Not the typical shots, but Dustin came over with his Krinkov and we actually captured a rare shot. The flame burst is one of the hardest shots to get. The timing has to be perfect. After 145 shots, we only caught one fire burst. The flame burst is caused when the excess gun powder is burnt on the outside of the barrel. Thanks Dustin. It was fun.

A metal sculpture of the Wawel Dragon, designed in 1969 by Bronisław Chromy, was placed in front of the dragon's den in 1972]. The dragon has seven heads, but frequently people think that it has one head and six forelegs.
To the amusement of onlookers, it noisily breathes fire every few minutes, thanks to a natural gas nozzle installed in the sculpture's mouth.
The Wawel Dragon (Polish: Smok Wawelski), also known as the Dragon of Wawel Hill, is a famous dragon in Polish folklore. His lair was in a cave at the foot of Wawel Hill on the bank of the Vistula River. Wawel Hill is in Kraków, which was then the capital of Poland. It was defeated during the rule of Krakus, by his sons according to the earliest account; in a later work, the dragon-slaying is credited to a cobbler named Skuba.
The most popular, fairytale version of the Wawel Dragon tale takes place in Kraków during the reign of King Krakus, the city's legendary founder. Each day the evil dragon would beat a path of destruction across the countryside, killing the civilians, pillaging their homes, and devouring their livestock. In many versions of the story, the dragon especially enjoyed eating young maidens. Great warriors from near and far fought for the prize and failed. A cobbler's apprentice (named Skuba) accepted the challenge. He stuffed a lamb with sulphur and set it outside the dragon's cave. The dragon ate it and became so thirsty, it turned to the Vistula River and drank until it burst. The cobbler married the King's daughter as promised, and founded the city of Kraków.

The East Mebon (Khmer: ប្រាសាទមេបុណ្យខាងកើត) is a 10th Century temple at Angkor, Cambodia. Built during the reign of King Rajendravarman, it stands on what was an artificial island at the center of the now dry East Barayreservoir.
The East Mebon was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and honors the parents of the king. Its location reflects Khmer architects’ concern with orientation and cardinal directions. The temple was built on a north–south axis with Rajendravarman’s state temple, Pre Rup, located about 1,200 meters to the south just outside the baray. The East Mebon also lies on an east–west axis with the palace temple Phimeanakas, another creation of Rajendravarman’s reign, located about 6,800 meters due west.
Built in the general style of Pre Rup, the East Mebon was dedicated in 953 AD. It has two enclosing walls and three tiers. It includes the full array of durable Khmer construction materials: sandstone, brick, laterite and stucco. At the top is a central tower on a square platform, surrounded by four smaller towers at the platform’s corners. The towers are of brick; holes that formerly anchored stucco are visible.
The sculpture at the East Mebon is varied and exceptional, including two-meter-high free-standing stone elephants at corners of the first and second tiers. Religious scenes include the god Indra atop his three-headed elephant Airavata, and Shiva on his mount, the sacred bull Nandi. Carving on lintels is particularly elegant.
Visitors looking out from the upper level today are left to imagine the vast expanses of water that formerly surrounded the temple. Four landing stages at the base give reminder that the temple was once reached by boat.
Sometimes, volcanoes get really antsy and they like to move around. If you have ever been on a volcano posse, you know it can get kind of hairy chasing down a volcano. So, to avoid false positives, the City erected a volcano sighting wheel to verify any volcano movement. The only problem was the guy in charge of sightings tended to get a little tipsy and would forget where he was supposed to stand to sight. There have been a lot of false calls to the volcano posse!

This is an image I debated posting. A flock of Canada geese landed in the field across the road, and spent the afternoon working down the field. I took a few wide shots of the over 300 geese, then debated how to proceed when they took off as the afternoon waned. I decided to try to capture the chaos of the geese taking off with the mountain and farm in the background, rather than trying to isolate a slice of the erupting flock. I am not sure it was a great choise, as I find the image a bit too chaotic. And it was pretty hard to edit. Anyhow, will do better next time. As an aside, I was doing my normal check for sensor spots, and noticed the bottom quarter of the image was littered with spots. On closer inspection, they aren't sensor spots... Good thing I was not under the cloud of birds.
