Betel chewing is a wide-spread tradition across South-East Asia. There are three main ingredients - betel nut (from the areca tree), betel leaf (a pepper vine) and slaked lime. Many countries have developed their own traditions including highly decorative equipment and containers for the leaves, lime and nuts as well as other flavourings such as tobacco, cardamom and cinnamon. This container was probably used for lime and comes from Indonesia.
Really wished I’d read the Crazy Tuesday theme before deciding to shoot my MM shot as a reflection shot!
The jade colour is from a pair of my glasses that I decided to keep in shot, I wanted to keep the mirror in shot as I usually go to great pains to hide it!
HCT!
I guess this one's a bit of a departure from the norm for me. These are replicas of artefacts held at the British Museum in London. The 'pharaoh' is actually just a resin fridge magnet (which cost me a whole £3.50), but I think it looks quite glamorous. The helmet is a 1" high pewter replica of the Anglo-Saxon helmet excavated at Sutton Hoo in 1939.
I placed the objects on a piece of black perspex on my conservatory table and took the image using natural light. Nothing glamorous about it really. :)
For this week's Crazy Tuesday group theme, Reflections and Refractions.
Yet another in my series of Once in a Blue Moon portraits. This one of Ben demonstrating the light and reality bending qualities of optics. Either that or Blue Moon Camera is the world's first upside down camera store. Anyway, I don't often shoot these in color, but I think this day I was testing a camera and only wanted a 12 exposure roll, which we only had in Fuji Superia.
I had forgotten this shot and recently saw the negative and scanned it back in. The nice thing about this project I am undertaking to create archive scans of my body of work is that I am re-discovering a lot of images I had forgotten about.
You are the light as I get,
Whichever is the source;
Be it my Sun, Star, Moon,
A fireplace or just glowworm.
I like you changing habits
In diverse ways of and feels
And take me a medium
Inspired and interacted
Through reflections and refractions.
Imprinted in mind you shall stay
For without you I have no spirits,
My chemistry goes berserk
......
"Seshuchamarty"
and the ghosts will haunt you forever
Yeah, I know! My 365... isn't just self portraits! woah. This is my little sister, she is 11, so think twice before any odd comments.
Today was really good. Pancake Thursday at Megan's and I realised two things. One, I want to be a doctor and two, I should never be a cook :D
by the way, the ghostly figure? Just a smudge on my sisters mirror. I think it looks like a ghost, anyone. I'll not it for you... :)
