Les anciennes bergeries, aujourd'hui utilisées comme refuge pour les randonneurs, sont blotties dans ce creux dominant Vallorcine avec une vue sur toute la chaine du Mont Blanc.
Old sheep sheds, renovated and used as a mountain hut for hikers and walkers. They are nicely located above Vallorcine with a view over the whole Mont Blanc range. Haute Savoie France

Ce jour- là, je n’ai pas cherché à me protéger du vent sauvage et du froid mordant. J’ai trouvé refuge en moi, à cet endroit où prennent forme les sensations uniques qui définissent qui nous sommes et ce que nous « voyons » du monde. Ma caméra a fait le reste. (Patrice)

These grosbeaks at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Delaware, have been keeping their distance and not allowing close photos. This bird was the exception however. It was first seen in a tree at some distance, (photo in comment 1 below), but then flew towards the camera and landed very close for feeding near the ground. During this time it turned several times and allowed the side shot shown in comment 2 below.

A flooded marsh at Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Idaho reflects the clouds when the wind stops for a few minutes.
L'ancienne ferme d'alpage est aménagée en refuge mais n'a pas beaucoup changé depuis l'enfance du propriétaire qui y venait l'été aider ses grands-parents à s'occuper des vaches...

Castle Tirol - Schloss Tirol, Meraner Land, Südtirol
Ehem. Residenzburg der Grafen von Tirol, die erste Anlage wurde im 11. Jahrhundert errichtet. Die Burg beheimatet heute das Südtiroler Landesmuseum für Kultur- und Landesgeschichte. Im Norden abwärts gelegen ist die Stadt Meran.
The former residency of the counts of Tirol, the first buildings have been erected in the 11. century. It houses nowadays the museum of history and culture of South Tirol. The city of Meran is located north of it downhill.
Was quite the moody morning I had there in the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge with the clouds and then rain that moved in. The colors at sunrise were nice pastel shades.
Composed this with the neat fencing that can be found that I assume is placed there to control the marsh grasses and growth / movement. Possible to keep out fisherman when the tide is in. But there are there in various locations across the area.
They made for some interesting compositions I think.

Rarely do I get these shots, and I didn't do so well this day with my new camera and Florida's bright morning sun.
The Blackwater River feeds into the National Refuge set aside for the eagles, osprey and many other creatures there on the eastern shore of Maryland. It was extremely windy on this sunset, and I really liked the mix of lighting across this view ... and the light on the wave patterns ... so I kept this to a hand held capture with no long exposures. Glad I did, as the 1/50 shutter on the blowing waves looks pretty cool I think.
This chickadee came at the tree from below, perching in this seemingly awkward position. Didn't seem to bother it, though! At the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

Photographer's metadata: We were driving through the Anza-Borrego Desert near Borrego Springs, California, when we passed this group of mailboxes hunkered down in the shade of a tree. As we passed it, I only caught a brief glimpse of the scene, not a sharp framed mental image. I turned my car around and headed back to see if it was worth taking a photograph. The photograph shows them in their effort to seek refuge from the relentless heat . . . my 'post-camera image management technique' has allowed me to present it as I first saw it at a glimpse. (FA)
I took refuge standing on a bigger boulder for this shot, was trying to get closer to the 3 rocks in the centre of the image, but every time i got a chance to venture out the waves came crashing back in and I got soaked up to my knees and 2 full wellies, still like this one though
