Burlington Northern train 43 growls out of the siding at Chana, Illinois, after meeting train 2 on the sunny spring day of April 6, 1991. On the point is EMD GP20C No. 2003, along with sister Cat No. 2008 and an EMD GP39M. Ten BN EMD GP20s were rebuilt by Generation II Locomotives between 1988 and 1990, and were equipped with a Caterpillar 3500-series 2,000 hp engine, along with other improvements like an all new electronic control system. One obvious external difference of BN GP20C Nos. 2000-2009 was a new angular cab replacing the EMD original.
Lancaster and Chester Railroad works the interchange with Norfolk Southern in downtwn Cheser, South Carolina.
On November 9, 2016, I caught L&C Train 14 approaching West Manor Street in Lancaster which was near where I lived at the time. The issue was that I discovered my battery in my Canon 60D was dead, so I resorted to using my son's Sony DSC-F828.
L&C #2268 was leading. It was built in 1967 as Seaboard GP40 #679. CSX later sold it to FURX where it was rebuilt to GP38M-2 specifications. Gulf & Ohio Railways bought it from FURX and assigned it to the Yadkin Valley Railroad and later to the L&C.
Lancaster and Chester GP38M-2 2268 leads a short train over Hwy. 9 in East Chester, South Carolina oon March 17, 2014.
Norfolk Southern Railway Train P36 has left their train at the interchange with the Lancaster and Chester Railroad and is now waiting for the L&C to spot their cars for pick-up. NS 7016 was an EMD GP50 locomotive built in 1980 for the Southern Railway. It was rebuilt soon after this photograph was made in NS 4719, designated as a Rebuilt EMD GP33ECO.
The L&C 2273 has a slightly more complicated history. Built in December, 1971 for the Chesapeake & Ohio as the number 3791 as an EMD GP40, it later become CSX 6566. CSX sold at the Texas-Mexico who gave it it it's third number, 1173. It was later sold to FURX, a leasing company, who gave it to number it wears today and also rebuilt it to GP38-3 standards before selling it to the Gulf & Ohio Railways who assigned it to the Yadkin Valley Railroad. Finally the G&O transferred it to the L&C. It has been sold since his photograph was made in 2013.
June 13, 2013 was the first say I saw L&C 2268 and 2273 after they had been repainted. It was built in 1967 as Seaboard GP40 #679. CSX later sold it to FURX where it was rebuilt to GP38M-2 specifications. Gulf & Ohio Railways bought it from FURX and assigned it to the Yadkin Valley Railroad and later to the L&C. She came to the L&C in gray paint with yellow striping. She has since been sold by G&O.
