A Corvus corax sits near the west side of the bridge over Pelican Creek east of Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

Like cockroaches, Ravens and Crows are survivors. If a holocaust comes, I would expect ravens and cockroaches to be the last survivors. They can eat anything and they work together and give them a couple thousand years, they will probably have talons. Can you imagine Ravens with talons......they would be the only birds left.

This Common Raven was perched in a tree and giving me looks. There were a bunch of raven's, which in a group are called an "Unkindness of Ravens." Doesn't that speak volumes to the character of this very smart bird?

I reached out my hand, England's rivers turned and flowed the other way...

I reached out my hand, my enemies's blood stopt in their veins...

I reached out my hand; thought and memory flew out of my enemies' heads like a flock of starlings;

My enemies crumpled like empty sacks.

I came to them out of mists and rain;

I came to them in dreams at midnight;

I came to them in a flock of ravens that filled a northern sky at dawn;

When they thought themselves safe I came to them in a cry that broke the silence of a winter wood...

The raven is famous for being the imposing, all-black bird that guards the Tower of London. .

For centuries, the Tower of London has been home to ravens whose mere presence is believed to bring good luck and ward off disaster.

Wild birds live in forests, and upland and coastal areas in the north and west of the UK

bonbon  noise hair

Large, glossy-black bird with a wedge-shaped tail. Larger than a crow with a longer, thicker bill. Distinctive shape in flight, with rather long, swept-back wings and long tail. Note smoother, steadier wingbeats compared with faster, choppier wingbeats of crows. Extensive range throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Found in a wide variety of habitats, including desert, coniferous forest, coastlines, sagebrush, tundra, and grasslands. Often solitary or in pairs, but can gather in small groups. Typical call is a loud, guttural croak, but makes an astonishing variety of other strange noises. eBird

Raven in the rain #1

Which of these 2 images do you prefer ? Does the sapling add anything or does it take away from main subject which is raven snuggling up in a cold rainy day?Thanks for any input.

J'ai vu ce matin une rue dans le sommeil

J'ai perdu tous mes reperes temporels

This is Sculpture 62 by the artist Ayad Alaqaragholli, from Iraq.

The artist says: "Ravens appear in myth and scripture worldwide, even as the first bird mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, where they symbolise divine care and grace. And the raven , of-course, was a pivotal character in Edgar Allan Poe's mysterious poem 'The Raven' (1845). The chair represents the place of human dwelling, a universal place of where life is lived."

Here at Bondi, the raven is accompanied by Miguel from Brazil.

Quite the entertainer with little fear of humans. This raven brandishes a twig and plays with it for awhile while I watched just a few feet away.

Sharp intellect and beak. Thoughtful and vocal (only when necessary). Little Raven (Corvus mellori).

Raven Crag is such a popular beauty spot, hopefully it will remain so for a long time to come.. although it narrowly avoided disaster earlier this year when thoughtless campers lit a fire on the crag overlooking Thirlmere. Luckily it was dealt with in time by the fire service before too many trees were burnt.

We don't get too many ravens in the area I live in, mostly crows. This one didn't look like the usual crow so I grabbed my trusty sidekick the Nikon P1000 which I use a lot as a telescope and then I'm stuck with that as my camera (in the moment). Anyway, I thought this raven was beautiful, the way he moved, preened and reflected the light. Raven.

The clock struck midnight

And through my sleeping

I heard a tapping at my door

I looked but nothing

Lay in the darkness

And so I turned inside once more

To my amazement

There stood a raven

Whose shadow hung above my door

Then through the silence

It spoke the one word

That I shall hear for evermore

Nevermore

Thus quoth the raven, nevermore

And still the raven remains in my room

No matter how much I implore

No words can soothe him

No prayer remove him

And I must hear for evermore

Quoth the raven, nevermore

Thus quoth the raven, nevermore

Quoth the raven, nevermore

Thus quoth the raven, nevermore

Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore, never

Nevermore, nevermore, never

Nevermore, nevermore, never

Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore, never

Nevermore, nevermore, never

Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore

Looking on closely but not being bothered by all the walkers nearby. Corvus coronoides. HWW

They are such intelligent birds.

Well, it wasn't midnight and dreary, I was pondering but not weak or weary, so seeing this Raven on a sunny day, means happness and good things, come my way.
