So I got myself an early birthday present by picking up the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS. I quickly learned something. When I go out and shoot with the lens on the Right, I get "Hi there! Its a great day for taking pictures today isn't it?". When I go out to shoot with the lens on the Left I get, "Excuse me... do you have a permit? What are you here to shoot?" The latter is very annoying. But, it wont dull my excitement of a new lens! :)

The daisy follows soft the sun,

And when his golden walk is done,

Sits shyly at his feet.

He, waking, finds the flower near.

"Wherefore, marauder, art thou here?"

"Because, sir, love is sweet!"

We are the flower, Thou the sun!

Forgive us, if as days decline,

We nearer steal to Thee, --

Enamoured of the parting west,

The peace, the flight, the amethyst,

Night's possibility!

The Black Rat Snake made its way through the woods as i tried to keep up with it, without being too intrusive. The snake went toward the shed we were working on and in order to move it away, my husband grabbed at its tail. The snake turned and postured like this. They are not harmful to humans. He was just irritated with my hubby...I didn't blame him. My hubby irritates me at times, too! 😂😂

Reconstruction of the fortress

From the beginning of the 1970s, people started digging the canals again, forming the ramparts and reconstructing the buildings. All this in the style of the past, largely with the help of old maps and drawings. Naturally, several adjustments were made to make the fortress livable. Contemporary requirements were fitted into the character of the past. For example, the former storage places under the walls are now garages for the residents of the fortress. The work was finished in 1992. In 2001, two more new buildings were completed. A soldiers barracks and the former coach house. The buildings are used as hotel accommodation. After many years of work, the Bourtange fortress looks almost as it did in the year 1742, except for the 'Backhuys' (second wing of' s Lands Huys).

Action / Reaction responds to the transport of a small nuclear reactor to Hill Air Force Base in Utah in February 2026. Though moved without fuel, its presence signals future activation and long term environmental risk. The title invokes Newton’s third law, suggesting that technological expansion inevitably produces consequence. Mechanical elements imply readiness, a system energized and waiting. The work asks viewers to consider the invisible footprint of nuclear infrastructure, including potential accidents, contamination, and ecological burden. Once introduced into a community, such systems alter local soil, water, and perception in ways that may prove irreversible.

In my old way of thinking, a photo like this would never have been taken. It was too dark to shoot; shadows would plug up; it would be too dim to hand hold the camera. The scene had too much backlighting. And the composition was too jammed up with the grave markers on the sides causing uneven framing. And in that mindset, I wouldn't even have brought out the camera, and therefore I would not even have bothered to come here. Would have probably remained at home in a warm house and not troubled myself walking a mile in the cold. I often think of the chain reaction initiated by negative thought; how just one decision to remain inactive ]can quickly snowball. I've learned to discard that way of thinking and remarkably have discovered that the opposite is also true. Make just one decision to act and opportunities seem to appear out of nowhere. Such was the case this evening. I noticed great lighting out off my window the other evening. The low sun angle was shining orange light on nearby buildings with a dramatic backdrop of dark clouds. Without hesitation, I grabbed the camera and headed outside, not even sure of a destination but simply intent on letting the universe guide me. I headed first for the buildings that I had noticed from my window, but the sun faded before my eyes. So I drifted west in the direction of the sunset. All of my old concerns mentioned above still applied (too this, too that) but in my new way of thinking none of that mattered. My interest now is photos with soul and I no longer care so much about shadow detail, composition issues and backlighting. Those considerations are important, don't get me wrong, but they are now secondary. Visceral, first and foremost. Letting go of the technical constraints was game-changer for me.

A botanist said the curling of the seed heads is a reaction to the change of weather and the plant’s ability to protect the seeds. Obviously, this plant is having two different reactions, but then again, it could be two different plants all together.
