The bridge was built in 1899 and was then the highest bridge in the northern countries. In 1929, the bridge was obsolete to the standard train gauge and it was covered with sand. The sand has preserved the bridge almost without damage and rust. In 2014, the old railway bridge at Gammelstrup was dug free.

An Audubon bird call made of zinc and birch. I have no recollection when this item was acquired or if it was ever used. It makes some interesting chirping sounds although it doesn't sound like any bird I've ever heard. Perhaps it works by amusing birds that gather around to observe a foolish human.

Focus stack (27 images). Shot with two off-camera strobes (Leica SF 60/Lecia SF C1 trigger). Flash A camera right (approx 30 degrees), slightly above subject, modified with MagMod MagGrid. Flash B above subject, mounted on boom, bounced off 32 inch white umbrella.

Subject size 57mm x 14.8 mm

A view looking to the south across the canyon and gorge with blue skies above at the Kneeling Camel View overlook in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. My thinking in composing this image was to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward and capture that sweeping view with the Gunnison River slowly flowing by. The canyon and cliff walls would be all around with just a portion of the blue skies in the upper part of the image.

I forget where this graveyard is located exactly, maybe near Portapique? Anyway, it was a beautiful and very interesting location. It looked like a forest grew over this graveyard in the last 100 or more years and was only recently cut, maybe by one of the members of the Durning family? The majority of the graves here are of the Durning family so I'll go with that...if anyone in the area knows please fill me in!

Recently I rediscovered this old photo of me, asking myself what I would do with it. When I saw the theme for "Smile on Saturday" : 'Blurred and beautiful", I decided this would be my first photo to add to this group. Perhaps a bit vain could you think, but it's not me I consider beautiful, I like the colours and the blur here! Hope you do too.

Thank you for taken your time to visit me, comments or faves are always much appreciated!

Rediscovered these.....

RAF Bar, The Eagle, Cambridge, 27 Jun 2022

During World War II "The Eagle" was frequented by RAF and American airmen. At some point they began using candles and petrol lighters to burn their names, squadron numbers and other miscellaneous doodles onto the ceiling. After the war, the military graffiti gradually disappeared becoming obscured by a build-up of smoke and dirt stains. Later, when the ceiling was cleaned, the graffiti was rediscovered and preserved.

Rediscovered, found again. In my imagination. This blue flower is unreal as a matter of principle. It is socially and culturally constructed. As such it is more than real and opening the door towards the unlimited, the unfinished and towards that which is beyond our constructions. If I want to hold, to possess or even to analyse it, it will withdraw and dissolve into thin air. I cannot have it. It has me. Fuji X-Pro1 plus Samyang 135/2 (ignore exif data).

We have just rediscovered an old tin of cine film made back in the 1950s and 60s, perfect timing for this challenge. I believe Kodak stopped producing this film in about 1976/7 as my father was unable to obtain any more after then. Each film would make a 3 minute recording but he would splice the developed films together to make them run for longer. Later he acquired a video camera but despite being able to hear sound with these films, the viewing of them on the tv never matched the excitement of getting the old projector and screen out then drawing the curtains to make the room as dark as possible in order to see our home movie.

This film was far harder to work with to photograph than I expected. It definitely had a mind of its own as to how it would place itself so after several attempts at arranging it artfully I gave into it and let it have its way.

I rediscovered this photo in my Flickr queue. I probably put it there 9 years ago right after I took this photo. I like the image for some reason and am not sure why I haven't posted it until now.

It is from a nearby conservation area, Kintail, where an historical building has been preserved.

This day, I wanted to see Notre-Dame again after the terrible fire that struck it on April 15, 2019.

It was with intense emotion that I rediscovered it, still just as beautiful, and seeming almost untouched from this place : you can hardly see there the major restoration work in progress on the cathedral. We are facing, on a large platform which has been installed on the forecourt. It allows you to admire this incomparable Gothic facade of the 12th century in the best conditions.

I remember those terrible images of the fire. We saw people crying in the middle of the street when they saw the spire of the cathedral collapse. In front of our TV set, we were not far from doing the same.

The damage was enormous: all the original 12th century wooden frame burned down, the magnificent spire erected by Violet le Duc in the 19th century collapsed, leaving a huge hole in the vaults of the cathedral. We were to learn later that the entire cathedral had been almost destroyed by the fire. It was a hair's breadth away. The firefighters managed to stop the fire in the framework just before it reached the 2 large towers of the facade, thus preventing the irreparable. A great thank to them.

An immense momentum then shook France and many other places on the world to save this masterpiece of the 12th century, the soul of Paris. 830 million euros were donated to restore the cathedral. I contributed myself, like many others. A huge project then began to restore the cathedral to an identical one. It has already made good progress. It should be finished in major part for the next Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris. The cathedral will then be reopened for worship, the spire restored, and a new frame from the most beautiful forests in France will be reassembled.

Work will remain to be done, but most of it will be finished.

Notre-Dame will come back to life more beautiful than ever!

Notre-Dame - Paris - France

I've been rediscovering the music of the late Medieval and the early Renaissance periods. This music may not be everyone's cup of tea; but this performance by the Orland Consort is excellent. Machaut was first a poet, a musician second. The poems of wistful love are worth reading as well. It's interesting how the sentiment has not changed much in 500 years when one listens to a song cycle like Die Dicherterliebe composed in 1840 by Robert Schumann using the poetry of Heinrich Heine.

Rediscovering my first true love of gardening.

The site was rediscovered in 1895, when a German archaeologist came upon Ashoka's Pillar, identified by its inscription. Records made by the Chinese pilgrim Fa Xian were also used in the process of identifying this religiously acclaimed site. Lumbini was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The original photo of the statue was taken in Southern Spain. Photofox Surreal Skies component was used to creat this image.

Playing around with my first rangefinder film camera, testing out the replaced light seals (seems to be tight) and Ultramax. The colors are spot on when exposed for 400 ISO.

Continuing with the rediscovered memory card from last summer. I have been using iPhoto to process this and the previous two shots. I never really bothered with iPhoto before now but it is actually quite useful for doing quick edits. I'm quite impressed with it overall.

I rediscovered the lifesize Minifigure mug in my kids DUPLO and immediately asked myself, whether it would be possible to use it in a MOC. And it actually kind of fits with the LEGO measurements! So I created this space ship. To connect the cockpit section and the thruster I used some big old balloon tyres from LEGO Technic and used the cross-axle connection of the rim to build from there.

I rediscovered the joy of in camera multiple exposure. Snap, snap, snap, snap, snap, snap, snap...done...

Rediscovered this old photo while looking through my files. This was on Christmas Day in 2018. At Ogden Point in Victoria. In the background is the Navy's oiler "Asterix."

"Sir John Franklin" is an offshore fisheries research ship and is based at Patricia Bay, near Victoria.

Rediscovered when I was hunting for something else earlier, some beach "treasure". A lot darker than some of my recent work, in fact it might be too dark :-)

this beautiful bridge was covered by a dam for 85 years, but dug free and restored in 2014.

“…the age of the canoe is not gone; it’s just different. the canoe is no longer a vehicle of trade and commerce. Instead, it has become a means of venturing back into what is left of the natural world. It’s true there isn’t much left to be discovered, but there is much to be rediscovered about the land, about the creatures who live there, and about ourselves." Bill Mason

We found this particular canoe in the shadows of tall pines along a hiking trail, where it appear to have come to the end of it's days with passersby like me, wondering where it has been.

Taking tentative steps towards rediscovering my 'creativity' which has been missing for over a year. Whatever I have produced, I have known myself that I just could not get in touch with it. So, however laughable this image is - it is a grand step for me in the right direction again.

A little encouragement is worth a great deal of empty praise.

when you go through old shit and find a gem then start feeling yaself.... Yeah i said it..... i rocked these Gems for days!

I have recently rediscovered my love of color film. And though there may not be as many types to use anymore there are still some decent films available. For me it is a 1970's feel, maybe because I was shooting it then. There is a feel from it that I can never get from digital color. I find digital color too pristine.

Rediscovering the joys of off-camera flash.

rediscovered an older lens, the Nikkor 300mm, F/4 D... while heavy & a bit cumbersome to hand-hold, it can produce nice results with the D500...
