This reflecting pool is in the central plaza behind the Utah State Capitol building. Most photographs I've seen of this pool capture the reflection of the capitol building itself. While these make fine photographs, a walk around the pool with an open mind and a photographer's eye reveals a rich store of potential images just waiting to be captured. This is one of them. I liked it. Your mileage may vary.
For any point of view, the lighting combinations here offer an inexhaustable supply of images. I am thankful this can be done with digital photography. If I was shooting film, I would go broke. Perhaps, one day, I will come here and shoot a picture on film just to prove it can still be done.
7 exposures, 7 stops, ISO 100, 20mm lens, HDR using Photomatix Pro 32 bit, adjustments in Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. The gray tones in this image were natural. The sky was very hazy and the interior of this plaza had not yet received sun other than through the small opening seen in the background. In short, there is very little color to work with and HDR simply brought up the detail out of the shadows.

With the Washington Monument set to reopen on Monday following the years of repairs from the earthquake damage, I thought I'd grab a long exposure capture of it and the reflecting pool this morning. The sky wasn't as colorful as I'd hoped, but when you're given lemons, make lemonade! Thanks for looking!
Here's another composition from Nelson Atkins reflection pool.

The Plaza de America, located in the Parque de María Luisa, is flanked by the Museum of Popular Arts to the north, the Archaeological Museum to the south, and the Royal Pavilion to the east. These three buildings were built by the architect Aníbal González between 1913 and 1916 for the future Ibero-American exhibition in 1929.

Revisited a picture from 2017 and three cameras ago. I wasn't originally happy with this shot when I took it and knew little about post-processing.
I decided to have another go at it.
on the wall near the reflecting pool across from Hyde Park. Their entire head/ face/ beak is so dark, it's hard to get details to show. This was my best attempt. Note the drip coming off of its long curved beak.
Zoom in to see how silvery the scales on its legs look.

The Bordeaux water mirror is the biggest water mirror in Europe. This fall, the temperatures were pleasant and the childrens whoop it up like crazy.
On the roof deck of the new National Gallery of Singapore. The white spire of St.Andrew's Cathedral can be seen on the left, the very tall "Swissotel - The Stamford" hotel by the architect I.M.Pei is in the middle while the new "South Beach" towers by Foster & Partners are on the right. The reflecting pool is also a skylight for the building below. Do enlarge for a better view (handheld, without tripod).
Canterbury Shaker Village - Meadow Pond Trail

Historic Canterbury Shaker Village is one of my favorite haunts. The Meadow Pond Trail is across the road from the village and very different from the rest of the site. It's much wilder and Meadow Pond was full of lily pads and beaver lodges. I believe it's the largest of the 4 ponds on the property.
Along the waterfront trail, I discovered this small reflecting pool. I stayed there for several minutes capturing different compositions, and soaking in the calmness of that location.
Hope you enjoy!

My first 2014 photography trip to the Teton Mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and to Grand Teton National Park was from May 15-19. The ice on many of the larger lakes were starting to melt. Jackson Lake was still half frozen.
As I made my usual rounds to check out various sites, I was driving along Shadow Mountain Road a little over a mile north of the Antelope Flats Road stop sign.
Up to that time, Jackson Hole was receiving frequent rains. Hence, I wanted to check out various shallow ponds and pools that I knew would have water and present a nice reflection of the Teton Mountains.
So I visited the Shadow Mountain Road reflecting pools and took this 4 shot pano of the first of two side by side reflecting pools. Depending on the amount of rain Jackson Hole receives in the spring, these pools might be around as late as early July ... it all depends on the rain.
This will be in my upcoming second ebook Grand Teton National Park - A Photographer's Site Shooting Guide 2 This ebook will have 60+ photos not in my first ebook which I have expanded from 80 photographic sites to 115 great photo sites around Jackson Hole.

The National World War II Memorial honors the 16 million people who served as part of the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, including more than 400,000 who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It sits on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., established April 29, 2004.
Repost. Taken at a private site in Shropshire on a hide day, where the guy had several “props” around a reflection pool. I thought it made for a funny image.
This is the third Missouri State Capitol building completed in 1917 but not dedicated until 1924. Like the Cole County Courthouse, its two predecessors were destroyed by fires in 1837 and 1911. This series of water falls and reflecting pool sits along a bluff to the north of the capitol. Beyond the bluff are railroad tracks including an Amtrak station and the south bank of the Missouri River which divides the state.
Today, the Missouri House and Senate take up proposals for stadium funding aimed at keeping the Kansas City Royals and the Chiefs, professional baseball and football respectively. Time will tell.
This is a view that has changed dramatically since I took this photo in the fall of 1991. The WWII memorial was later constructed on this location by 17th Street.

"Bosque (bohs-kay’) – Bosque is a Spanish word meaning grove. At the Oregon Garden, The Bosque is a large central plaza featuring four brick reflecting ponds and 40 planter boxes, each planted with a single Pacific Sunset Maple. The colorful foliage of the maple trees reflect in the surface of the ponds." The trees appear upside down in reflection. www.oregongarden.org
The Pink Mosque (Nasir ol Molk Mosque), built from 1876 to 1888, by the order of Mirzā Hasan Ali (Nasir ol Molk), a Qajar ruler, is one of the most beautiful of all the mosques in Iran. It is notable for its exquisite tile work.
