It's been 100 degrees in Portland the last two days. Talk about way too hot for me.. I can NOT handle the heat. Annie and I did a quickie photoshoot in my backyard and this is was one of the closeup shots I took of her drink :)
Ahhh, summer.

Odi, Euterpe, il dolce canto
Ch'a lo stil Amor m'impetra,
Et accorda al dolce canto
L'aureo suon della* mia cetra,
Ch'a dir quel ch'ei mi ragiona
Troppe dolce Amore mi sprona.
Di notturno a casto velo
La mia Lidia il sen copria.
Ma la luna in mezzo il cielo
Dolcemente il sen m'apria,
Ch'a mirar si bel tesoro
Lampeggiò di fiamme d'oro.
Ma si dolce ardeva il core,
Ch'ogni fiamma ed ogni dardo
In quel caro sen d'amore
Rinfrescava ogni ora un guardo,
E già m'era il cor ferito
A le piaghe un dolce invito.

Listen, Euterpe, to this sweet song,
Which Love brings out of me.
And to harmonize with the sweet song,
The golden sound of my lyre.
Because to tell this story
Love encourages me.
At night, in a chaste veil,
My Lidia covered her breast.
But the moon, in the middle of the sky
Sweetly revealed her breast to me.
As soon as I saw the treasure,
Flames of gold began to flash.
But so sweetly burned my heart
That every flame and every dart
In that dear heart of love
Refreshed my gaze continuously.
And since my heart was already hurt,
I invited these wounds sweetly.

EUTERPE was one of the nine Mousai (Muses), the goddesses of music, song and dance. Her name was derived from the Greek words eu- and terpô, meaning "giver of much delight."
She inspires the composer to create, the musician to play, the dancer to dance.

As part of LNER's ongoing maintenance scheme for their veteran InterCity 225 fleet, it was announced in June 2022 that all Class 91 locomotives and Mark 4 sets in service would be repainted at the Wabtec Rail Doncaster facility. While the majority of the fleet will receive a brand-new livery inspired by the original Swallow scheme, it was also confirmed that Nos.91110 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight', 91111 'For the Fallen' and 91119 'Bounds Green Intercity Depot 1977-2017' would retain suitably-updated versions of their existing special liveries.
The first of the legacy 91s to be so treated was 91110, which returned to passenger service on 1st August with a new base coat and revised Battle of Britain Memorial Flight vinyls. Here, it is seen at Holme Green crossing propelling the 1A13 06:56 Skipton to London King's Cross service towards Langford.
Today it is 31°C and for me there is nothing more refreshing than an ice cold glass of Lake Superior water.

Experimenting my Nikon BR-2A reversing ring on my 50mm 1.8... it's very tricky to get the focus right, but I guess it takes some practice.

In October of 2015 a crazy storm came through Death Valley National Park, causing widespread damage through flash floods. Enough water fell (a year’s worth in the course of a week) that the salt flats at Badwater flooded with a few inches of water. I didn’t make it out in time to see the lake, but the effects of a few weeks of standing water are very evident. On the left is an image taken when I was here in March of this year. This terrain is the culmination of some 4 years of salt flat tectonics as the small little mud continents expand and collide with each other forming mountains around their polygonal shapes. On the right is November 2015. The water level has dipped below the surface but you can see the water has virtually dissolved the little mountains and the salt has once again claimed the entirety of the surface with brilliant white salt crystals coating everything. I more or less return to this exact same place and snap a photo of the flats each year. A dream would be to do a multi-year time lapse of the fluctuations in the dynamic surface here, shaped by the ebb and flow of the battle between water, mud, and salt. Check out a few photos from other years here: blog.kurtlawson.com/?p=1218
