HARRY AUSTIN BIO:

Born in South Africa, Harry’s passion for guitar was evident at a very tender age.

He spent his youth mingling with gifted street musicians in Cape Town who have greatly influenced his path over the years to come. Harry is a versatile guitarist and a wholehearted Jazz composer.

In the late 70's, he co-founded and performed with the “Touch” band and enjoyed great national success until the mid 80's.

Following this first accomplishment, he toured and made appearances with various musicians and live bands across South Africa until he made his international debut with the “Andrew Young” band in 2002. For the next 3 years, he played with the band in numerous countries such as China, Turkey and Tunisia.

Between 2005 and 2008, he performed at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & SPA in Dubai. During 2009 & 2010, he appeared in various renowned venues throughout the United Arab Emirates namely at Yas Island’s F1 Race in Abu Dhabi, the Meydan Race Track in Dubai, New Year’s Eve at the Grosvenor House in Dubai, Raffle’s Fire & Ice Bar in Dubai and Hilton’s Paco’s Bar in Al Ain.

For 2010 & 2011, Harry released 2 albums over the net entitled “Mojaezz” & “Easylike”

"When I tour in Europe, my guitar tech, Terry Brauer and my sound man, John Ryan, work together to achieve what's right for me and my band’s sound, Chic. John suggested to Terry that I should try the Reference cable RIC01 for my Fender Hitmaker and to my surprise, I found that my guitar had gained in harmonics, attack and punch, matching my expectations for a quality cable that will always be in my setup. Thanks to you Terry, John and mostly to Reference Laboratory."

RIC-01 Reference Cables Sheet - download

RECOMMENDED FOR all electro-acoustic instruments with piezo pickup.

The making of this cable is “innovative”, and to achieve this the Reference Laboratory leverages certain fundamental elements: experience, experimentation and competence spanning more than twenty years and “symmetrical” conductor technology. By symmetrical conductor, we mean when both conductors, mass and signal are identical.

This technique eliminates any unbalance on the signal route, the results is a full range linear “rich” sound, extremely smooth, defined, warm and clear.

Furthermore the two inner conductors are made of silver-copper. This makes the this cable to bring out the best in the mid-high range to improve the frequencies typical of an acoustic instrument, its dynamics, the sound of the wood, for the maximum sonic image fidelity.

Why choose this cable instead of a generic one?

Why lose the original sound, produced by high quality acoustic instruments?

At Reference Laboratory, we believe it is fundamental to use a cable which is able to render the sound coming from your instrument, just as if it were listened to by ear.

Is it therefore acceptable to have a low quality cable in the audio chain?

The answer is surely not!

A musician tests and compares an instrument or amplifier before making his/her choice, in our opinion this should also occur when choosing cables. The same musician would never choose an amplifier which has not been specifically designed for his acoustic guitar, he/she should also make an informed cable choice. Reference Laboratory, being aware of this, has created cables for acoustic instruments, or rather for instruments that use piezo pickup.

RMC-S01 - Hi-Q Microphone Cable - Studio Series - Solid Copped Super Flex.

RECOMMENDED FOR extremely demanding studio work, where the high quality of microphones should be matched quality wise by the quality of the cables connected to the mixer. Just as in performing they should not lose a single fraction, decibel or any frequency of the sounds that are being recorded. At Reference Laboratory we know how important the cable is in the audio chain and it is unthinkable for us to compromise on a performance using expensive studio microphones or any other out-board, by using generic cables to transmit sound to the console. For this reason after intensive research studies, and consulting important international recording studios, we have developed a technology using solid wires on microphone cables. This has allowed us to lower the resistance of the conductor used (for example in relation to a ordinary conductor), because of the way it is assembled, with two conductors which have identical sections over all their length. The advantage is to have a cable with a better impedance and consequently a better signal and a more linear response. Moreover, the ideal applications for the RMCS-01 are in the recording studios but with out excluding the excellent results which can be obtained from live orchestral performances. To achieve an acceptable flexibility, despite the two solid internal conductors, we have used an external sheath made with a special mix of PVC.

CONSTRUCTION SPECS:

Inner conductor - Solid Bare Copper 2x(080) - 0,50mm2 AWG20

Insulation - FOAM PE diameter 2,30mm

Filler - Cotton

Shield 1 - Tinned Copper Braid

Shield 2 - Semiconductor Tape

Jacket - PVC Superflex diameter 6,8mm

Available colors - matte Black

Impedance - <90Ω

"We did an A/B comparison of cables from Reference Laboratory and the cables I regularly use on the field for my location recording. I was amazed with the huge difference I heard with the Reference Labs cable RMCS-01. It was clearer, better and unexplainable in human terms the difference I heard. The sound just seemed to be amazingly warmer and better - Just Perfect!"

Conduzione in rame rosso Oxygen-Free capillare (trefolo 42x 015mm – AWG 18).

RMC-S012 multi core audio cable was designed to be used at recording and mastering studios (for balanced connections) in order to achieve the widest harmonic range of the sonic image and thus the best sound quality in listening.

This multi core balanced cable (12-pair) comes out as the natural evolution of the original single-pair version, the Reference Laboratory microphone cable for Studio applications (RMC-S01) whose superior quality was certified by several audio tests and evidenced by many authoritative testimonies from worldwide notable professionals

Now you have the same quality with 12 pair stranded conductors in one cable. RMC-S012 cable let you have a complete easy studio wiring, from the control room console to the recording room, where (through the stage box) you can keep on cabling with the single-pair cables RMC-S01.

If you are an engineer involved in studio recording and mixing, your commitment is delivering the best audible result in sound recording and reproduction. Your primary goal is to preserve the original harmonics, dynamics and sound quality, and the Reference Laboratory cable RMC-S012 make your job easier and flawless, allowing you to get what we call a “in your face’ sound” (clarity and presence) without being compelled to use signal processing systems (often ineffective and destructive) for enancing/restoring dynamics and harmonics which were lost in the chain.

RIC01 - HI-Q Instrument Cable - Live Series

RECOMMENDED FOR musicians who play guitars or basses with active and/or passive pickups and don’t want to loose any of the frequencies generated by their instrument, even in a live context, where the audio signal is more often prone to have problems due to mechanical stress, dampness and any kind of interference (radiation & magnetic fields, AC power line).

Designed and produced in 1992, this cable was the first to be conceived by Reference Laboratory to meet musicians needs, in terms signal quality and reliability, it’s still an electrical and mechanical engineering landmark. Made and developed to increase flexibility without loss of quality, its internal conductor is made up of capillary wires so as not to take anything away from the electric/acoustic output, and especially devoid of shape memory, Therefore this cable provide all the fundamental assets for a perfect live usage.

As with all the Reference Laboratory guitar cables, the RIC01 has a double copper shield as well as a semiconductor PVC jacket which makes it extremely flexible and durable, also supplying excellent performance and superior rejection of hum and noise caused by sharp and sudden movements during a live concert.

CONSTRUCTION SPECS

RMC-S01 solid core microphone cable

Applications: microphone in Studio recording

In the picture it is assembled with the new Amphenol connectors (AX series Gold Pin)

AX3-MB-AU, AX3-FB-AU

Moreover, the ideal applications for the RMCS-01 are in the recording studios but without excluding the excellent results which can be obtained from live orchestral performances. To achieve an acceptable flexibility, despite the two solid internal conductors, we have used an external sheath made with a special mix of PVC.

CONSTRUCTION SPECS:

Inner conductor - Solid Bare Copper 2x(080) - 0,50 mm² AWG20

Insulation - FOAM PE diameter 2,30 mm

Filler - Cotton

Shield 1 - Tinned Copper Braid

Shield 2 - Semiconductor Tape

Jacket - PVC Superflex diameter 6,8 mm

Available colors - matte Black

Minimum Bending Radius - 10x Overall diameter

RIC-S01R - HI-Q Instrument Cable - Studio Series RED

RECOMMENDED FOR musicians who play guitars or basses with active pickups, specifically for Rock music because this cable is expressly designed to meet the impedance of that kind of pickups.

The perfect pickup-cable coupling impedance, makes the signal reflections irrelevant and produces a more linear bandwidth.

The result is a louder, “more powerful sound, particularly midrangey”. The harmonic frequencies found in a distorted sound are certainly more than those found in a “clean” sound.

It is therefore essential to have a cable which will not soften or, worse “strip away” fundamental harmonics, something which can very well occur with an “ordinary” cable.

The RIC-S01R ensures that the power and tone of your Rock guitar are transferred to the amplifier in all its sonic range. The sheath is made of a special mix to ensure maximum flexibility without compromising the electrical features.

As for all the Reference Laboratory guitar cable series, the RIC-S01R also has a double screen in copper besides a semiconductor PVC. This PVC solution is ideal for avoiding the creation of noise caused by sharp and sudden movements during a concert, typical of live performances (particularly Rock performances).

CONSTRUCTION SPECS:

Inner conductor - Solid Red Copper 0,5mm2 AWG20

Insulation - FOAM PE diameter 2,6mm

Shield 1 - PVC Semiconductor diameter 3mm

Shield 2 - Lap - Tinned Copper - full-coverage

Available colors - Glossy Red

Working Temperature - -40 +80°C

Minimum Bending Radius - 8xOverall diameter

RMLC03 - Hi-Q Microphone Cable - 2x22mmq - Lap Shielded

RECOMMENDED FOR cabling all microphones for bands who, both in live performance and during rehearsals, are looking for a cable whose flexibility is of prime importance, without compromising on quality and maintaining unaltered its electrical and mechanical features. In fact, many bands, when performing live, cannot rely on the assistance, the experience and equipment of professional audio service providers. They therefore need to rely on a cable which is quick to set up, and to pack up at the end of the concert. This is why, with the RMLC03, particular focus has been given to assembly, by using the same connectors which are typical of the Reference Laboratory’s production. This innovative project is also aimed at supplying this product with a superior reliability. The alternative is the RMLC02 model, which differs for its braid shield instead of a spiral one.

CONSTRUCTION SPECS:

Inner conductor - Red Copper 2x022mm2 AWG24

Insulation - Polyolephine diameter 1,70mm

Filler - Cotton + Non Woven Tape

Shield - Lap Tinned Copper

Jacket - PVC Supeflex diameter 6,2mm

Available colors - matte Black

Impedance - <90Ω

Working Temperature - -20 +70°C

Minimum Bending Radius - 10xOverall diameter

RICV01 - HI-Q Instrument Cable - Spiral

RECOMMENDED FOR musicians searching for a vintage look for their performance.

Today we refer to “vintage” musical instruments which were fashionable during the 60's and 70's. In those years, it was common practice to use spiral cables with guitars of that period which are still very much appreciated and played, however those cables have practically disappeared.

Reference Laboratory wanted to give a tribute to that timeless sounds, bringing back to life the typical spiral cable, by using all its experience and the latest technology.

As with all the Reference Laboratory cable series for guitars, the RICS01 has a double copper shield as well as the PVC semiconductor.

This PVC solution is ideal for avoiding the creation of noise caused by sharp and sudden movements during a concert, typical of a live performance.

Just acquire this Grado HP-2 headphone with JGSUWBR cable (used with flat pads only), one of the best and highly sought after dynamic headphones in the world, handmade by Joe Grado himself.

Had owned all top of the line Grado headphones (PS-1, RS-1, MS-Pro, GS1000, now having borrowed PS1000) at one time, this was the only Grado headphone that I had not heard before. Even though my source is a digital stream player, but the sound can be very vinyl like, warm and rich, pure joy (depends on the tube used)...Finally the quest for Grado headphones have come to the end!
