A big little stand of saplings is growing through the bleachers at the abandoned Superfund waste site ballpark.

This is the least-overgrown part of the bleachers at the abandoned ballpark, probably because it's sitting on concrete. But it seems like decades of decomposing leaves and rotting wood are creating a habitat that support plant life.

Looking down from the bleachers at the old Raybestos Memorial Field, a Superfund site awaiting cleanup.

It's a pretty neat post-apocalyptic landscape, except that there are people's homes right up the hill and the steady hum of the interstate highway right down the hill.

The brake manufacturer that left such a mess and so many cases of cancer is long gone, its factory demolished and replaced by a shopping center on the other side of the highway.

Walkway between the dugout and the spectator seating at the old Raybestos Memorial Field in Stratford, Connecticut, long abandoned due to soil contamination and long awaiting cleanup.

Seven days after I shot this, someone apparently set fire to two structures here, a former concession stand and a maintenance building. Another photographer told me he found fresh, sturdy fencing around the whole site later in 2017.

Rotted seats behind home plate at the old Raybestos Memorial Field in Stratford, Connecticut.

The storied ballfield, once home to some of the winningest women’s softball teams of the 20th century, has been abandoned for decades because of heavy contamination from asbestos and other hazardous waste left there by the Raymark Company.

Someone is squatting on home plate at the old ballpark built on a toxic waste dump. Or had been, before winter set in. It looked like he hadn't been there in a while when I took this picture.

That's a dugout to the right of his tent, It had flooded and frozen solid, though oddly enough the other dugout was dry.
