... and with it, new hope.

the best of Britain’s wild meadows..Meadows sing of the unfurling of spring and the bounty of late summer, reawakening the childlike sense of wonderment in each of us. To take a walk in a wild flower meadow is to experience the enchantment of nature. Knee-high native knapweeds, ox-eye daisies, buttercups poppy and cornflowers..

After a long winter's sleep, Green is reawakening and joining Blue to provide a beautiful landscape for all to enjoy. Happy Spring!

These are the best days to walk in the damp forest, reawakened from the snow. Beneath the trees are ferns and leaves dried by last autumn, and evergreen bilberry twigs.

I stand in the mist and think that I just have to trust the direction I choose.

Photographed at Family Farm

I'm thankful for my family, being in fairly good health, having exactly the career I thought I'd have (in "show biz") and that I said I wanted when I was 16yrs old, my loving (and somewhat insane) cats, my neato cars (that bring me joy), my close friends at work and in my area, Georges Claude for inventing the neon lighting tube in 1902, my reawakened interest (addiction?) to photography, for Flickr, and Joey Harrison's photostream which caused me to get an account here so I could post my first lame comment on one (out of thousands) of his great photos (blame him for me being here! (laugh)), and I'm thankful for all of you, the wonderful, nutty, exciting, thoughtful, thought-provoking, making me want to shoot better photos, crazy, funny, caring, generous and just generally great folks that it's been my pleasure to know here on Flickr, and some even in person. (Pick which applies to you, for some of you, it's ALL of them!)

My life would be a lot more bland without you all and your photos, comments and friendship.

Oh, and I'm thankful that, on a wonderful summer day while I was shooting an old neon sign (big surprise there, eh?), this beautiful monarch butterfly landed right next to me, as if giving me a gift and saying "go ahead, take my photo". He then flew off right afterward.

Thanks.

As we stood on the high point of Washington Park in Anacortes, the sun went down to our right and the moon rose to our left. The moon glowed through this large dead tree which seemed to come to life again.

ASPHODEL, THAT GREENY FLOWER

Give me time,

time.

When I was a boy

I kept a book

to which, from time

to time,

I added pressed flowers

until, after a time,

I had a good collection.

The asphodel,

forebodingly,

among them.

I bring you,

reawakened,

a memory of those flowers.

They were sweet

when I pressed them

and retained

something of their sweetness

a long time.

It is a curious odor,

a moral odor,

that brings me

near to you.

The color

was the first to go.

There had come to me

a challenge,

your dear self,

mortal as I was,

the lily’s throat

to the hummingbird !

Endless wealth,

I thought,

held out its arms to me.

A thousand topics

in an apple blossom.

The generous earth itself

gave us lief.

The whole world

became my garden ! […]

Later today will mark the official arrival of Spring and although it will be a little while until we see flowers like the one posted above blooming (at least where I live in Southern Ontario), today does mark the beginning of nature reawakening after a winter slumber.

I hope you all have a great day and the sun is shining where you are :)

I planted almost 100 bulbs of various flowers in the garden in the autumn and hardly any have survived the greedy appetites of the (horrible) grey squirrels which proliferate in the neighbourhood. All except this one which is in a particular protected space. It gives me great pleasure :-)

The Loon is a solitary bird of the wilderness that symbolizes tranquility, serenity and the reawakening of old hopes, wishes and dreams. The Loon relies on water and water is a symbol for dreams and multiple levels of consciousness, thus Loons teach us to follow our hopes, dreams and wishes.

If we fall, we don't need self-recrimination or blame or anger - we need a reawakening of our intentions and a willingness to recommit, to be able to be whole-hearted once again.

Early spring in the Foothills. Soft morning light gracing the hillsides, as vibrant wildflowers spill downwards toward the river, reaching the cool shade of the reawakening oaks, where they give way to the intensity of the lush spring grasses. Below, the white noise of the river blends with the brilliant euphony of the songbirds, anchoring me solidly in the moment--neither falling back nor leaning forward.

The heart is oftentimes asleep, buried beneath a thousand pieces of debris, a thousand distractions, but then it is reawakened and provoked to make a recognition: it exists; the heart exists; your heart exists. You have a friend; you find, on the street, a friend for life when this happens to you with him, when you find yourself in front of one who reawakens you to yourself. This is a friend—all of the rest leaves no trace.

Nature Reawakening, Spring after Spring...... The Repeated Refrains of Nature!

A Light Exists in Spring

A Light exists in Spring

At any other period –

When March is scarcely here

On Solitary Fields

That Science cannot overtake

But Human Nature feels.

There's beauty in the most common of things. Grass awaiting the coming of snow and reawakening in the spring' in the high Sierra mountains.
