I’d love to write something beautiful and meaningful to complement this image and though this photo speaks volumes and shares an encouraging story with me, I’m not really able to write any words to do it justice. So I will try to let this image speak for itself.
I had been struggling a lot with a physical health condition which I had a procedure for and ended up having some unexpected health problems after the procedure. All of this was interrelated with the effects of trauma I’ve experienced and activated and intensified the overwhelming, disturbing, deeply troubling effects of trauma. It was incredibly challenging due to the physical and emotional symptoms and I managed to spend a few minutes outside just under 2 weeks after the procedure. I was so surprised and encouraged to see this refreshing sight on the porch steps. I could relate to the darkness hanging so strongly overhead and within—I’d been experiencing a lot of this. And the heart I saw in the light was a beautiful reminder of God’s love for me, that He sees me, and is with me in these incredibly intense and difficult moments that feel like too much for me to survive.

The bananas on the right look to be the perfect ripeness for eating (in my opinion—different people like different levels of ripeness when it comes to bananas). The bananas on the left appear too ripe for eating plain (again, my opinion) but they are excellent for baking or making smoothies. Both bunches of bananas are different in which ways they’re best enjoyed. When I compare my lack of capacity to achieve a lot of great things with someone in different circumstances who has the capability to do things I’m not able to it’s easy for me to fall into deep shame and guilt. I need to continually remind myself God created each of us unique and we have different experiences that shape us therefore it’s not always helpful to compare myself to others. It gives me the freedom to be who God created me to be with unique gifts and abilities and focus on growing in the ways He desires for me—which I’m still working on and probably will be for as long as I’m alive.

My first attempt at developing film at home. For me it was an overwhelming process and I’m thankful I gave it a try. There is so much satisfaction and enjoyment for me to be able to accomplish this despite my fears and most of my days being about survival without having the capacity for much “extra” stuff. Being able to see the final image is so amazing after this whole process. It turned out much better than I expected. I’m still learning.

Still trying to bring avatars into RL photographs. I have no idea why, or where this is all going even. I used the photoshop plugin at the link above to create the foggy feeling. It is a free plugin, however they ask you to make a donation - which I most certainly did. A big one!

My daughter put some of her beautiful artwork in our window and it was such a breathtaking sight to me. The beauty of the handmade artwork, the colors, and the sunset light all combined in a way that ignited a reminder of what an inspiration my children are to me and my love and care for them. Their unique character, determination, humor, energy, special interests and abilities are a blessing to me. And they are a big reason why I continue to push myself to try to keep fighting for life when I don’t have the strength to keep fighting. Then I fight for them especially as I know my intense struggles affect my children, too. And while I feel all I do is cause them more pain and problems, I strive to somehow be an encouraging presence for my children.

Kneeling in the grass to get the shot, I looked down and found dandelion shadows on my jeans. I am thankful I was present and aware enough to notice and capture this moment. Seeing this image reminds me of this moment.
