antler size. Large red deer stags, like the Caspian red deer or those of the Carpathian Mountains, may rival the wapiti in size. Female red deer are much smaller than their male counterparts.

The European red deer is found in southwestern Asia (Asia Minor and Caucasus regions), North Africa and Europe. The red deer is the largest non-domesticated land mammal still existing in Ireland. The Barbary stag (which resembles the western European red deer) is the only member of the deer family represented in Africa, with the population centred in the northwestern region of the continent in the Atlas Mountains. As of the mid-1990s, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria were the only African countries known to have red deer.

In the Netherlands, a large herd (ca. 3000 animals counted in late 2012) lives in the Oostvaarders Plassen, a nature reserve. Ireland has its own unique subspecies. In France the population is thriving, having multiplied fivefold in the last half-century, increasing from 30,000 in 1970 to approximately 160,000 in 2014. The deer has particularly expanded its footprint into forests at higher altitudes than before. In the UK, indigenous populations occur in Scotland, the Lake District, and the South West of England (principally on Exmoor). Not all of these are of entirely pure bloodlines, as some of these populations have been supplemented with deliberate releases of deer from parks, such as Warnham or Woburn Abbey, in an attempt to increase antler sizes and body weights. The University of Edinburgh found that, in Scotland, there has been extensive hybridisation with the closely related sika deer.

Several other populations have originated either with "carted" deer kept for stag hunts being left out at the end of the hunt, escapes from deer farms, or deliberate releases. Carted deer were kept by stag hunts with no wild red deer in the locality and were normally recaptured after the hunt and used again; although the hunts are called "stag hunts", the Norwich Staghounds only hunted hinds (female red deer), and in 1950, at least eight hinds (some of which may have been pregnant) were known to be at large near Kimberley and West Harling; they formed the basis of a new population based in Thetford Forest in Norfolk. Further substantial red deer herds originated from escapes or deliberate releases in the New Forest, the Peak District, Suffolk, Lancashire, Brecon Beacons, and North Yorkshire, as well as many other smaller populations scattered throughout England and Wales, and they are all generally increasing in numbers and range. A census of deer populations in 2007 and again in 2011 coordinated by the British Deer Society records the red deer as having continued to expand their range in England and Wales since 2000, with expansion most notable in the Midlands and East Anglia.

The grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), also known as the grey-faced woodpecker, is a Eurasian member of the woodpecker family, Picidae. Along with the more commonly found European green woodpecker and the Iberian green woodpecker, it is one of three closely related sister species found in Europe. Its distribution stretches across large parts of the central and Eastern Palaearctic, all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

The grey-headed woodpecker is more demanding than the European green woodpecker in terms of its habitat. It prefers old mixed coniferous forest with a high proportion of dead trees, feeding primarily on ants, although not being as exclusively dependent on this group as the green woodpecker. The grey-headed woodpecker's nest is typically excavated into dead or severely damaged trees.

The subspecies of grey-headed woodpeckers in the Himalayas and those in Sumatra were defined, in 2014, to be separate species Picus guerini and Picus dedemi, respectively, so that as of 2016, three subspecies remain part of Picus canus.,but IOC World Bird List are still treating P. canus guerini and P. canus dedemi as subspecies.

In the majority of areas for which population numbers are available, the grey-headed woodpecker is in decline. IUCN's Least Concern rating is primarily based on the large distribution of the species

Little Blue Herons build stick nests in trees alongside other colonial waterbirds. In the U.S., their populations have been in a gradual decline since the mid-twentieth

The gentoo penguin (Pygoscelis papua) is a penguin species (or possibly a species complex) in the genus Pygoscelis, most closely related to the Adélie penguin (P. adeliae) and the chinstrap penguin (P. antarcticus). The earliest scientific description was made in 1781 by Johann Reinhold Forster with a type locality in the Falkland Islands. The species calls in a variety of ways, but the most frequently heard is a loud trumpeting, which the bird emits with its head thrown back.

The gentoo penguin is easily recognised by the wide, white stripe extending like a bonnet across the top of its head and its bright orange-red bill. It has pale whitish-pink, webbed feet and a fairly long tail – the most prominent tail of all penguin species. Chicks have grey backs with white fronts. As the gentoo penguin waddles along on land, its tail sticks out behind, sweeping from side to side, hence the scientific name Pygoscelis, which means "rump-tailed".

The breeding colonies of gentoo penguins are located on ice-free surfaces. Settlements can be located directly on the shoreline or considerably inland. They prefer shallow coastal areas and often nest between tufts of grass.

Gentoos mainly live on crustaceans, such as krill and shrimp, with fish and cephalopods making up only about 15% and 10% of the diet respectively. They are, however, opportunistic feeders and around the Falklands are known to take roughly equal proportions of fish. R_25866

SN/NC: Congea Tomentosa, Verbenaceae Family

Congea tomentosa is a large tropical evergreen vine, commonly referred to as wooly congea, shower orchid, or shower of orchid. (Despite the name, it is not closely related to orchids). It is called lluvia de orquideas or terciopelo in Spanish, krua on in Thai, and rong bao teng in Chinese. Native to Myanmar and Thailand, it can be found elsewhere in South Asia, including Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia (Kedah), China (Yunnan), Bangladesh, and India (Assam, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal). Its native habitat is mixed forests 600–1200 meters above sea level. This tropical vine has been naturalized elsewhere, including the islands of the Caribbean, southern Florida, and southern California. In the United States, wooly congea can be grown outdoors in USDA zones 10 and 11. It does not tolerate frost.

Thomas the Apostle, also known as Didymus was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. Thomas is commonly known as "Doubting Thomas" because he initially doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ when he was told of it (as is related in the Gospel of John); he later confessed his faith ("My lord and my God") on seeing the places where the wounds appeared still fresh on the holy body of Jesus after the Crucifixion of Jesus. While it is often assumed he touched the wounds in art and poetry, the scriptures do not say that he touched the wounds, merely that Jesus invited him to do so, with it being unclear if he actually felt them.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_the_Apostle

Bartholomew the Apostle was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. Most scholars today identify Bartholomew as Nathanael, who appears in the Gospel of John.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartholomew_the_Apostle

Andrew the Apostle also called Saint Andrew, was an apostle of Jesus. According to the New Testament, he was a fisherman and one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus. The title First-Called stems from the Gospel of John, where Andrew, initially a disciple of John the Baptist, follows Jesus and, recognizing him as the Messiah, introduces his brother Simon Peter to him.

Andrew the Apostle was born to a Jewish family in Bethsaida, in Galilee, possibly between 5 and 10 AD. The New Testament states that Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter, and likewise a son of Jonah.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_the_Apostle

Matthew the Apostle (Saint Matthew) was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist.

Matthew is mentioned in Matthew 9:9 and Matthew 10:3 as a tax collector (in the New International Version and other translations of the Bible) who, while sitting at the "receipt of custom" in Capernaum, was called to follow Jesus. He is also listed among the Twelve Disciples, but without identification of his background, in Mark 3:18, Luke 6:15 and Acts 1:13.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_the_Apostle

Mark the Evangelist or Saint Mark, was the person who is traditionally ascribed to be the author of the Gospel of Mark.

According to Christian tradition, one of the four evangelists, the author of the Gospel of Mark. Mark the Evangelist is included among the seventy apostles and is identified with Mark-John, a disciple of the Apostle Peter; he is credited with the role of the founder of the Alexandrian church, which later became one of the most important episcopal sees.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_the_Evangelist

Saint Peter also known as Peter the Apostle, Simon Peter, Simeon, Simon, or Cephas, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and one of the first leaders of the early Christian Church. He appears repeatedly and prominently in all four New Testament gospels as well as the Acts of the Apostles. Catholic tradition treats Peter as the first bishop of Rome—or pope—and also as the first bishop of Antioch.

According to Christian tradition, Peter was crucified in Rome under Emperor Nero. The ancient Christian churches all venerate Peter as a major saint and the founder of the Church of Antioch and the Church of Rome,

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Peter

Philip the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. Later Christian traditions describe Philip as the apostle who preached in Greece, Syria, and Asia-Minor.

All three Synoptic Gospels and the Book of Acts list Philip as one of the apostles; he is always listed on the fifth place. The Gospel of John recounts Philip's calling as a disciple of Jesus. Philip is described as a disciple from the city of Bethsaida, and the evangelist connects him with Andrew and Peter, who were from the same town. He also was among those surrounding John the Baptist when the latter first pointed out Jesus as the Lamb of God. It was Philip who first introduced Nathanael (sometimes identified with Bartholomew) to Jesus. According to Butler, Philip was among those attending the wedding at Cana.

The Zebra Dove - Geopelia striata - is also known as Barred Ground Dove and is a bird native to Southeast Asia. Closely related to the Peaceful Dove of Australia and New Guinea and the Barred Dove of eastern Indonesia they grow to 20-23 centimetres in length with a wingspan of 24–26 cm.. They are known for their pleasant soft, staccato cooing calls and because of that they have become popular as pets especially in Thailand and Indonesia where they even hold cooing competitions to find the bird with the best voice. Feeding, either alone or in pairs, on small seeds from grasses and weeds and even taking small insects, they mainly inhabit scrub, farmland, and open country in lowland areas but are also commonly seen in parks and gardens. I spotted this one flying across a patch of land in Khao Lak, Thailand, and entering a small tree, I thought it was a Spotted Dove which was quite common for the area and just took a quick shot through the branches. I only realized what it was when I got home and started to process my pictures. Wish I'd have tried to get a bit closer now for a better picture. As well as the distinctive blue beak, the blue/grey face, and the striped neck, it's also worth noticing the unusual stripes on its feet and legs as well.

There is nothing beautiful about war, not even when it happens in an exotic place like Hawaii. Nonotheless, wars have been all over human history. Some of the most important facts of our history were related to combats and their outcomes. And on this very day and this very place, 76 years ago a key combat took place: the battle of Pearl Harbor. The attack was a surprise military strike by the Japanese armed forces to a US naval base located in the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It was the critical event that led USA to enter World War II. Who won and who lost may be very important historically, however at the end of the day humanity lost as thousands of people died on that beautiful island. Lets hope that as human beings we learned from our mistakes in the past and that present and future generations wont have to live the horror of another world war. What you see in this photo is the Submarine Bowfin that was used in various operations during World War II by US Navy. It was built in Portsmouth Navy Yard in 1942 and decommissioned on 1947 after 9 successful patrols. At the background you can see Ford island where the main airstrip that was under attack was located. Most of the US combat ships that were torpedoed and sinked were anchored in the main water area of this frame. Among them was USS Arizona, a ship that visitors can see from above during the tour.

This year Oliver and related Tractors were featured.

I go most every year to this, but I've never seen so many Oliver and related tractors at any Tractor Show.

Ferdinand Effinger, Sr., a German immigrant, founded the family brewing business in Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin in 1885. One of about 300 small breweries in Wisconsin when founded in the late nineteenth century, the Effinger Brewing Company was one of only 19 small breweries in the state in 1966, when the firm ceased brewing due to declining sales.

The original brewery complex, erected in 1885, housed Effinger's family and a saloon in addition to beer-making facilities. Eleven years later, Effinger was one of the earliest brewers in the state to begin producing bottled beer.

In 1911 Effinger reorganized the firm as a corporation owned by family members. In 1913-1914 the brewery was remodeled and expanded, providing space for new cellars, keg washrooms, and a mechanical refrigeration system.

With the advent of Prohibition in 1920, the company began producing root beer and near-beer. In 1921 the firm successfully converted to ice cream making and sales. Ten years later, the firm sold its ice cream business to the Borden Company and began reconverting the plant for beer production, which began in 1933. The firm continued its expansion program through 1948 when a new brewery building was completed and new bottling equipment was installed.

Throughout its 81-year existence, the Effinger Brewing Company remained a family-owned and managed business. The sons and grandsons of the founder served as corporate officers and as managers of the brewery. After the death of the founder in 1945, Ferdinand Effinger, Jr., became the firm's president and brewmaster, positions he occupied until the firm went out of business. Frederick J. Effinger, a grandson of the founder, served as secretary-treasurer and director (plant manager) from 1945 to 1966.

The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetland. Slightly smaller and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, these are still large birds with impressive wingspans. They hunt in classic heron fashion, standing immobile or wading through wetlands to capture fish with a deadly jab of their yellow bill. Great Egrets were hunted nearly to extinction for their plumes in the late nineteenth century, sparking conservation movements and some of the first laws to protect birds.

I wondered if peak and peek were related words or simply homonyms. Peek comes from the old Dutch for a quick glance. Peak comes from pike, old French for the sharp end. Peep, that's a quick hidden glance. Well, I wasn't hiding my look at this magnificent scene.

When I quite looking at etymology you can find me on Twitter

Such a pretty colour!

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora

Fam: Commelinaceae

Not a true Ginger but it resembles a ginger in growth and habit. Related to spiderworts.

As I explained in the description to my "Suburban Dreams" slideshow, each of these photographs are related to the other. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/52638166831/in/datepost...

They are not random shots, but each tells us one more thing about the nature of a typical modern working class suburb. I always work in series, but this collection was most definitely planned. The twilight setting and light is all part of the creation of a mood. Is it possible to find things of beauty in the midst of the mundane and ordinary? That's more about philosophy than photography. And why I am such an odd fit for Flickr.

A bird of southern swamps, the Anhinga is known as the Water-Turkey for its swimming habits and broad tail, and also as the Snake-Bird for its habit of swimming with just its long head and neck sticking out of the water.

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel et Kate Bush

in this proud land we grew up strong

we were wanted all along

I was taught to fight, taught to win

I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems

I am a man whose dreams have all deserted

I've changed my face, I've changed my name

but no one wants you when you lose

don't give up

'cos you have friends

don't give up

you're not beaten yet

don't give up

I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around

never thought I could be affected

thought that we'd be the last to go

it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home

the place that I was born, on the lakeside

as daylight broke, I saw the earth

the trees had burned down to the ground

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up

we don't need much of anything

don't give up

'cause somewhere there's a place

where we belong

rest your head

you worry too much

it's going to be alright

when times get rough

you can fall back on us

don't give up

please don't give up

'got to walk out of here

I can't take anymore

going to stand on that bridge

keep my eyes down below

whatever may come

and whatever may go

that river's flowing

that river's flowing

moved on to another town

tried hard to settle down

for every job, so many men

so many men no-one needs

don't give up

'cause you have friends

don't give up

you're not the only one

don't give up

no reason to be ashamed

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up now

we're proud of who you are

don't give up

you know it's never been easy

don't give up

'cause I believe there's the a place

there's a place where we belong
