A trio of SD40's pulling one of the a.m. northbounds through St. Augustine yesterday morning was a real throwback to the old FEC.

66789 British Rail 1948-1997 approaches Ely North Jn., working 6E86 0815 Middleton Towers - Monk Bretton loaded sand. [Pole, 4/6 sections (~5.4m)]
This was running about ten minutes late, having had to wait at Downham Market for a northbound passenger train which had left Cambridge almost quarter of an hour late (having started there instead of King's Cross, due to an issue with the train crew, according to Realtime Trains). It was now approaching a red signal, and had to wait for several minutes for a path onto Ely West Curve, but it did not need to wait there and was on time again by Manea.
Today was forecast to be sunny (although some forecasts said cloudy in the morning with the cloud clearing during the afternoon, while others said sunny in the morning with high cloud building in the afternoon - which is what actually happened). I was disappointed to find this was a 66 rather than a 69 (69005 was at March, having failed a few days earlier, while 69012 was at Peterborough but on its way to Doncaster - and it hitched a lift north on 6E85), but at least it was a celebrity, and one I think I'd not photographed on the sand. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of particular interest around locally today, and this was probably the most interesting.

After a day spent in the high country where winter still maintained its grip, on Tuesday we found ourselves in the lower foothills where spring is definitely starting to assert its influence. The rolling hills are greening up nicely and the scraggly oaks are sporting a soft green coat of fresh leaves.
If the truth be told, this is really the land I love the most-- a shaggy oak woodland with large rock outcroppings littering the landscape. If it weren't so damn hot in the summer I'd be trying to convince Marg to make the move. Those pesky rattlesnakes are definitely another consideration. This is their domain and I really don't want to find out how Kenzie the pup will react to an angry coiled snake in realtime. Still, it sure is pretty, isn't it?

I finally managed to record something I've been wanting for a long time to do. To film the aurorae and to show the very quick variations that can be seen "live". Timelapses don't do it justice

Shown on Realtime Trains as a 'Sprinter' DMU, I wasn't expecting the 2C34 14:33 Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness service to be a class 37 diagram on a Saturday, also being out of touch with routine services on the Cumbrian Coast line these days, but decided to wait for it anyway, given the stunning light after the 'Cumbrian Coast Express' had past in half sunlight. As some kind of compensation, 37401 'Mary Queen of Scots' made an appearance and is seen on the rear of the four-coach formation slowing for the Seascale station stop on 28th January 2017, just as the sun is setting on the horizon out to sea and walkers are enjoying the best part of the day.

We are happy to be part of the last MOM round in 2016, starting on the 20th of December.
The MCX Watch comes with 10 Metals, Watch Faces, Pointers, Numbers (3 zones) and Leathers (2 zones). It has daylight saving, realtime and hover text option.
Realtime fog is currently possible with rainy weather.

Occasionally the realtime displays in the 'county' area of greater Nottingham get mixed up and a service that doesn't serve the stop is shown. That was the case here in Chilwell, with the Woodland Grove stop
- only served by the TrentBarton indigo - claiming an NCT red line 44 to the city was on the way!
Coincidentally, the letters "Ti" on one side, where it shows the time at the bottom, have not displayed for some time, so it simply says "me is 16:25" (or whatever time it actually is).
The end result is a bus stop display that has absolutely no idea what it's on about.

Realtime trains flags this as 0001 Doncaster Decoy to Eastleigh. Perhaps the lack of a consist accounted for the 32 minute-early passage!
Taken with a Nikon Coolpix P950. Despite the moon over 60 degrees above the horizon, atmospheric turbulence was quite high.
On Boxing Day evening it snowed heavily for a couple of hours and the following day the 27th December 2014 was quite sunny and I was able to get out for an hour or so between the Christmas holiday festivities. However with it being so close to Christmas I had assumed that there would be no freight about and I was also being lazy in not checking Realtime Trains. I had just packed away and was walking back to the car when Barton Lane AHB crossing sequence commenced and I spotted an approaching Immingham – Ratcliffe Power Station coal train. I was completely in the wrong position for a “traditional” front three quarter shot however I noticed a potential going away shot across the snow covered landscape with a couple of people out for a walk providing a focal point, so I quickly unpacked the camera and managed to fire off a couple of shots. I have converted the resulting image into black and white as I think it works better than the colour version.
Taken at the height of brightness and color. The brilliance was awe inspiring. I uploaded this video to help better show the unique nature of this rainbow.
This is a fine example of a rare twinned of the primary rainbow (most dominate at the center).

Nikon d7000 was set to movie mode at 30 fps (Real-Time). Lighting was tricky as night was falling. I still was successful in capturing many discrete bolts from this 20-minute video.

Based on this formula:

The trampoline was moving at least 81 MPH during the first second that it was visible. The furthest row of plants is 120 feet from the edge of my house. The trampoline traveled at least another 60 feet before hitting the ground 1.6 seconds from first visibility in the clip.
My next door neighbor who cleaned up the mess (landed on his property), thought that the trampoline weighed about 100 pounds.
