Jacoba refused to contribute to the Winter Help collection (supposedly taken to help poor Dutch who had very little), saying "I won't contribute to Winter Help until our queen comes back. The proceeds from Winter Help are for the Germans and the NSB members, and they're a gang of thieves, just like Adolf Hitler." Jacoba was jailed for three months for that statement. In jail, when the SS guards gave her their socks to darn, she sewed them shut, supposedly out of ignorance.

Polar Bears who refuse to leave town are put in jail as a dis-incentive for them to return. Apparently, it really works for some of them. It makes them not like people. Eventually, they are flown 40-100 miles north by helicopter, and set back down in the wild.
When commercial traders refused to stop in Tillamook in the mid-nineteenth century because of the difficult entrance to the bay, the white settlers of Tillamook County found themselves without access to the Portland and Astoria markets. Residents needed to find new means of importing goods and transporting their dairy products. In September 1854, fearing starvation because of diminishing provisions, they started building a new ship. It was a total community effort. The ship was completed on December 29, 1854, and christened “Morning Star” in the belief that the ship was the harbinger of a new day for Tillamook County. The ship made its maiden voyage on January 5, 1855. The “Morning Star” served Tillamook for a year and half until it was sold to pay off the debt of one of the owners and later sold to shipping interests in Olympia. In 1860, it was wrecked in the Straits of Juan de Fuca. In 1992, this scaled-down version of the ship replaced a replica of “Morning Star” that was completed in July 1959.
