Facial recognition or Face recognition is an identification technique that uses a biometric method to identify an individual by closely observing and comparing a live capture or a digital image of that individual with the image of that individual stored in a facial database for authentication....

Harrington, Del. – On Wednesday, February 19th, Lt. Governor Matt Denn visited Lake Forest South Elementary School which was a 2013 winner of the state’s Reward and Recognition School Awards, known informally as the state’s Academic Achievement Awards.

During his visit to Lake Forest South, the Lt. Governor toured classrooms, spoke with students, teachers and administrators, and sat in on a 3rd grade PLC.

The Reward and Recognition School awards were created by legislation spearheaded by the Lt. Governor and passed by the Delaware General Assembly in 2009. Winners were selected based on 2012-13 data. Lake Forest South Elementary School is a Recognition School, meaning they were chosen for exceptional performance and/or closing the achievement gap. This year, 2 Reward and 15 Recognition schools received $50,000 each. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Denn and Department of Education Secretary Mark Murphy on October 15th, 2013.

Last night we had a farewell party with our hosts from El Hospital Regional in Cusco. About 30 of us had a wonderful evening at the restaurant, “El Sabor del Cusco” (“The Taste of Cusco) to thank our hosts and celebrate our achievements. Guests included doctors, nurses, and administrators who helped our team with obtaining operating room equipment, caring for patients on the wards, and pre-screening potential patients. Interplast relies on international partnerships like these in order to carry out our programs around the world.

Here is a photo of plastic surgeon Dr. Mario Cornejo with the director of El Hospital Regional del Cusco, Dr. Victor and team leader Kay Neal, R.N. After Kay made a beautiful speech about our partnership with Dr. Cornejo and the hospital, the director presented Interplast with a lovely plaque commemorating our visit. One thing that Kay said rang especially true: “Over the past two weeks, we have changed the lives of many children who could not otherwise afford such care, but we have also experienced a transformation in our own lives as well.”

Two arrests have been made in Manchester city centre today (3 November) following the use of Live Facial Recognition.

The two vans were deployed in Piccadilly Gardens where a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being wanted for possession of an offensive weapon.

A second male, 36, was arrested on suspicion of being wanted for criminal damage with one of his bail conditions not to enter Piccadilly Gardens.

Both men were identified and arrested after being uploaded to a watchlist before the deployment.

Four other arrests were made by officers supporting the operation with two on suspicion of possession of drugs, one for failing to appear at court and one on suspicion of a public order offence.

Two people were charged following deployments in Bolton town centre last week.

Inspector Jon Middleton said: “Today’s arrests again show the value of Live Facial Recognition and using the technology alongside traditional policing methods.

“LFR is proving to be a valuable tool in helping us identify and arrest individuals who pose a risk to our communities, allowing law-abiding people to go about their business safely.

“In Greater Manchester, it’s already supporting our officers by enabling faster, more accurate identification of wanted suspects.”

The cameras will focus on a specific area or crowd and detect faces compared to a pre-prepared watchlist with an alert issued immediately if there is a match.

The images and biometric data of those who don’t cause an alert are automatically and immediately deleted.

The vans will be back in Piccadilly Gardens on Friday, while full details on LFR can be found on our website.

One of the Leica lenses that never got the recognition it deserved. The 2 generation of the Elmar 50mm f2.8 collapsible rivals the Summicron 50 IV in image quality. It also would focus without having aperture ring rotating. Great hood too - I use that hood on a multitude of 50's as it a/screws in place and b/ does not intrude in the finder. My only problem is that it is called an Elmar - it should be an Elmarit as it is a f2.8!
