Prior to this trip to Glacier I wrote a post musing about which pinhole camera I would take. I settled on my Reality So Subtle 6x12, with my reasoning being that Glacier National Park just seems so well suited for a panoramic camera and I had already been with my Reality So Subtle 6x17 on a previous trip. My reasoning proved to be sound when I found myself a couple miles out the Highline Trail and presented with this seemingly neverending (and never exhausting) vista. The Reality So Subtle 6x12 was a camera made for such places. My Hasselblad cut neat slices out of the view, but struggled to take it all in. My Reality So Subtle had no such hesitations. In fact, I worried about overusing it.

Glacier is a park of expansive vistas. It is teeming with them. A lot of them are readily accessible. A bit of hiking gets you many more. And I hear tell of some very adventurous hikes that reward you with even more of them. Should/when I get back to this place, I think there will be little doubt that I will have a panoramic camera of one type or another with me.

I think I have found a way to repeat this shape (not consistently) by setting larger first drop (S1=80), relatively short first delay(D1=50), smaller second drop (S2=20), very short second delay (D2=5), medium third drop (S3=30). With this settings, I can get this shape much easier.

(For those who does not understand what it is above, those are parameters used for my Water Drop Kit, currently on KickStarter)

The reasoning is the larger first drop will create high jet with relatively more momentum, and because of relatively short first delay, when the smaller second drop collides with the jet, it creastes a smaller splash but the jet is still going up because the second drop is small. Then when the third drop collides with the splash, liquid flows along the first splash forming a long tube. Of course, this is my guess, need to see this under my high speed camera once I build my high power light source for it.

This video shows more of it

Long tube visor delicousness along US 30 (Lancaster Avenue) at Sproul Road in Villanova, PA The angle of the intersection is the reasoning for the long tube visors.

I contain the blood of the past

And all the blood of the future

At some point you will want reconciliation

On your personal altar

My cup runneth over

With blood that has been spilled

How many more does there need to be

Until everybody has been killed?

Can a cup hold too much blood

When does it reach saturation point

Or will it keep soaking it up

Like the warriors of old all gobbled up

The dead were poured in

Hoping for resurrection to begin

Ready to fight again

The flame rising for a fleeting moment

But it is only a short glory

One part of the endless story

Fading into history

Barely glimpsed but still there

But that’s the lure

Of the promise of life everlasting

Repeating repeating

Always stopping but not really starting

Do you want to live again

False blood in your veins

Be honest be sure

Do you want to come back for more

My tears are now of blood

Running down my face

Is there any hope left for you

In this desolate place

This earth that I once called my home

Now you are all throwing stones

Any target will suffice

Especially if it is thrown with vice

Evil likes to use labels

It laughs when you mention Babel

Many voices all talking at once

Because is this not the truth of it all

Nobody is listening to those you once loved

All that is left after all these years

Is the scent of dried blood

And the screams in your ears

I debated with myself for a long time as to whether this work should be posted. But as a person who has spent her photographic life wandering around churchyards and communing with the dead, how could I ignore what is going on the world? The answer to that is of course I cannot, and as parts of the world are tearing themselves apart the questions and answers that people have become all the more urgent.

I can provide the answers that I know personally to be true, but it does not mean anybody else will believe me. I can give comfort in my images, and it is there, but sometimes comfort is not enough. Other times a recognition that war, upheaval and death has visited our world again, and the fact that it affects everybody, no matter how far you stick your head in the sand, is needed; it needs to be acknowledged.

Is religion the cause of wars? Is it better to not believe in anything? Some prefer to live this way and one can understand the reasoning in these times of terrible upheaval. But faith is not the whole story for why wars happen. That is far too easy a reason to choose for wars. Add on the reasons of territory and power and we might get nearer to the truth.

Those that stand by their faith, or choose to be ‘faithful’ do so because it defines them, or they have had an experience that has changed their life, or they just ‘know’, and their minds will not be changed. Others are raised to believe, it is endemic in their culture. There are many reasons why people believe in their faith.

But where the question of death is concerned it is a great motivator in causing anxiety about your own life and how you might meet your demise. Suddenly everything narrows down. What comes after? Does anything come after? Faith provides some with answers, others just hope those answers are right.

Death…whether we like it or not, rules our lives and how we live it. Death is the greatest mystery on this earth. Death defines who we are, because we are constantly preparing for it, even when we think we are not. In other words, how we contemplate death results in how we live our lives and communicate with our fellow human beings while we are on this earth.

Death has a lot to answer for. But we can choose how we meet it, either with dignity or chaos.

I am aware that some people will not read all of this. And depending what account you have with Flickr, it might be too long even to attempt reading it all. Multi-scrolling is a nuisance, lets be honest.

So this work will also go up on my website, where you can read it at your leisure and in a better format for free. I will put a link on here when it is up. [See Below, now up].

I would also like to point out that this image has not been put through any kind of photoshop. All I have is the iPhoto App on my computer. I like to do the bare minimum as regards editing with my images, because that was how I was trained. And I spend enough hours writing, let alone messing about with anything else. I might crop, reduce or increase exposure, or add a filter if it warrants it.

This image was cropped from the original, to reduce the foreground. The exposure was taken down about two notches and that was it.

This cup creates its own atmosphere when I take it out. It tells its own story quite happily, or with sadness or despair. Often I just feel like a bystander, allowed to be in its presence, gifted with the knowledge it is imparting.

Then I share it with you.

I have paired this work with Miserere mei, Dues, by Gregorio Allegri. Performed by the Choir of New College, Oxford. The beauty of this piece is undeniable.

I have now uploaded this work onto my website, a few reasons why; it is an important work for me personally...a strong work. It is also for this time in history. And it is so you can see it in the format closest to how I have designed it to be seen. It will be printed out and placed in my own portfolio as a finished work.

The word is “Coyote.” In the Falls, we pronounce it Ki-yote, everywhere else it is “Ki-oh-tee.” Can’t believe so many folks could be so ill informed, and the reasoning is said to in part come from a cartoon character named, Wile E Coy-oh-tee.

760 images taken from aug 8 @ 9:33pm until aug 9 @ 4:30am stacked using starstax. each image 30 second exposure, f/5.6, 1250 ISO taken with my nikon 18-200mm zoom.

i set up in my front yard facing north-east in hopes of capturing some of the perseid meteor shower. as you can see in the photo, all i managed to capture were two meteors (upper right). i guess i was a little too north facing and not enough east facing. tonight is supposed to have some clear periods, so i'll see if i can get better luck facing more easterly. it is supposed to be cloudy and rain at the shower's peak aug 12-13 (of course), so this is why i'm trying now.

i had tried the night before with my sigma 10-20mm lens (which gave me a larger view of the sky), but it kept trying to re-focus every shot it took with the interval timer even though everything was on manual. after a long time trying to resolve it i just gave up. it's strange because i've had this issue before, and yet other times it works fine. if anyone knows of a fix or reasoning for the sigma 10-20mm not working with a nikon d7000 please let me know!

♫ Meeting Ambiece ♫

Previously in Chapter 8: A Convenient Encounter

Lexington peered at the man as he sauntered across the stone floor. He wore an exquisite dark blue wool jacket and a bright powder blue silk vest that shimmered under the candle's glow. Gold filigree adorned the jacket's lapels and along with his fine leather riding boots there was no doubt he was royalty. The man wore his hair long, which was not uncommon for this part of the world and it gleamed black, like a raven's wing. By all accounts Count Pierre Léon Chastain was a handsome man, even striking. And Prince Lexington Jelani detested him.

Ordinarily it wasn't in his nature to hate someone so vehemently. His loss of control troubled him and Lexington had pondered on the matter over the past few days. He didn't trust the Count and why should he? He was a Lycan but then again Lexington had always harbored a certain amount of pity for the werewolf.

So what was it that made him so furious that his hands drew up in a fist when the Count came near?

Alas, if he were honest with himself, Lexington knew the real reason he hated this man. He could analyze it, but in truth he didn't want to face the obvious. Lexington's hatred was fueled by his jealousy. These last few days he'd watched his Mistress become more familiar with this man. Her face would light up when the Count walked into the room. She'd laugh and place her hand on his arm when he'd spin one of his ridiculous yarns. And then there were the evening walks in the gardens of the Count's home.

Watching them now, Lexington lowered his head as Tabitha greeted the Count. To keep them both from noticing any emotion in his expression, Lexington turned slightly away from the scene. The sandstone walls of The Red Castle, as it was so aptly named, crept in around him, and he thought for a moment how different this Persian influenced architecture was from that of his home at Belraak. He closed his eyes, gathering his composure but opened them again when he heard the footsteps coming toward him. Gazing into a dark corner of the room where the light from the candles had not reached, time seemed to stop for a few moments before he turned in time to face the Count.

Lexington smiled politely and nodded to his host as he took his outstretched hand. Once the pleasantries had be exchanged, they took their places around a large table where several maps had already been laid out for the meeting. Tabitha smiled over to Lexington which was his cue to begin and not being one to waste time he immediately informed his Mistress that that afternoon he'd been able to acquire a ship for the coming journey. He'd also taken the liberty of inviting the vessel's Captain to the meeting so that he might share his own insights concerning their voyage. With that, the massive doors on the dark side of the large room clanked and creaked open. Lexington turned toward the doors, motioning for them to approach and introduced their guest, "Lady Kinkade may I present the Captain of the Sealark."

Two figures walked toward them out of the shadows. The taller man was adorned in an outdated but very beautiful military styled coat. The lapels and cuffs were both covered with worn filigree that wasn't nearly as radiant as the gold on the Count's jacket. He wore a white ruffled shirt, commonly worn by fashionable seafarers and his cavalier boots clanked against the stone floor as he walked toward them. The other man, slightly shorter, wore the traditional coat and pants of a still less than modern day military officer which was perhaps less regal and flamboyant than his counterpart. As they approached, both men bowed and introduced themselves. "Good evening my lady. Captain Ambrose Townshend at your service. And this is my first mate William Swann." Tabitha curtseyed formally and introduced the Count, then without further ado the meeting began.

The crux of the conference was to discuss the route the party would take and the length either voyage. They had not been on a time table before, however Abaddon Baal had been sighted in the city of Rivne in Little Russia two days ago. No one could guess why, not even Count Chastain, however they did know that Baal's lair was in Russian Turkestan. That meant he was moving northwest, or he may have had business in Rivne. No one could know for certain, but with this news they had a possible fix on his whereabouts. It was Tabitha's fervent plan to pursue the illusive werewolf king before Baal was in a position to dictate a less than favorable confrontation. But first they had a promise to keep, and gypsy to visit. Thankfully, the wanderer's caravan was in Romania near Transylvania which would put them on a direct path to Rivne. This latest intellegence had changed things of course, and now a time schedule was much more imperative.

Lexington stated that he'd read reports and heard rumors a new canal was about to open that would take them through the Khedivate of Egypt on a direct coarse to the Mediterranean Sea. Captain Townshend agreed, and had it on good authority that, although it was not officially open, the canal was ready, and they would be allowed passage. This possible course would save them more than a couple of weeks, perhaps as much at 20 days at sea. Count Chastain however, disagreed stating that as much as he wanted to find a cure for his and his clan's affliction, as he called it, he felt strongly that the canal would not be ready for passage in time. His feeling was that the route around the Cape of Good Hope was the only clear choice because if they were turned away at the canal, it would cost them even more time at sea. With the loss of what might be several days, the gypsy woman would certainly have moved on, and they would most probably lose Baals trail for several weeks or even months.

The men continued to discuss the matter each giving sound reasoning behind their convictions. Tabitha however withdrew from the discussions taking a few minutes to herself to ponder the situation. She had always relied on and trusted Lexington's advice and guidance in times such as these. So out of that trust and confidence her decision was easy to come to. Looking back up at the party she tapped one of the calipers on the table to quiet the men.

"Gentlemen I've heard both sides of this argument and I've come to a decision. I'm quite certain sailing back around the cape along the African coast is the most assured route, however we must consider our chance to cut travel time nearly in half. Also, winter will soon be upon us. As it is already mid August, I believe we must take in consideration the snows as well as the cold in Romania by late October. And so, with your blessing Captain Townshend, and yours Mr. Swann, I propose this route. We shall sail south, back around Sri Lanka, north to the Red Sea, through this Suez Canal of yours Prince Jelani, then across the Mediterranean Sea to Greece and Port of Piraeus." Tabitha put the pointing stick down and looked at them all. Captain Townshend nodded and bowed to Tabitha signaling that he thought well of her presentation. Count Chastain held his chin in thought, then looked over at Tabitha with a polite smile and nodded. Tabitha smiled back at the men then looked over to companion, Prince Jelani before making her last formal declaration. "Friends. We have a long journey ahead of us and I have no doubt a perilous one. I realize we haven't all agreed here this evening, but to be successful I believe we must be of one accord after this night. Do I have your oath?" Each man nodded and bowed and went about shaking each other's hands.

It was time for a drink and refreshments before bed and their host Count Pierre Léon Chastain had already made preparations with his servants. He turned and made a motion toward the dark hallway where a man there stood silently and in a couple of minutes they were all being served. The conversations among them were of far off lands and differences in their cultures. They spoke of fates and how those fates had brought them together. At one point, Tabitha had laughed more than usual at one of the Counts tall tales of wonder and excitement. Glancing over at them, Lexington again found himself back in that dark place in his mind. This journey, although made shorter by this new and uncharted route, would quite possibly the longest he'd ever taken with his Mistress, and he was not looking forward to it.

Wow, it's hard to believe it's been nearly a year since I've visited this story. As much as I love it too. I'm hoping to get this one going again.

I'm so sorry this chapter is so long. I doubted anyone would read it anyway. But in case you tried I apologize for it's length and the lack of talent. I just love to write. Not everyone is good at it.

I'd like to thank some people who were instrumental in helping me with this shot. In alphabetacle order:

Sanquinolency: Book I

Recently my life has undergone some changes. Changes that I facilitated to hopefully make it better, ... fuller. Yet, even though these were changes I wanted and implemented myself, they were not without a fear that felt bigger than me. Every day and every night I lamented about them, because change has never been something I just accept without much thought. Underlying the desire or whatever valid reasoning I may have for doing something, I have an immense worry that it will have been a huge mistake. One I can't recover from or which would cause me undue grief or upset the delicate balance of what I think of my life and it will all have been at my own hand. Yet, I know that when I push through that fear there will more than likely be good things I haven't anticipated come from it.

Fear can pound you down. It can feel like there are land mines everywhere. It can make you doubt yourself in ways that aren't healthy for you. Worse, it can prevent you from doing things for yourself that you want to do and need to do, just because you you fear what lies at the other end of that decision.

Following the directives given to us by our superiors, we geared up for our hunt into the jungles. According to intel from spies off world, there was to be a gathering of those objecting to the Empire’s expansion plans in the system. Politics never seems to bore more than anything and this was sizing up to be another one of those bureaucratic nightmares. Although there are issues we troopers have with the current reasonings we were sent to Sesid, they were orders and there was still progress being done to improve the lives of citizens in areas of the galaxy, including this one, that had been forgotten by the powers of the past. Those who went unnoticed were lifted up and given purpose to help serve a cause that benefits the collective, rather than the higher tables. That being said, even those pure of heart, still have influences from those that look out for their own hind. Not that I blame them, you have to watch yourself, especially in the current climate, both physically on planet and politically. Making our way through the swampy waters & thick vegetation of these tropical forests, we came across the slight fortifications around the compound which we were targeting. Some simple charges in the wall were all that we needed to breach and move in. Within minutes, we made our way through the maze of gardens to acquire our grand prize. - Bandana Clone

One of the few creations I haven’t posted here to Flickr just yet that I’m just getting around to. This one was part of the Sesid Series that I started several months ago. Is more built for story than looks, but it’s got it where it counts.

There is a video where I talk more about the creation over on Beyond The Brick.

Honestly, I was really surprised to see that Wikipedia has an entry on these delectable puffs of yummy goodness. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it's been tagged as possibly being inaccurate. Wow, check out the reasoning:

I put up an NPOV because of the phrase "You have to put the entire puri into your mouth at one go and bite into it." I think that while this is the *traditional* way of eating pani puri it is not the only way. However, there was some disagreement, so I am looking for consensus before I change this to "Traditionally the entire puri is eaten in one bite." [Link]

Honestly? Whatever. Yummy!

metal washers (and one plastic) on white background

The reasoning behind my caption "A Romantic Harvest" is because the trees in the background are locally known as the Kissing Trees, I found it appropriate because many people come up here the night after they are married for a walk under the stars, and kiss at the kissing trees. This is a local tradition.

Know Thyself

by Alexander Pope

Know then thyself, presume not God to scan;

The proper study of mankind is Man.

Placed on this isthmus of a middle state,

A being darkly wise and rudely great:

With too much knowledge for the Sceptic side,

With too much weakness for the Stoic's pride,

He hangs between; in doubt to act or rest,

In doubt to deem himself a God or Beast,

In doubt his mind or body to prefer;

Born but to die, and reasoning but to err;

Alike in ignorance, his reason such

Whether he thinks too little or too much:

Chaos of thought and passion, all confused;

Still by himself abused, or disabused;

Created half to rise and half to fall;

Great lord of all things, yet a prey to all;

Sole judge of truth, in endless error hurled:

The glory, jest, and riddle of the world!

A classic pair! This is what we imagine when we think of “snowflakes”, right? Pseudo-symmetry and balance in the shape of a star. While these are depicted in decorations, movies and cartoons, they are just one narrow example of how snowflakes can form – and the deeper you look, the stranger things can become.

The very center of the larger snowflake is a small dark dot. Is this what “nucleated” the snowflake? No, it’s the remnants of a column-type crystal that grew plates. Snowflakes do, however, need something to start their growth – a speck of dust smaller than a grain of sand is all it takes. It could be started with airborne bacteria! The central column here is the smallest feature we can see, but it illustrates that this particular snowflake is a “split crystal”.

Split crystals form when plates grow on either side of a column, with each set of corners fighting for building blocks. Six simultaneous battles ensue, one for each point on the parallel hexagons. If one of the two points ends up growing slightly larger than its competitor, it’s game over. Whatever sticks out the farthest, grows the fastest. In this specimen, the top plate won three (top, bottom, upper left) and the bottom plate won the remaining three plates. The snowflake is stuck together by a very fragile column of ice in the center; it wouldn’t take much to break it into two pieces, and snowflakes of this design after reach the ground in fragments.

There’s also the anomaly in the lower left branch. It appears like a sheet of ice is ground on top of the branch as it leaves the center. What gives? It’s hard to be certain just by looking, but I have seen some spines on branches reach a considerable height above the branch and shape into a near-90-degree edge. This, in turn, can cause outward growth from the top, like an anvil. It’s the basis for a rare type of snowflake referred to as a “skeletal form” crystal, but we see hints of it in more common specimens. Interestingly, the same reasoning can apply to the “sheet” behind the top branch. Since this branch has (most of) its surface features opposing the camera, the sheet of ice is also growing on the opposite side of the crystal.

The smaller stellar snowflake in the upper right is a fun example of growth conditions – these snowflakes formed in the same cloud, at the same time, yet they come out differently. Broad branches tend to mean stable, lower-humidity growth, but a cloud isn’t a controlled environment. The two primary variables of temperature and humidity are always fluctuating, and the tiniest change results in unique features. Each snowflake flies its own path in nature, which is why you’ll never find two identical snowflakes in the natural world. Even lab-grown crystals from my friend Ken Libbrecht at CalTech, in their attempt to be “identical twins” still have a unique fingerprint to them.

This image was photographed using my Lumix S1R with the Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens, a combination I have used reliably for most of my snowflake imagery. Lighting is provided by a Yongnuo YN-14EX II ring flash, F/2.8, ISO 200 and 1/160 sec exposure time (this is the fastest flash sync speed of the camera). I could shoot at ISO 100, but the flash would be required to double the light output, and it wouldn’t be able to keep up with the rate of shooting. Even at ISO 200, an external battery back needs to be plugged into the flash to keep it firing for every image.

On average, I photograph 2-300 images of each snowflake gathering slices of focus handheld, and then choose an average of 40 images with different parts of the snowflake in focus to bring the entire image sharp from tip to tip. Even still, I sometimes miss a frame and there is a slight blurry area where the details of adjacent slices of focus don’t completely cover the gap. A trained eye can spot it – can you? There are two areas in this image where the details lack perfect sharpness.

Running as a four car unit rather than the usual five. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this, if any others have run as four car units, dates etc ?

For the month of December I've decided I'm going to count down my 31 best Milky Way shots of the year, each day posting a different shot counting down what I think is my best/most favorite shot of 2016. I'll try and provide the story behind the shot as well the technical details regarding how it was taken and edited.

So to start the countdown I figured I'd start with my first Milky Way shot of the year. After having spent all winter reading and learning as much as I could about tracking and editing techniques using my iOptron Skytracker mount I was excited to put it to use shooting the Milky Way. It was early March and still very cold, but I decided to head up to Rockport Reservoir to get some shooting in. The reservoir was still mostly frozen over and it was still pretty damn cold at night. That night was also the first time I had really shot airglow, which was kind of a surprise given how close to Salt Lake City I still was, I did not expect to be able to see the phenomenon given the light pollution.

Using the tracking mount (and reading the wonderful tutorials by Roger Clark) gave me ideas on how to image the sky in a way to really reduce noise, bring out details, and create a shot that represents the highest quality I think can be produced. It allows me to stop down my lens to sharpen stars, lower ISO to reduce noise, and capture enough light to bring out the most in the night sky. Of course using a tracking mount means that you take long exposures of the sky which causes the foreground to be blurred, this means learning advanced editing techniques to merge foreground and sky shots in post-processing. This has caused my post-processing to be an ever evolving methodology that has changed significantly as I've learned new techniques, new tricks, and practiced new ideas. So with this edit I've combined everything I've learned over the course of the year to maximize detail, color, and creativity while keeping noise to near zero and (hopefully) not making a wildly over-processed looking shot.

This is a panorama of 8 shots total, 4 for the sky and 4 for the foreground, taken with my Nikon D600 and Rokinon 24mm f1.4 lens. As with all my images I create using a tracking mount, all the shots were taken back to back, I also try my hardest to make all shots have the same exposure settings. In this case the sky shots were 2 minute exposures at ISO 400 and f2.8, the foreground shots were 2 minute exposures at ISO 800 and f2.8.

I shoot at a white balance setting of 5000k, this white balance is as close to accurate as one can shoot the night sky. Most people shoot at white balance settings in the 3000-4000k range which is not an accurate white balance and produces an image that is too blue. There is a back and forth about the balance between art and science for Milky Way photography among photographers, I'm unwilling to sacrifice the accuracy of a shot based upon scientific backing in this regard and I will do my absolute best to produce an image of the night sky that has the correct color balance. People are certainly free to produce an artistic shot of the night sky, color balancing it any way they choose, but among the hardcore astrophotography community you will find an agreement that shooting at a white balance setting around 5000k is the most accurate DSLR cameras can be set at to produce a natural image of the night sky. If people are curious about reading the reasoning, the actual science, behind this I highly recommend reading Roger Clark's series at www.clarkvision.com/articles/color.of.the.night.sky/

Another beautiful type of butterfly :-) I'm going to have a guess on the reasoning behind the name; it was seen fairly often when first described, it hangs around grass and it has blue wings.

This picture has been cropped.

Always thought a pet snake would be a good balance for me. They seem rather heartless, total lack of compassion, don't even remember you're the hand that fed them last, and they never, ever, fall in love ;-)

Lake Myers. Ace Campground, Nesco, New Jeresey.

Childhood memories. I will never forget. The smell, the feeling, the fun, the memories.. The camp.

My grandfather, owned a campground in Nesco, New Jersey for many years. It was called "Ace Campground", his reasoning? Because he wanted it to be the first camp in the yellow pages.. *in alphabetical order*

My whole childhood I remember going to this camp, and spending time with my grandfather. We went in the summer, we went in the winter. That was OUR campground.

When my grandfather was 90 and knowing he was going to pass on soon.. (he did at 91), he actually offered this campground to my father.. (who for some reason didn't want it.. it would have been really nice if he would have just held it for me..) but anyway, my dad said no. So my grandfather sold it to Green Acres for like $15 or something, as long as they kept it safe and unbuilt on and named the lake, Lake Myers after our family.

Since he got rid of the camp, the buildings have been demolished, (the bathhouse, the store, the water pump houses, the office, Margie's house on the hill by the stream, etc. All of the electrical wires removed, water pipes , etc. But what still remains is still beautiful.. and holds so much memories for me..

The lake with a rotted dock. The foundation to the store, bathhouse, office, all structures.. The Artesian Well, & the dirt roads around the lake (which he had made btw), the lake and the river/stream that runs thru the lake.. Where kayakers and canoers often go thru.

This place will always be near and dear to my heart.

So, since all of this happened 21-22 years ago.. I have often looked it up.. and found some silly stuff. I'm all for checking out abandoned places, haunted places, etc. & Taking photos.

But the stuff that's on the internet about this place is just plain SILLY.

They write about it being haunted.. and bringing up my grandparents.. Saying it's haunted by them.

If there was ANYTHING scary about this place, I wouldn't feel safe walking around it ALONE.. & feel like I'm in 'heaven on earth'. I'm sure to other people it may be creepy, but never to me.

I love this place.

I'm actually too young to think about it, but I have thought about it.. I'd like to be cremated and have my ashes spread here. So I never have to leave.

I miss my grandmom and poppop. Pearl & Merle (Charles) Myers.

I will always have fond memories of them and this place .. and my heart will always be here.

My PopPop called me his, "Little Debble" - like Devil with B's.

I'll always be, his little Debble.

I'm looking forward to seeing them again in the kingdom of heaven - one day, long from now.

And I hope I've made them proud.

They loved me so much and looked out for me so well..

I know for a while there I may have been a bit of a disappointment, but my PopPop showed me unconditional love up until the day he died. *He just took out his anger on my boyfriends (I was young). LOL He was an ex state trooper.. and told them he'd blow them away.. as he chased them in his walker.

But he never so much as raised his voice at me... and he told me that I could be anything..

He knew I loved to visit strange places and take pictures..

Right before he died, he sent his nurse out to buy me a book about all of the haunted and weird places to visit in NJ.. and signed it.. and wrote how much he loved me in it.. and told me to visit those places.

I've been so many places since that day, and lost so much.. I no longer have that book, but I do have those memories.. and that love in my heart.. and this photo.. and the empty campground land is still there.. I can go visit.

But, I think he'd find it hilarious,AND VERY IRONIC about how we used to discuss these abandoned/ weird/ haunted places.. and now if you research it online, you'll see that HIS CAMP happens to be one of those places, according to local skeptics. *I still find that so ironic and funny, I'm sure he thinks it's as funny as I do. Because we know, him, my grandmom, me, my dad.. our hearts will always be so alive there, even when it's all gone.. our hearts are all still there.. happy & laughing.

Deep down in my heart I always knew it. I tried my best to just tell myself it was not true. Low and behold you now have made it clear to me. Now I see all the words you have ever told me hold no value. All the times you held me in your arms saying you loved me was never true. I don't even know what to believe anymore.

Our wedding, did our vows mean anything to you? I'm guessing not because after about three days of being married you left me. I should have snapped then when you went to your "sexy latina" our vows didn't mean nothing to you. I never understood until now what it truly meant when people say love is blind. It looks completely different when you're on the outside looking in. When you see a person stay with their partner even tho time after time they stray and it's no secret in their relationship that they are not faithful. I now get it. I now see how love can blind you from all the bad even tho the pain is there you choose not to see it as the love you have for that one person overpowers every other emotion. You stay in hopes they will change. I had faith in that. Even though "Let's see if you still love me after I spend the night with with my whore!" Roared out of your mouth played over and over in my mind every time it did my heart cracked all over again. I had chosen to overlook all the bad that has ever happened. In the end I got use to your over the top tantrums. Your excuses or reasoning to sleep with other women didn't hurt in the end. It was something I got accustomed to you doing.

No one no matter how much love you give a person will change them. They only have the power to change themselves. That was the hope ive always had for you. Thank you for finally telling me this was nothing but a game to you. I hope you had a great time pretending to love me. Yall deserve each other the kettle and the pot. Doesn't really matter who's who as there both black.

Built for the final round of GOURD PARTY.

It is my great regret to inform you that my chosen weeb theme song is Patchwork Staccato (www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkIpRTq1S6A). I didn't know what to pick for something like this - I wanted something edgier so I could play it off as ironic, but the MV's scissors-and-red-thread motif matched my build too much for me to pass up. It's a little upbeat for a build this macabre, though I've been told that kind of contrast might make me look smart and sophisticated. Luckily, the lyrics have just the right amount of wistfulness to not be COMPLETELY out of place for this guy. Maybe it's what he listens to while he dissects his victims to keep himself distracted.

Theme: Horror.

Sabotages

Creative Liberties: Opponent names + writes description of your MOC (within reason).

Battle Scars: Build must visibly incorporate at least 5 broken, damaged, poorly painted, or otherwise marred pieces.

The Uncanny Valley: Build must visibly incorporate at least 1 Star Wars CCBS head.

A New New Low: Include a weeb (touhou preferred) theme song for your build (must provide reasoning in min. 100-word short answer).

The Purist Nightmare: Build must incorporate substantial non-LEGO elements.

Whoops!: Stress test video required.

The Ol’ Switcheroo: Switch 2 parts of your build and keep them that way (switched torso and head).

A few months ago a bowl of Jelly Beans mysteriously appeared in our lounge. For some reason my lovely wife decided we needed one, and far be it from me to question her reasoning, so it remains. It appears to be a magical bowl as whenever it empties (not sure how that could be;) it magically refills itself!!

Yes, I am on a bit of a pano bender at the moment, doing my best to break the Flickr grid so to speak.

Pano might just be my favorite format, even though I don't do much of it seemingly. If I was really forced to list my favorite formats the 6x12 or 6x17 would be near the top as would 6x7 (is there a more beautiful rectangle?) and then probably 6x6. My reasoning may be a bit odd, but I like pano so much because I am a big fan of peripheral vision. I mean, how nifty an evolution is peripheral vision. And I am fascinated by the things you see out of the corners of your eyes, but then when you turn to look fully at them, they change in appearance. Not only does the panoramic format fit normal vision + peripheral better but it takes those things at the edges and allows you to look directly at them while keeping what is directly in front of you still visible as well (not that this image is a terribly great example of that concept, but you get the idea perhaps).

But the panoramic format is not the easiest format to employ. It can be tough to find room for these elongated rectangles to fit neatly into the world. And despite the fact that it only takes four or six exposures to fill up a roll of film, these cameras tend to be my slowest moving, sometimes taking a month or more to finish a roll of film in them. I pick and choose pretty carefully.

Anyway, this is Peyto Lake in the Canadian Rockies. It is a lake of incredible and unusual color. I was reading an article on-line this morning about the most vividly colored landscapes of the world, and while I did not disagree with the lack of mention of some of the lakes of the Canadian Rockies I was nonetheless reminded of these breath-taking landscapes.

Let me present to you another new bird from our trip to Holla Bend NWR, the Dickcissel. Arguably the most uniquely named bird I have ever entered. I did a double-take when the merlin app provided me with the details of the bird. They were everywhere in the park, singing loudly from the top of every bush. After a few minutes of listening to them, you will understand the reasoning behind the name. They have this unique song that sounds a lot like “dick-dick-see-see-see.”

They have an excellent tolerance for humans, and I could get pretty close to them. I even had time to switch my camera into video and shoot short clips of the birds singing. Almost 80% of my images at the refuge were of this guy.

I think it is pretty understandable when you have been somewhere many times over to get to thinking that there aren't any more photos to be found. I am certainly guilty of this sometimes. Paradoxically, I find the more familiar you become with a location the easier and more difficult it becomes to photograph it. On the one hand, greater familiarity allows for a more nuanced take, for more complex and understanding photography to happen, you explore corners of the subject that escaped initial passes. On the other hand, it is easy to think, "seen it ten times, seen it all" or some such line of reasoning. Of course, what ultimately happens is it is never the same place that you end up revisiting. The time changes, the light changes, the weather changes, the graffiti changes, the passerby change, the buildings change, the cracks in the sidewalk change. There are so many variables at play that any subsequent visit sees more that has changed than has remained the same since your last trip. But these are all external factors. There are a ton of internal elements within you that are constantly in flux. Your mood changes, your temperament, your perspective, your level of interest and patience, your willingness to pause, or crouch down on your knees. It is easy, and understandable, to not be inclined to revisit a location because you think you have already seen it all, but it is that very idea which arguably needs to change the most.

I had to go to Edinburgh for a meeting today and thought I'd spend some time at the christmas market but it was pretty cold. My day started off badly because I decided on a whim to carry a load of raw data with me to save postage and it weighed a tonne, then I decided against a taxi reasoning that it was only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop, only then I found that all the bus stops have changed because of the tram building roadworks so I walked almost the length of Princes Steer before realising this was stupid and walked all the way back and another 10 minutes the other way until I found a bus stop I could use so I was just a bit late for my meeting and my back is seriously unimpressed with me!.

Similarly on the way back I thought I would try the big woolworths to see if they stocked the poster frames that the Stirling shop doesn't only to give up when I couldn't find a Woolies any where!! By then I was pretty annoyed and very cold and not at all in the winter festival spirit *bah humbug* ;)

All I See is You

I want to be your fragrant musk,

I want to be that soft breeze that gently touches your soul,

I want to be that fire, which enflames your heart,

I want to bathe in the ocean of your passions,

And feel the caresses of the waves of your love,

I eat, I drink, I sleep you,

These words resonate in me,

“Blessed be thou forever”,

God above- only knows what I desire,

I am sinking -yes I am sinking

Into that labyrinth of love.

I am now a captive of your spell,

My reasoning is blocked,

My sanity stolen,

My normal life seems so out of reach,

You surround me by your powerful aroma of musk,

You so far away across the ocean,

Yet that asian perfume so powerful,

Draws me to you,

My heart is trapped by your love,

And when the shades of twilight close the day,

All I see is you! ! ! -you! ! ! -you! ! ! .

In Argento's death he left a skeleton of communication networks, contacts, resources, weapons, even several stock piles of old Soviet era gear still in its packaging. In this skeleton we found Doctor Henry Amir. Better known as 'Prince of Death'.

He locked himself away in his personal research facility after being written off by the Iraq Assistive Services for dark biological research. There he experimented for days on end developing a chemcial weapon he dubbed; 'mustard posion'

The way he explainned it, essentially he reconfigured mustard gas, bolting on several other deadly viruses via use of a genetic 3D Printer. Suffice to say we now have a fighting edge on our enemies.

Either way got some really rad stuff that will certainly work its way into future scenes and the UIC. Enjoy!

The absolute morality that a religious person might profess would include what, stoning people for adultery, death for apostasy, punishment for breaking the Sabbath. These are all things which are religiously based absolute moralities. I don’t think I want an absolute morality. I think I want a morality that is thought out, reasoned, argued, discussed and based upon, I’d almost say, intelligent design [pun intended]. Can we not design our society, which has the sort of morality, the sort of society that we want to live in – if you actually look at the moralities that are accepted among modern people, among 21st century people, we don’t believe in slavery anymore. We believe in equality of women. We believe in being gentle. We believe in being kind to animals. These are all things which are entirely recent. They have very little basis in Biblical or Quranic scripture. They are things that have developed over historical time through a consensus of reasoning, of sober discussion, argument, legal theory, political and moral philosophy. These do not come from religion. To the extent that you can find the good bits in religious scriptures, you have to cherry pick. You search your way though the Bible or the Quran and you find the occasional verse that is an acceptable profession of morality and you say, ‘Look at that. That’s religion,’ and you leave out all the horrible bits and you say, ‘Oh, we don’t believe that anymore. We’ve grown out of that.’ Well, of course we’ve grown out it. We’ve grown out of it because of secular moral philosophy and rational discussion.

Same woman but perceived very differently

The contrast between Alpha and Beta perception is profound, representing a divide in the very essence of human experience.

The Alpha's perspective is rooted in 'a meticulous analysis of facts' and an unwavering commitment to objective truth. Their world is a complex tapestry woven from empirical evidence, anchored by the rigors of logic and reasoning.

On the other hand, the Beta perceives the world through the lens of sensory experience and the vivid landscape of dreams. They embrace intuition and imagination, finding truth in 'what they see, hear, and feel', and allowing the heart and soul to reign supreme.

The fundamental differences between these two modes of perception have far-reaching implications for how we interact with and understand the world. The Alpha seeks to uncover hidden truths through a quest for knowledge and understanding, while the Beta embarks on an adventure of the senses, exploring the beauty and mystery of the world around them.

The chances of them being deceived are less than Beta because they don't deceive themselves.

Most Beta didn't believe even you keep telling the truths about yourself to them, it's because they love to believe their feelings more than the facts. "

Hellifield, 20/06/22

A surprise and little-known about shunt today at Hellifield involved moving the redundant Royal Mail stock from the sidings at Hellifield where they have resided for around the last 12 years into the shed. The supposed purpose of this move is to make way for a timber loading pad on the site where the Ex Royal Mail stock has sat.

I don't often accompany Flickr uploads with lengthy accompanying text, but this is a move that I am very lucky to have caught and that the reasoning behind it will be of interest to others.

Actually I think before we grew into "reasoning beings", (the thing that makes us unique), we only craved need. As infants without reasoning abilities, hard to know if we felt love or just need. Closeness or love instinctively means safety, and that was all we "needed" before reason made us self-conscious, aware, or the word bandied around lately, we became "woke".

I think we are more than chunks of meat with firing neurons, the ability to "reason" about our place in the universe makes each of us special among all life forms. Our uniqueness gives me reason to suspect none of this is just a random quirk of nature. Was there nothingness before awareness, and will there be nothingness after? I don't think so, otherwise what's the point? Too many things have had to happen over time beyond our comprehension to be just luck or chance. We are part of something special. The natural man is a beast, cruel beyond anything else in nature. We have thousands of years of history to look back on to see the truth of that. Right now the world of man (and woman of course) is at a time of peace and prosperity never know before. We're at a precipice, do we continue to lift humanity to even greater heights, or revert to our bloody, enslaved past? Did God roll the dice on mankind, and was everything for nothing. We have free agency and reason, are we up to the task?

What a ramble, sorry for getting carried away. Just wanted to post a picture. ;>)

The giant,gravity-defying platform,is one of the largest in the world, large enough to park four A380 Jumbo Jets.It also houses lush gardens,top-notch restaurants and an exclusive,infinity-edge swimming pool with a legendary view. The 150-metre pool, the world’s largest elevated body of water outdoors, has been designed with a vanishing edge.It is as if there is nothing between the swimmer and the skyscrapers in front.

After experiencing "Heaven" on SkyPark, you can descend to "Earth" where a world of shopping, dining and entertainment attractions awaits you at the rest of the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.

The complex resort, which opened in 2010,includes a 2,561-room hotel, a huge convention-exhibition centre, the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands Mall,a museum, two large theatres, restaurants, two floating Crystal Pavilions,a skating rink, and the world's largest Atrium Casino.

To phone or not to phone

I am no fan of phone photography, but I have to accept it’s the camera that is always with me and in that light, it’s the best camera to have. I am amazed at the silly things that many people write about ordinary folks that use a cell phone to take pictures. They are accused of killing photography, of having no photographic skills, of not being photographers at all. So what, why is it so unbearable for some illuminati to see picture taking all of the time? I wonder if they had a special training to eat, to digest, something that makes them so snobbish as to scorn of all things photographic that don’t conform to their reasoning?

I've visited this scene so often, it keeps dragging me back to the Lake District at least once every year as I"m obsessed with getting the perfect conditions, but will need to visit again!

I arrived at 4.30am expecting piece and tranquility, but picked the worst morning of the year for that. When I began walking through Hassness Wood I shuddered in horror at the scene in front of my eyes. All I could see were loads of mobile homes, camper vans, 4x4s, cars and tents erected in the field alongside the shoreline and in the field (next to Hassness Wood). For anyone from outside the UK, wild camping in England is illegal, but one rule of law amongst wild campers is to arrive at dusk and depart at dawn. Anyway I walked on to my location determined to not let it spoil the experience thinking it was after all 4.45am, so everyone will be sound asleep.

At 4.55am the tranquility was turned completely upside down when a helicopter appeared and decided to fly up and down Buttermere for the next hour. This awoke everyone from their tents and mobile homes, who came out to see what was going on. The whole of Buttermere was more akin to an FBI crime scene - at 5am on a Monday morning!

The helicopter must have been filming as it had a massive camera on the front but it didn't disappear till well over an hour later. Over the other side of the lake people were further compounding the loud noise by riding quad bikes up and down the lake shore path. Inside my head I was seething as it's such an effort to reach this location as it's about 350 miles from my home and I get crowds of people, a helicopter and quad bikes at 5am!!!

Part of the reasoning for visiting Buttermere is also for peace and tranquility. I hung around for 2 hours in hope for the lake to become mirror like and couldn't wait to get out of the place after taking this photograph.

I later discovered all the tents and motor homes parked by the lake (behind where this shot was taken) is a once per year festival called the "Buttermere Bash" where people from any walks of life pay a fee so they can camp for 5 days and park up lakeside to have a festival (like a mini Glastonbury).

For anyone visiting Buttermere for photography, the best time of year is probably autumn as the light is less harsh and you can't beat the autumnal colours. Just remember the sun doesn't appear over the high surrounding fells till at least one hour after sunrise time.

I am not comfortable posting a selfie. I suffer from selfie-anxiety, but I am trying to step out of my comfort zone.

According to an article called “There’s A Scientific Reason for Why You Look Weird In Selfies” in Time magazine, the reasoning for the discomfort is as follows: “We are used to identifying with our faces as they would appear in a mirror, but when we take a selfie, the camera captures our faces as strangers would see us from head on rather than we would see ourselves in a reflection. Emotionally unprepared to see our unsymmetrical faces tilting in a slightly different way, we sometimes approach selfies with confusion and disdain.”

last winter

i have no problem with the whole no comment thing but saying your reasoning for it is because "the pictures are too private" is horrible. You are putting them publicizing them...

i never used the term "private." if a picture was too private then, yes, i agree that it would be rather counter-intuitive to upload it to a website for anyone to see. i said personal. i upload those "personal" pictures to share them with others, or because they comfort me to have among my other pictures for whatever reason, and the purpose of sharing should not be for an expectation of reciprocation.

i would like for you to reply to this. i am not trying to be argumentative, i would just like for you to understand.
