Photo taken in the rauk area in the "Gamla Hamn" (Old Port) Nature Reserve on the island of Fårö, located north of Sweden's largest island Gotland, in summer 2022.
Gotland is a separate region and province in Sweden, which includes the island of Fårö.
Raukar formed about 400 million years ago
As you drive along the west coast of Fårö, a small island south of Gotland, you are greeted with a spectacular landscape of a rock infested scenery. The magnificent rock formations along the coast, called Raukar, are limestone's that have been formed over time by the wind and water that have slowly eaten away the softer surfaces.
Gotland and the small island of Fårö is well worth a visit.

Raukar Langhammars
A rauk is a column-like landform in Sweden and Norway, often equivalent to a stack. Rauks occur often in groups called "raukfält" or "rauk fields". The limestone rauks of Gotland in the Baltic Sea are among the best known examples.
Fårö (sheep-island), this beautiful island and home for Ingmar Bergman during a long time and until he died. He is even resting here on this island.
It is morning and I walk slowly down the coast. The waves hit the beach in a rhythmic melody. Two sea stacks appear majestic as I step out of the forest down the beach to reach my goal. I'm here to photograph the sea stacks at Folhammar natural reserve on eastern shores on the island of Gotland.
I see two intertwined Raukar standing stately surrounded by the waves from the ocean. They embrace each other and they are alike as two peas in a pod. Maybe they are twins.
