Every year a typical village fair has always been a central attraction on the occasion of Rathajatra festival in the village Kulakash, District Hoogly, West Bengal, India. My friend and I were lucky enough that we got a wonderful sunset during which the villagers were returning to their home with the stuffs they bought from the fair. And we never missed the opportunity to have some of our finest ever photographs in a single photo walk with my bosom friend.

Rathajatra at Hindu temple, Omaha, NE

Far from the busy life of Kolkata into the heart of a small village of Hoogly district, West Bengal, India, was once more my destination this year to have a glimpse of Rathajatra Utsav. The village of Kulakash, situated on the bank of river Damodar with all its green aroma and wonderful horizon always triggered my photographic passion. Its beautiful, simple-hearted, and warm villagers have always been my fascinating subjects to watch and wonder. And finally, their religious faith, devotion and goodness touched my soul with untitled joy and bliss. The small village fair had all its simple elemental characters but so traditionally rich from the soil of Bengal. Here I would like to share some memorable moment I captured through my lens…….

The Jagannath Temple of Puri is famous for Rathajaytra or the Chariot Festival. Jagannath along with is brother Balaram & sister Subhadra is pulled in chariot to another temple known as Masir Bari. A week later the Chariot retraces is journey back to the original temple.

Although a trademark of the Jagannath Temple of Puri the festival is celebrated throughout India. The Rathajayatra at Mahesh, near Srerampur, in Hooghly district of West Bengal dated back more than six centuries and considered only next to Puri.

The towering naba ratna (nine pinnacled) rath is pulled in a wild rampage, under the strict supervision of Police.

The photo was taken on 3rd July 2011 on the 615th anniversary of the Mahesh rath.

This picture was taken during the recent Ratha Yatra festival in my home town. The elderly lady is giving out food.

Ratha Yatra is a huge Hindu festival held at Puri in the state of Orissa, India during the months of June or July. Since 1968 the Ratha Yatra festival has become a common sight in most major cities of the world through the ISKCON Hare Krishna movement. Its leader A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada successfully transplanted the festival which now happens on an annual basis in places all over the world in over 100 cities including Dublin, Belfast, Birmingham, London, Bath, Budapest, Melbourne, Montreal, Paris, New York, Singapore, Toronto, Antwerp, Kuala Lumpur and Venice, CA. The Rathajatra in Dhamrai, Bangladesh is one of the most important in Bangladesh.

It is a celebration of equality protesting all sorts of injustice and inequality. May the shower of divine blessing fall upon all. Rathajatra greetings to all. ATTRACTION:

Dhamrai area around 40 km from Dhaka. It is easy to go there from any part of Bangladesh. From Dhaka city it takes one hour drive to reach there. Once every houses of this village used to be metal craftsman and they used to work with brass. These craftsmen have been in this trade for the last hundreds of years and supplied the greater India with statues for temples, utensils for homes and decoration. Now only very few families are sticking to it, but depending mainly on orders from overseas.
