A signalman aboard the aircraft carrier USS SARATOGA (CV-60) hauls down the national ensign to untangle the flag from a line as flight operations continue beneath him during Operation Desert Storm.
Members of a U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) boarding party depart from the guided missile destroyer USS WILLIAM V. PRATT (DDG-44) in a small boat to approach the Turkish freighter RIZE K. The team will be conducting an inspection of the vessel, the first freighter approved by the United Nations to deliver humanitarian aid to Iraq. LEDET team members are helping the Maritime Interdiction Force enforce U.N. sanctions against Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.
