I did not take this picture (wish I had) it was taken by one of the people I work with who has a learning disability. He bought his new camera in to the drop in I started in Aberystwyth and he asked me to show him how to download his pictures onto the computer. When I saw this I was just amazed. Helped him to crop and straighten the horizon one little bit, otherwise this is his own work. We are now talking about starting a camera club for members with a learning disability and I am so excited to see what they all have to produce. He would love to have some nice comments from all over the world so I told him that I would post it onto flickr:)))

Wednesday 20 Feb - just met Raymond for a coffee and told him about your comments and that they came from all over the place, he is really thrilled.
I've been raiding the hard drives whilst my camera is being fixed. Here's a portrait I took in Brisbane earlier this year.

this gentleman looks strikingly similar to the next-door neighbor i had as a child. i bought him some dinner and a coke and he laughed! oh, how he laughed. he said he was so thankful.
"i'm lesley."
"they call me elvis, but my name's raymond."
he proceeded to tell me that he drank one too many and ended up here. he's in a detox program and the doctor said that if he drank any more, it could kill him.
after i asked to take a photograph of him, he fixed his hair, stared at me for a few frames, and then said:
"i'm going to stay on the right path, shave this beard, and get back to being human again."
(he is human. he has the most penetrating eyes and he has the desire to better his life. perhaps more human than so many people.)

28 august 2009: i saw him again, a quarter mile from where we first met. he was wearing a coat and pants, his beard was thicker and a guitar was sitting up against a tree next to him.
Sitting up in a gum tree, which they eat the leaves of. Seen on Raymond Island which is a very short ferry trip from Paynesville on the south coast of Australia.
