I really love Harbie's soft paws! We've never had to trim the nails of any of our dogs - maybe because most of the walking is on hard ground. Here he is relaxing on the sofa.

To be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s happening around us.
Chemically and emotionally too reactive, structurally too unstable and frequently corrosive to remain a free and self-sufficient element.
Japan has been a major center for studio glass since the 1970's. Ikuta Niyoko is one of its most successful exponents. Her hallmark method of making involves the use of thin sheets of plate glass and ultraviolet-reactive adhesive. She builds up fluidly rhythmic forms in which each sheet of glass is shifted by a few degrees relative to the one before.

Today we met Juanita the dog trainer, from an organisation recommended by the rescue centre we got Harbie from. They go down the route of positive training, as although it might take longer than stricter old school training, it has better, longer lasting effects. Similar to the ideas Sapphire gave us a few months ago, plenty of tiny good quality treats are needed, regularly use of the word "yes" immediately before giving him a reward. She will email my 'homework' to me, but it will involve a lot of "look at me!"s, which we try to do now. Good management and patience is required and I'll see her for a follow up walk in a couple of weeks time. She has a reactive dog herself, so understands what it's like.
This is another point Juanita made (for any of you who also have reactive dogs and explains a lot):
It can take upto 72 hours for our dogs levels of stress hormones to drop back down to normal levels after a stressful event, so even if something stressful happened yesterday that’s still going to be filling the stress bucket, making it more likely to overflow again with something that might normally seem insignificant. For example, your dog may be worried about strange dogs approaching them - while a lot of the time they can pass a dog on a walk fairly comfortably, there may be times when they’re much more reactive. This is often because your dog already has a build up of stress and this additional event is the one that’s causing their stress bucket to overflow. We’ve all had those days where one thing after another has gone wrong, and often it’s something really insignificant that causes us to completely over-react - the same is true for our dogs.
If your dog is displaying signs of anxiety like the behaviours listed above, the best way to help them in that moment is to take them out of the situation. Once they’ve reached that level of stress, they’re not in a state to learn effectively so at this point managing the situation is more important than attempting any training.

The 'Dog Father' and presenter and trainer on 'Dogs Behaving Very Badly' compares dealing with reactive dogs as you would milk pans - if you catch the milk before it reaches the top, you can control the situation, but once the milk boils over, it's too late. It's the same with Harbie - if we foresee the problem and try and praise and reward him as soon as we see a potential hazard, eg a dog across the street, he can be ok, but if we're too slow to spot one and react, his barking can be difficult to stop. The general advice so far is to avoid stressful incidences and to not cross the threshold.
In this photo, Harbie is in his favourite sleep position, totally relaxed and causing no problem!!

Church-based counseling is not consigned to the kind of finger-tapping approach that simply waits for the counselee to “come around.” Christ’s agenda for His people is much broader than that. Though much biblical counseling is reactive, we are not mainly to be responders but pursuers, like Jesus. (Robert Jones)

Harbie's been a bit poorly this week. He was fine on Tuesday (and quite reactive a couple of times when we were out) but Wednesday morning he didn't eat his breakfast and wanted to sleep most of the day. JJ and I took him out once, but he wasn't interested in his treats, so we were keen not to bump into anything that could make him bark as the rewards had lost their special powers! With Christmas so close I thought I'd better try and get him sorted out so made an appointment with the vet - she agreed to see him today.
Although Harbie seemed a bit off colour this morning he perked up as the day went on, but we decided to keep the appointment anyway, mentioning on the phone he is very reactive to other dogs. They said that was fine, they were used to it! Unfortunately there was another dog in the vet's when JJ and I arrived and Harbie had one of his most reactive barking sessions! The vet saw what he was like and sympathised, as she could see what a challenge it was for me.
She suggested getting some CBD oil (you can't buy it for dogs in the UK but you can buy it in human form, so we might give it a go) and also prescribed Xanax. She wasn't keen on training by 'mamby-pamby' positive reinforcement (I got the feeling she's 'old school', be more tough on them, etc) but despite the set backs, I'd much rather try and get Harbie to behave better with rewards than by telling him off all the time (not that he listens when he's barking anyway). She also said it would be possible to have him rehomed and not to feel bad, but he's Tim's best mate! We have to keep trying.
Alter Ego: Thermite
Name: Jack Notorious
Allegiance: Villain
Powers: None
Weapons:
* Thermite Suit - Can store the reactants for thermite which is a reactive substance which when ignited let's off a molten explosion. The molten thermite burns at 2000°C. Not even Liquid Nitrogen can extinguish it and that is colder than the North Pole in winter. The thermite spreads and ignites its surroundings and can burn through metal due to it being hotter than lava.
* The suit expels the reactants and ignites them when exiting the palms of the suit causing thermite to be produced via projection.
* This suit also stores energy which prevents damage and injury to the wearer, this energy can later be used to form thermal shields which melts metals to a certain degree.
* Suit has built in wings, because why not?
Key Weakness: If his suit gets electrocuted it badly damages it, making it become inoperable for a short period of time.
Origin:
Jack was always a devious character, his obsession with thermite bordered on the psychotic after he witnessed the effects of it firsthand during his time as an engineer for TITAN INDUSTRIES. This peculiar interest ended up with him making his own and testing it on various items in a scrapyard but he wasn't alone, the villain "Flamiac" was there too. At first Jack was afraid but when Flamiac asked him about if he found any decent pyrotechnics he actually found himself conversing with him like a regular person would. Eventually he worked up the courage to ask him about why he was a villain and Flamiac told him of his days as a vigilante and how he was badly beaten by the hero, Hope, making people believe he was a proper baddie. He explained that along the way he sort of became one and Jack genuinely felt bad for the guy. The two bonded for the whole day and Flamiac appreciated Jack's engineering skills. The two met up time and time again and Jack stole tech from his work so they could continue building a suit for himself that could produce Thermite and with the addition of thermal shields (Flamiac's idea) Jack felt unstoppable. He immediately started using the suit to bombard larger items like cars, reducing them to puddles. However, Jack wanted something different he wanted to kill someone with thermite, a random civilian, much to Flamiac's objections. Flamiac then took it upon himself to stop Jack (now going by the alias, Thermite) and battled against him but after his defeat the hero, "Firefight" showed up. The presence of this hero gave a distraction so the wounded Flamiac could escape and later Thermite was beat, later managing to flee using his wings.
Thermite now is still at large and in hiding, due to Flamiac revealing his identity to where Jack worked, TITAN INDUSTRIES and also told A.N.G.E.L. of his psychotic tendencies.

The 2S95 designed by Proryv Avto was built on the 2S90 universal chassis. It is a highly sophisticated vehicle combining state of the art technology.
Its outstanding mobility is a result from the hydropneumatic suspension combined with the hybrid-electric drive. The latter also saves weight and cost as it doesn't require a complex transmission like other tanks.
To be effective on today's always changing battlefield a fighting vehicle must be able to respond to anything. With this in mind, the 2S95 boasts a huge variety in weapons. Starting from the lightest is the 8mm light machinegun paired to the commander's sight. The next on the list is the 23mm chaingun with multipurpose ammunition. On the right side is a unique weapon, 2 Metal Storm modules capable of covering a large area with shrapnels in no time. These can reload by going vertical. Both of these weapons are modular and can be changed to other weapons.
The most powerful weapon on the vehicle is the 2K80FM 125mm smoothbore electro-thermal chemical gun with missile launching capability. It also fires a new APFSDS round and is capable of penetrating 1,200 mm of RHA equivalent at a distance of 2,000 meters. The turret stores 22 ready rounds for it and an extra 20 round is stored in the back where regular tanks have their engine.
What was saved in weight with the turret could be used for better overall protection with ERA covering everything. This coupled with insanely high frontal slopes and thick turret armor provides good passive protection. However, that is not the first line of defense. The Krakatau Active Protection System provides a 360 degrees of protection from any projectiles with speeds up to 2000m/s. It has several milimeter-wavelength radars for detection and 4 reloadable vertical launchers placed on the back of the turret.
Since the commander has limited view he needs to rely on the sensors and he definitely can. During field tests the system successfully spotted and tracked hostile units, determined their level of danger to the tank and selected a weapon accordingly. If the commander thought differently of the situation he could change the suggested weapon in no time.
It will be avalaible for sale as early as 2017.

Walking a reactive dog is like driving a car - you are constantly looking out for hazards ahead and when you approach a corner you slow down so you can prepare for what might happen when you meet something. You need to take charge of every situation (even though it can be very challenging at times!)
