Match drawn
St. Peter’s won the toss and elected to field.
The home attack was unable to find any movement off a slow, placid pitch and the Heathfield openers scored briskly, but after six overs they lost their first wicket with the score on 32 and this brought the rate down. As the innings approached the half way stage, Heathfield were 88 for 4. The Saints’ new signing, South African Sipho Mashele, took three of the wickets. At this point, the captain, Ian Long, joined Oliver Robertshaw and as the scoring rate picked up, the visitors looked to build an impressive total. Even with the loss of the captain, the scoring continued apace and Heathfield completed their allotted overs with 248 for 5. Robershaw top scored with 95 not out. Pick of the bowlers were Mashele, with 3 for 56 and James Brooklyn, who took 2 for 57.
In response, St. Peters started disastrously, being reduced to 15 for 2 and then 47 for 5 during the 11th over. The Heathfield opening bowler, Daniel James, was able to swing the ball, negating the lack of movement off the pitch, and removed the majority of the top order batsmen; only Michael Dawse offered any resistance, scoring 37 as wickets fell at the other end. However, the lower middle order dug in. Simon Coomber and Marco Lincoln batted carefully and with support from the lower order were able to steer Saints to safety.
Simon Coomber top scored, with 38, and Marco Lincoln made 35 not out.
