Historic 1929 Steele Building on the courthouse square in New Cordell, Oklahoma. The Commercial style building was built by local businessman Robert Steele. He was New Cordell’s first Mayor in 1906. The Steele Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 as a contributing resource to the New Cordell Courthouse Square Historic District (NRHP District No. 98001592).
The city is officially named New Cordell, but it is commonly called "Cordell".
Not a good shot of the garden because a very dim day and a bad time of year. It's not well known because only recently (2010) opened to the public, and tucked out of sight behind Register House at the east end of Princes Street. The plants have been carefully chosen because of their importance in Scottish History, which is explained in a number of plaques throughout the garden. Also explained is that the garden layout has been inspired by the functional topography of the human brain. I'll have to wait for next year's sun and flowers before passing comment on that interesting idea :-)

Perspectives Charter Schools conducted a Chicago Ideas Week Lab introducing the schools’ A Disciplined Life® (ADL) education model to the general public, and teaching them how to apply social emotional learning (SEL) in their own lives.
Students led up to 50 participants in an ADL class on Thursday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Perspectives Rodney D. Joslin campus, 1930 S. Archer Ave. Participants engaged in rigorous discussion and self-reflection like Perspectives students do every day.
A Disciplined Life is a toolbox that teaches students how to be their best selves, cultivate healthy relationships, make informed decisions and become ethical, conscientious leaders. The curriculum was developed by Perspectives’ founders Diana Shulla-Cose, president of Perspectives, and Kim Day, the chief education officer.
“People will come away with a better understanding of social emotional learning and what students in inner-city schools are capable of,” said Rhonda Hopps, Perspectives’ chief executive officer. “We will inspire them to practice the 26 principles of A Disciplined Life to raise their level of fulfillment and civic engagement to drive positive social change.”
For one week, October 13-19, Chicago Ideas Week brings together some of the world’s most outstanding thinkers, inventors, leaders and creators to present their ideas and inspire the innovations of tomorrow. It is a platform based on sharing big ideas and making big things happen. Perspectives students make no small plans. Last June, student leaders organized a peace march down State Street on the South Side to express their hopes for a violence-free summer. More than 2,000 Perspectives students were joined by business and civic leaders, and the event was covered by some 30 media outlets.
Chicago Ideas Week Labs give people a chance to explore the best of Chicago, through exclusive access, behind-the-scenes experiences that give them a glimpse of the inner workings of businesses and institutions that are otherwise unavailable to the public.
Hopps, Shulla-Cose and Day will be in attendance during the lab.
Founded in 1997 by two public school teachers, Perspectives Charter Schools is a network of five open-enrollment public schools on the South Side, serving nearly 2,200 students. Perspectives prepares students for college and for life with its A Disciplined Life® education model that combines academic rigor with a focus on character development. Despite coming from some of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in Chicago, Perspectives students graduate from high school, enroll in college, and persist towards graduation at rates above the national average. Nurses Joined the March to ICE Field Office to Demand an End to the Forced Separation of Families and Detention of Immigrant Children — June 19, 2018.
“As nurses of El Paso who care for the border community in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert we are outraged that the U.S. government is forcefully separating children from their parents and detaining them in tents in Tornillo,” said the El Paso nurses in a recent statement by NNOC-Texas.
The current conditions in Tornillo are absolutely harmful to the health and well-being of the detained children say El Paso nurses, and they are absolutely opposed to the plan to expand this practice to Fort Bliss, a desert military base that is larger than the state of Rhode Island and inaccessible to the general public and to local services including healthcare, education and community.
NNOC-Texas is affiliated with National Nurses United (NNU), the nation’s largest and fastest growing union of registered nurses with 150,000 members nationwide.
NNOC/NNU have signed on to a letter, circulated by the Border Network for Human Rights, demanding that Attorney General Sessions, Secretary of Homeland Security Nielsen, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Azar.
• Act immediately to stop the detention and incarceration of migrant children at the border and elsewhere in the United States. Refrain from using the Tornillo Port-of-Entry and Fort Bliss for the mass incarceration of immigrant children.
• Put an immediate stop to family separation such that parents and children are reunited and allowed to pursue their claims outside of detention.
• Cease and desist from turnbacks of asylum seekers so that the fear expressed by all who seek asylum is recognized, respected, and granted due process.

Built in 1887, Edgewood, also known as the A. E. Burckhardt House, is located on Forest Avenue at the end of Burnet Avenue. The once-grand mansion has sat vacant since sometime around the turn of the millennium, and is quickly deteriorating. The photos, taken in March and June of 2019, show changes to the state of the house, with part of the decorative ornament under one of the gable ends missing from the photos taken in June, likely falling out during a major storm that passed through between the two dates. If nothing is done soon, the house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will fall, just like its fellow Hannaford-designed structures in other areas of Avondale; the Mary Wolfe House and St. Andrew Catholic Church, both demolished in 2019.
Edgewood, the A. E. Burkhardt house, was demolished in August 2022.

Altered History
Looking Back
Every day I walk to my mailbox, I pass a house with this old cash register outside, and today was the first in maybe hundreds of trips I noticed it with the camera.
This building is a Registered National Landmark.
"Vicksburg United Methodist Church, a Registered National Landmark, is a beautiful, active church located in the heart of Vicksburg and has been serving the area in the name of Christ since 1840. The building, having been preserved in the village is a statement of faith to the community and open to many groups for their use. Each beautiful and inspirational stained glass window, enjoyed by all, proclaims a message of its own. If you are searching for an enthusiastic, caring congregation, we invite you to worship with us."
A more complete history of the building can be found on this page: www.vicksburgumc.org/about-us.htm

Philadelphia 2010 Rittenhouse Square
Temple registered nurses went on strike. From the info I obtained in a handbill, they are striking because they are against Temple's demands for a "gag clause" that they claim will prevent them for speaking up for patients (advocacy), and Temple's rejection of their proposal for improvements in staffing that they say will prevent mistakes and save lives. Lastly they are rejecting Temple's proposal to double or triple what they pay in health insurance premiums. After a rally in Rittenhouse Square they marched around the park twice, each time stopping in front of Temple president Ann Weaver Hart's residence.
Temple says she has nothing to do with it.
The points of contention between the two sides include pay raises, cost of health insurance, tuition benefits for employees' children, and random drug testing.

This is a photograph from the 2nd Annual Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Monday 4th August 2014 at 08:30. The Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon also incorporated the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National Half Marathon Championships which was open to all eligible runners registered with an AAI affiliated athletics club. The race started in Dublin City center at North Wall Quay and Castleforbes Road on the Liffey. The route then went West out of the city bringing runners along the famous South Quays to Inchicore and then taking a slight northerly direction into the Phoenix Park. The race finished in the Phoenix Park with runners following over half of the course within the grounds of the famous park. Over 7,000 people took part. The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series is one of the largest running series in the world with events primarily taking place in North American Cities. However, recently the franchise has spread to Europe. One of the unique aspects of the race is that every course features live bands along the course along with cheering teams of supporters at water stations. In the Phoenix Park today there was a large entertainment area at the Finish line for competitors, families and friends to enjoy.

We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
