The last several mornings have been extremely difficult for me, often involving intense emotional and somatic flashbacks that literally terrorize and drain the life out of me. Today, after several sunny days, I woke up to a dark and cloudy day. While still trying to make myself get out of bed I saw a little extra light coming through the window for a moment and captured it in my current surroundings while I could hear it raining outside. Then the extra sunshine disappeared and darkness returned. Like my personal experiences of darkness and light things are always fluctuating. I love to capture and remember the light so I can make an effort to try to carry some of the light into the darkness.

Morning market in Zagreb, Croatia.
I love to go to the market place when I travel abroad.
I think this is the good way to feel the real life of the local people.
Raven Rock State Park #4
A trail view of the old Fish Traps area.
Raven Rock State Park was established in 1969 in Lillington, North Carolina in the United States. It covers over 4,800 acres of hiking, bike, and bridle trails, river access, and camping cabins!
The park is famous for a huge rock formation off of the Cape Fear River that is 150 feet high and stretches a mile down river. It was a landmark for river travel since early times. It was named Raven Rock in the 1800's after many ravens were seen roosting on rock ledges.
The park also has a horizontal waterfall named Lanier Falls, remains of a river ferry, the Fish Traps, and other cool rock formations!

A few mornings ago I was struggling and having a difficult time. After I managed to push myself to get out of bed I noticed a piece of pink fabric lying on the floor that was cut in the shape of what looked like a jagged heart (some of our children enjoy sewing and making creations from fabric) and a little while later I got my camera and took some “kids were here” pictures of it before picking up the fabric scrap. This little moment of noticing this “kids were here” evidence and capturing what I saw was meaningful and helpful for me.

A beautiful wildflower bouquet my 10 year old daughter brought home after spending some time in my grandparent’s timber (back in April) in an old canning jar from my grandparent’s basement.
There are about 30,000 Himba people living in Namibia. I could not find a right word to describe my feelings when I stepped into their “houses” and interacted with the Himba kids. For me, we seem living in two totally different worlds.
Two Himba boys, one at the wooden pole to the left and one at the shadow world to the right, were listening to their mother telling a story.
