recommendations from a professional photographer friend

Taking a very pleasant walk along the Hunters Bay Trail, thanks to the recommendation of our friend Daniel Gibson, we were able to see beautiful colors on the opposite shore. As you can see, the colors were so attractive and captivating that we couldn't take our eyes off them.

These beautiful houses by the bay can boast an enviable quality of life.

Northern Flicker

explored-04-16-2020

Staying at home practicing the social distancing recommendations, I have been Photographing the wildlife in my backyard so, hoping for something different to photograph other then Starlings, Blue Jays and Sparrows, this Northern Flicker showed up….what a great day!!

Thank you for all the visits faves and comments! Have a great weekend, stay safe and healthy!!

As fresh snowfall was forecasted, I loaded the 4x4 and drove up Black Forest. Within subzero temperatures I had a fine morning with thick fog in the valley, ice crystals on the trees and hot coffee in my cup. Enjoyed the absolute silence with very little wind and wildlife sounds and no other person around for hours. What a truly outstanding experience.

i knew about this place by recommendations from photographs living in Gran Canaria. I wanted very much to see it with my own eyes as they picture were offered a splendid epic view of a remote and impressive place. During my six days visit to GC i was very unlucky with the weather conditions, a mixture of hot air and the norther winds caused that entire interior was covered by a dense fog. On my last day the weather started to change and I decided to take the winding road to this viewing point with great hopes for a good captures. The experience to drive to and from this place was already a big fun: a narrow raw with many tight curves, very steep and very dark. One car could hardly pass by. The light conditions were not ideal but I am happy with the result. I spent 3 hours alone enjoying the scene as offered by the Mother Nature. Wonderful experience. This is 5 captures bracketed images, I had to use this technique due to a very high dynamic range of this scene on that evening. I was a great fun editing this image. It is very likely I will return to this place to get another chance for a better light and to correct some technical errors of this shot.

Enjoying this wonderful place for the night, before travelling further down south in Italy.

Have you ever been to Italy? Would love to get some recommendations of things to see.

Due to a strict bandwith limitation, I'll get back to everybody when I get a proper internet comnection again.

His recommendation was to send the lens back and go with a Nikon lens even if it didn’t have the reach and was heavier. He thinks that I might be happier with that even though my wallet might be a bit lighter as well.

That skunky Yellow-crown didn’t say a thing and just went back to sleep. Never trust any hear-say you hear on the bayou. Yellow-crowned Night Heron just doing some chilling on Horsepen Bayou.

BTW, I’m still debating on the Sigma, but am really not happy with the results. Tomorrow will be decision day. Wishing everyone a wonderful day, evening, morning, or whatever time of the day you are experiencing in your location.

It was a recommendation by the restaurant in the previous photo. It was like Ceviche and tasted good. It came with rice paper to be eaten like Tacos.

Phu Quoc is a renowned producer of Nuoc Mam fish source which is made from raw sardine or mackerel and salt. They are kept in tanks for months for fermentation. Nuoc Mam is fishy water squeezed from the fermented fish meat.

Nuoc Mam is used as seasoning for most of the Vietnamese foods like Namplar in Thailand and the soy source in Japan.

It is also noted that fish source shares a root with Sushi that was originally a food of fermented fish meat.

This is an appeal, but also a recommendation for you. If you hadn´t seen it, you simply "must" go there! Burning Life is the SL equivalent of Burning Man, a music and art event which annually takes place at Black Rock City, Nevada.

If you love art, if you can´t live without music, if you´re into photography (and obviously you must be if you´re on here ;-), don´t miss it! Oh, and you can meet nice robots;-)

Owner, operator, head chef, printer, line cook, you name it - of Kenoy's in Clarksdale. We heard about the restaurant from someone J had been talking to at a gas station and the recommendation was definitely worth it. Amazing burgers there.

As landscape photographers, we love and always look for color and texture in the sky. On this little scene, we had a lot of both: Fine cloud structures and a beautiful rainbow. The problem with this phenomenon is that they can hardly be predicted. This makes it hard to frame them in a good composition. Here, with the nice, blooming buttercup meadow as a foreground we were pretty lucky.

Among the recommendations that Rugendas, oner of the good European illustrators who visited us in the 19th century, are these:

"the use of a hammock, an indigenous invention, preferable to other types of bed, not only because it is lighter, easier to transport and set up, but also because in these hammocks, almost always raised several feet above the ground, the traveler is better off guaranteed against insects and other animals capable of disturbing your nocturnal rest."

Mariánská Týnice, Church of the Annunciation

When the abbot of Plasky Eugen Tyttl (1699–1738) began cooperating with Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel on the recommendation of his farmer Jindřich Snopek around 1707, the pilgrimage site in Mariánská Týnice was administered in relatively good condition. Although the new building project was completed three years later and the foundation stone of the building was laid on July 2, 1711, the construction did not begin until 1720, and the construction and decoration work lasted more than thirty years until 1751 and 1762, respectively. consecrated. The rectory was completed two years later and it was not until 1777 that the sculpture of the Annunciation was transferred to the main altar of the new church. Less than ten years later, in 1785, the monastery in Plasy, as well as the Marian pilgrimage site in Týnice managed by it, was abolished. Thus, the long-term unmaintained building fell into disrepair, which in 1920 resulted in the collapse of the dome and part of the church's vaults. Thanks to the volunteer Association for the Rescue of Mariánská Týnice, headed by architect Hanuš Zápal (1885-1954), the degradation was stopped. The whole complex was gradually (since 1996) reconstructed and subsequently in 2005 a dome was erected again above the crossing of the church. At present, the place serves as the seat of the exposition of the Museum and Gallery of the Northern Pilsen Region.

In a faraway land somewhere deep within, the water fell in a hurry and sloshed up a froth. The froth silently billowed a mist. The silent mist gathered in the eyes and squandered the spirit. The defeated spirit stood in chilling waters with a hurting body and a melancholic mind. Time pitilessly hurried past. So did many trusted people. Loneliness percolated the defeated in silence. In silence, the defeated considered resigning. Letting go must not feel any worse than feeling defeated.

But then something bubbled within. Je ne sais quoi. The defeated looked up. He looked up at a mirror of memories. The reflection in the mirror smiled and nodded. He may have been weak, but now he felt adequate. The world has ignored his existence, but now he felt connected. Grumpiness and gloom made room for self-love. Self-respect. Self-adequacy. Forgiveness followed. He felt defeated no more. Instead, he felt moored… he felt beautiful… compassionate… and he felt tender-strong. His beary beautiful spirit effused. And sloshed up a froth that silently danced with his ghosts.

PS: Guess, who was I talking about above? The untamed bear from Katmai, you, or was it I? As you ponder, let me remind you that you too have je ne sais quoi and no matter how it feels every now and then, you are always utterly beautiful! You are you and that is enough! For the coming year and always, I wish you the deepest, kindest, and tender-strongest version of yourself. Happy New Year to you and your beary beary beautiful spirit!

The St. Marys Town Hall was erected in 1891 on the former site of a two storey hotel that burned down in 1889. The building committee of the day saw the fire as an opportunity to rebuild the Town Hall as a monumental building that would stand the test of time and instil a sense of great pride in the community. The Town Council took heed of this recommendation and the building remains an iconic structure within the Town of St. Marys. The St. Marys Town Hall has operated as the offices for municipal services for well over 100 years.

Built of local limestone with dichromatic red sandstone accents from a plan created by Toronto architect George W. Gouinlock, the hall is composed of a five storey tower, a turret and a smaller body with a gable roofline which abuts both Queen and Church Streets. Characteristic of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture, the hall features round headed windows and arches, rusticated masonry and recessed windows and doorways with contrasting stonework above. Other noteworthy features include the multi arched portico surrounding the entrance on the facade and the checkerboard effect evident on the facade.

Situated on a prominent corner within the downtown area, the Town Hall's tower and roof dominate the St. Marys skyline. The close proximity of the building to the St. Marys Public Library, another heritage building constructed with similar materials, contribute significantly to the strong heritage identity of the downtown area.

A beautifully lit bridge spanning the Thames between Battersea Park and Chelsea.

HISTORY: Chelsea Bridge took advantage of the latest analytical techniques developed by American and Continental engineers over the previous 40 years and represented a major step forward in British bridge building practice. The bridge was opened on 6 May 1937 by the Prime Minister of Canada, W L Mackenzie King, as the construction work had used Douglas fir from British Columbia in Canada. As in several public buildings of the 1930s the decision was made to use only materials from the UK or Commonwealth Countries (another example is Broadcasting House, the BBC's Headquarters in Langham Place, of 1931).

The first bridge on the site was authorised by an Act of Parliament in 1846 and built in 1851-8 to complement the new Battersea Park, laid out just before the bridge's construction. The suspension bridge, by architect Thomas Page, was described at the time 'as the most beautiful of the bridges that crossed the Thames'. Tolls were initially payable but this led to public complaints that the 'government gave a park to the people but placed a toll-bar at the gate to keep them out'. The tolls were removed in 1879, when the Metropolitan Board of Works acquired ownership of the structure. The bridge was never formally named and was known as 'the Victoria' after its official opening in March 1858 by the Prince Consort and the Prince of Wales. The change of name to Chelsea Bridge coincided with further strengthening in 1880, following an earlier episode of strengthening works in 1863-4. By the 1920s its replacement was being seriously considered, but the financial crises of the period delayed action until 1935, when the bridge was demolished following the Royal Commission on Cross River Traffic recommendations of 1926.

After a great recommendation from Deb Bray and Steve Pole from the Focus Facebook group, Maui Bay Jetty (Coral Coast, Fiji)) was definitely the place to shoot on the long drive from Denaru to Pacific Harbour. I was going to a Dive with the Bull Sharks leaving from Pacific Harbour at 8am which was a 2.5 hour drive from the resort in Denaru so this stopover was great (albeit getting up at 4am!)

The sun didn't really come up over the horizon but some lovely colour before sunrise. The lovely water colour on the Coral Coast just enhanced the location.

A line of trees on the grounds of the McLean Hospital - part of the original landscape design by Frederick Law Olmsted.

From the hospital website:

From 1872 through 1874, the Trustee Committee on New Sites for the Asylum separately commissioned the now famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and a local civil engineer Joseph Curtis to conduct site surveys and to report on a suitable site for the building of a new Asylum. In 1875, the Trustees, based upon the Committee on New Sites recommendation of July 18, 1873, purchased 107 acres on Wellington Hill in Belmont from the Waverley Land Company. While Olmsted's involvement after 1875 cannot be documented, Joseph Curtis' involvement in the development of the landscape and building arrangement continued through project completion and into the next century.
