While on an after dinner drive on the back roads, we were passed by an ATV rocketing past us. I had to wait to take a picture because we couldn't see a thing.

Ahead of us was an Amish horse drawn cart which had just turned the corner out of view, before the ATV roared past. When we came up to the cart they were looking not too pleased about all the dust and noise.

We never race around on roads when on our ATV's and also wondered what could have happened if a vehicle had come the other way around the corner!

Way up by Bangor, ME, the snow was pretty heavy and the going was slow...I took advantage of the empty road to take a shot or two...don't ask whose hand(s) were on the wheel!

Yes. I shot it while driving :)

Ash Fork, Arizona.

According to this article, that's Elvis behind the wheel. Looks more like a woman to me.

Anyway, this was formerly a Texaco station (1950s), and was converted to a beauty/barber shop around 2001. That's a 60s-era DeSoto convertible on top.

Talk about pressing your luck, this desperate criminal is dodging anything that moves and cutting back and forth across traffic lanes at break neck speeds.

Good thing that Escalade hasn't quite started it's left turn yet.

While a banana yellow Lamborghini may not have been the best choice after all, the fleeing felon was sure he had a full tank when he carjacked it. Now the gauge shows less than a quarter tank, and the temperature is almost in the red.

Maybe all that curb hopping, nudging, and sidewalk scraping is finally taking it's toll.

Hopefully, he's not aware of the recent 11th Circuit Court (U.S. Court of Appeals) decision that prohibits police from engaging the driver of a fleeing vehicle while refueling during a police pursuit, as long as he or she is only obtaining gasoline. Oddly enough, it's still game on, if the bad guy attempts to purchase Slim Jims, Red Bull, Gatorade, etc. and also doesn't apply to diesel.

This is a Raphael Tuck undivided back postcard printed in Saxony and published in 1901 or 1902. The artist was Lance Thackeray the famous postcard illustrator who painted nearly 1000, mostly comic postcards. He was the founder of the London Sketch Club and at the age of forty joined the Artists Rifles at the start of the first world war. He died in 1916 after a long illness. The postcard depicts part of the “Motor Problem” as it was called then, especially in rural areas. Complaints of speeding cars causing dust clouds in summer and frightening horses and other livestock were rife. In 1903 Parliament passed the “Motor Car Act” which among other things introduced the offence of reckless driving, registration of vehicles and driving licences. It also introduced a 20mph speed limit which increased the limit from 14 mph set down in the “Locomotives on Highways Act 1896”. Before this Act the speed limit was 4 mph and you had to have a man waving a red flag in front of the vehicle as it progressed. The method of determining the speed of a vehicle by the Police was to record the time it took to travel a measured furlong, so a fairly straight stretch of road was required. This method was used in 1905 by a Sergeant 2AR from Cannon Row who tackled speeding motorists in Constitution Hill where the speed limit was 10mph. Local authorities had the power under the “Motor Car Act” to set other speed limits in order to cater for local circumstances.

The Lambo on the Lamb may have been to outrun the Baynard Police, and dodge and weave his way across the entire county, but he didn't contend with meeting a Mercedes Benz late for a PeeWee soccer game as it makes a sudden illegal U-Turn.

After the fleeing felon takes out a few passing motorists and crashes into a pole, winding up against the wall, ABLE 4 hovers overhead while his pursuers catch up.

Fire-Rescue has been notified, but that will take a few minutes, and they can't approach safely until the police arrive and clear the scene.

Not thinking too clearly, he grabbed his gun, but left the loot behind, and managed to crawl out of the wreck. With a few extra holes in his head, and shock setting in, he won't be going too far. His only hope is that the officers, now his rescuers, will get to him in time.

Family riding on a motorcycle in Ahmedabad, during International Kite Festival 2014

I saw this woman driving by today...using the steering-wheel as a rest for her phone. I don't like seeing things like this.

Black Mercedes-Benz S 55. DC license plate EF 2773 (I believe). 6/25/2013 approx 2045.

Operator was a male in his upper 30s or lower 40s, indeterminate race but lighter skin. Short black hair. No passengers.

Operator turned left on green from southbound 9th Street NW onto eastbound M Street NW, striking a pedestrian in the crosswalk on the east leg crossing with a walk signal.

The pedestrian was a woman in perhaps her 60s. She screamed loudly in advance and all the way through the collision. She was quickly helped to her feet by bystanders and appeared to be shaken but generally uninjured. Fire & Rescue were called to the scene as a precaution.

The operator remained on the scene. The victim sat in the front passenger seat to recover. Bystanders were quick to respond, including other pedestrians, two other motorists, and staff from the Convention Center. One of the motorists noted that the vehicle operator had been driving aggressively and had just cut her off prior to making the left-turn.

UPDATE: Perhaps these selfish idiots are now part of another shocking statistic!

The BMW on the left undertook me doing in excess of the 50mph limit, quickly followed by the white truck, dangerously close behind.

The truck had drawn up behind me in lane 3 and attempted to bully me out of the way by driving less than 5 yards (15 feet) off the rear of my vehicle whilst I was travelling at exactly the 50mph limit. The recommended stopping distance from 50mph is 175 feet (quote from older versions of the Highway Code), almost 12 times the distance this dangerous driver was allowing.

As the BMW passed to my left, the truck driver pulled into lane 2 and he too proceeded to illegally undertake me, whilst tail-gating the BMW. He then pulled back into lane 3 and sped off at (I would estimate) around 70mph.

Hopefully this impatient and dangerous driver was captured by the enforcement cameras.

Background information:

A section of long-term roadworks on the motorway with a 50mph speed restriction in force and monitored by average speed cameras. Due to the hard shoulder and part of lane 1 being blocked off, the three running lanes have all been narrowed, and there is only a couple of feet (c. 60cm) between vehicles travelling side-by-side.

Like myself, the majority of drivers observe the 50mph speed limit, which is in force in order to help ensure the safety of road users and workmen alike, as with vehicles travelling so close to each other there is an increased risk of collisions.

However, there are always a few (quite a few, it seems) drivers who regard the rules of the road as applying to everyone but them. These ignorant drivers travel through the restricted area in excess of the legally enforceable speed limit and in spite of the fact that their law-breaking is being measured and captured by the cameras. Do they really think that they will escape unpunished? Or are they displaying false registration plates, so they know they will not be held accountable for their inconsiderate and anti-social driving?

So I hereby present photographic identification of vehicles that passed me today as I drove along the restricted section of motorway at exactly 50mph (cruise control active). Thus, by default, each of these drivers was exceeding the legal speed limit and as such breaking the law.

Note: Images were captured using a camera fixed to the dashboard of my car and activated by way of a remote control unit attached to my steering wheel, thus allowing me to activate the camera without removing my eyes from the road ahead. The camera was configured to capture a wide field of vision, and images were cropped afterwards to centralise the relevant vehicles.

On SEB Mass Ave at 9th St, passed queued right-turning vehicles and performed an illegal right-turn against a red arrow from the left lane, nearly striking several pedestrians crossing with a Walk signal. Proceeded to run several more red signals along Massachusetts Avenue, stopping at just enough red signals that I was able to catch up each time.

I also observed the vehicle running the red at 1st St NE / E St NE (the entrance into Columbus Circle), as seen in some of the accompanying photos. I ultimately lost track of the vehicle after I exited Columbus Circle to the south.

Operator appeared to be male, I believe African American. Approximate mid to late 30s; possibly young 40s. Short black hair. No passengers.

Initially demonstrated aggressive behavior due to a construction vehicle attempting a left-turn on green. The BMW operator, two cars behind me (and three behind the truck) was impatiently pressing upon his horn. The truck turns during the clearance interval; I pulled up and held on the stop bar through the red cycle.

The BMW operator proceeded to the right side, passing the vehicle between us and standing to my right. He accelerated quickly at the start of the green. I clocked him surpassing 45 MPH on the 25 MPH roadway, nearly striking a bicyclist near Columbia St NW.

I had a little accident with my car. I was driving around shouting “Power!” when suddenly the back wheels came off. It got a bit bumpy after that but I didn’t hurt myself. But I think the car is done for. I tried to fix it, I even used the magic tool they call “hammer” but it still would not run again. I will probably have to call a mechanic to get it fixed properly, I was so getting used to driving everywhere :-)

Not condoning the practice, but took this pic at est 40-50kmph, driving with only my legs (manual) and shooting long lens thru front windscreen. The tire tracks and position of debris indicate a vehicle travelling the wrong way, jumping the curb and destroying a tree before going back to the road. Lucky it was just a small tree and no-one was on the sidewalk. Just weeks before and a short walking distance from this location, a young man was killed as a passenger in a high speed vehicle that did a similar maneuver, but unfortunately that tree was a lot bigger and the vehicle, a late model Porsche, flipped over. The 20 year old driver has been charged with criminal negligence causing death.
