I took this picture on my way to Ladakh. At the altitude of 4,290m the life is extremely hard, as you can clearly see by the face of this 2 year old boy (Tenzing). In summers the sun is very harsh there which leaves the local people with lots of sunburn, and the winter is extremely cold (down to -35 C) so the peole have to move down in the valleys. The hands you see in the picture and not boys dad as one can imagine it's his mom's. This is life there.
and what a highly contrasting life two kids have... Makes me very sad... :(

So, as a 51 year old I thought I'd cut my running down from 4-5 times a week to twice a week and take up kickboxing in its place to keep my upper body strong. I purchased a freestanding man size punch bag on a stand and of course I had to have pink boxing gloves. I now spend 4 mornings a week kickboxing and I'm feeling fabulous after two weeks of this new sport. I do weights most days after my run but needed something different, I was born to run in the words of 'Springstein' but, I needed something tougher and more challenging especially with all the garden work I do.
Sadly I have had a few strange moments out running lately or walking Daisy. As a women this has made me feel uncomfortable and scared. I know I would be able to out run a bad person but probably not defend myself. I can now get stronger and learn a bit of self defence when I'm out running in lonely situations.
Funny old world sometimes.
Sadly Dog and Puppy theft is like a pandemic itself here in England, I only walk Daisy with another friend and her dogs or with my boys but, now I have two beauties to walk I need to know I can take care of them if I'm against a situation.
Here's to women's safety, staying strong and living a healthy life.

Went to see Hafsa today.....to her grave
to remind myself of the reality, the reality of all of our lives.
I know the time is short, i told her to keep her promise, the promise that is written in the book of Allah.
The promise which states that, on the day of Judgment she will come and find me and take me to paradise. Because she is my unborn baby, she will want to meet me and want me to be with her. What a great promise Allah has made, I cannot be more thankful.

The Thought
Pretty simple - when flowers are blossoming all around it's all that we want to do. Spend time with family and friends and party as much as we can - Happy spring once more!

Misuse of the Word Friends
I have really been chewing on the word "friend" for a while now. Honestly, I have no idea why. Yet, I feel we Misuse of the Word Friends at an alarming rate. Maybe I have been thinking on this because this has just been a hard month. My Lady passed on the 1st and Donna passed on the 15th and I miss them. Maybe the Lord is speaking to me on this subject.

- School
- College
- Church
- Work
- Fairweather
- Fake
- Social Media
- For Now
- True Blue
That's a lot of different types of friends you will have over your lifetime. I can say, "Oh, my friend Jane, from elementary school just did this and this" **according to social media. We all know that the goal in life is to get as many "friends" as humanly possible on any and every social media platform.
First Friend
I fondly remember meeting my first friend at Homemaker's. My mom went and Julie and I would sit in the floor and take our shoes off. We remained friends throughout all our school days. I went to her house and spent the night a lot. Honestly, I don't really remember her coming to my house but she did come to my Smurf's birthday party and for a sleepover one year.
Overtime, we grew apart, as most people do. We know little to nothing about each other in our adult lives. Yet, I still hold her very dear to my heart. I know if I ran into her, we would quickly chat the night away and catch each other up on our lives.

The Thought:
We see trees shed leaves somewhere around october every year - they stay like that till end February; when spring makes them bloom again and our lives are filled with colour, joy and gleefulness.
The same doesn't hold true, however, with the human race. Beauty - be it physical or within the soul, never has a second chance.
We don't get that youthful look once we get old - and most humans dont get their innocence back once they step into, and start experiencing the corrupt world outside.

The Shot:
Taken on the PPA Spring Photowalk in the rose and jasmine garden Islamabad. It was hard to resist the flowers despite the lack of any macro equipment I had. All these shots are taken with either of the 14-42 or the 40-150mm I had at that time.

having a baby is one of the happiest times in most peoples lives. you wait 9 long months to see the person you have grown and loved. you give birth- which is an emotional and physical experience like no other- and then you begin the life you envisioned in your head. You're exhausted and working to your maximum capacity... but the little thing in your arms allows you to go on. and one day, when they smile at you; when you watch them accomplish a milestone; when they say I love you... you understand that the level of hell you've been through is worth every single, solitary moment. At least that is how I see it; and how so many parents I know see it.
But what if you don't get that baby to take home? what if, instead, you lose what you've worked for and loved? What if what you get to go home with is a blanket and a box? Memories of what could have been; what will not be for this baby; an empty space at home where the baby should have been. I love, love, love the people I have taken care of who have lost their babies. It never happens to the asshole people who have no business having babies (trust me, this isn't harsh. some people should be excluded. i will not list them for you, b/c you don't want to know they're out there reproducing very nicely.) It is always the most lovely people. it is heartbreaking. I always personally walk my loss families to their cars. Because leaving that hospital- the place where your baby remains- with just a blanket is (i imagine) a task so difficult that I marvel in the strength of people. I will look for M's mom and dad in a couple years from now. I told them that.... I'll be looking for your name to come up on this board. And when that day arrives, I will run into your room and I will do cartwheels for the next baby you have- the one that goes home in your arms, instead of just your heart.

Photography And Post Processing - Me.
So after searching around town i bumped into this guy near the Bullring in Birmingham (UK) who i actually felt really sorry for as he had been standing in some of the rain showers that Friday morning. The weather was just typical British weather as mentioned in some of the other photographs from this series which will hopefully be a on - going thing. Back to the image/photograph, this guy mentioned to me that i was his first customer and the fact he had sold none. So i gave in and got a copy of "The Big Issue" magazine for two pounds so i kindly told him to keep the change. I asked if i could take a few photographs of him but i had to react quite quickly as he told me he was quite paranoid of the camera lens. I think it made me realise the true consequences and the reality of what poor people have to go through daily. I also feel it is a personal shame people just walk straight past these people when i actually found it interesting to talk to this guy. He did tell me his name but it has totally slipped my mind.
For this shot i think the black and white works well helping to add more to the rough texture on the man's face. The only thing i could wish for now is a better lens so i could have got a more close up portrait. I may be getting a new lens later this year hopefully around September or October, two lenses would be nice and maybe including a macro lens of my own where i could see beyond the human eye would be wonderful. I have also blurred the background slightly like a few of the other photographs in this same set to make my subject stand out. My overall conclusion is that I'm quite happy with this portrait as i had to rush it and the result i got was not too bad. Improvements can be made though and i welcome constructive criticism from all flickr members.

andreas came to visit for the weekend and brought snacks but the amount of beard eating his face made him sad.
When I attended a Photojournalism Training, we had a photo walk in the harbors of Calbayog City, or locally known as "Pantalan". Since I started taking photos of children, I searched the whole area looking for the perfect subject. I met three jolly kids, eating ice candy on one hand, on the other a Styrofoam filled with fishes. When I asked them if I could take a photo, they quickly set aside the fishes and strut a pose. When I asked them what would they do to their earnings, the boy in the photo replied "Pambalon sa eskelahan" (I will use it for my lunch money in school). Despite the hardships that they are probably facing, they still had the time to have a little fun. Children would always be children..
