I got a shot that I was going to use for the transport theme a few weeks ago. Then, over the weekend, I came across this guy and heard his story and couldn't resist sharing.
I was wondering through a car park when I saw this, and knew I had to stop and get a photo. My partner left me behind and continued into the supermarket. As she walked through the doors she heard a guy saying "Oh look, Fatty's getting his photo taken". As I walked in behind her, the guy starting chatting to me and telling me the story of the car.
Fatty was rescued from a scrap heap, and his owner Mitch has been doing it up. Mitch and his partner have written a children's book about rescuing Fatty, and now they travel around to local schools and libraries reading their story to kids. They were really enthusiastic about telling me the story - showed me the book they had written and encouraged me to check out their facebook page. They are now in the process of rescuing other old cars and getting them running again - it seemed like a cool project. They seem very passionate about rescuing old machinery that people have forgotten about. I'm glad I got to meet them and hear their story, and I had to pass it on for my "transport" photo for Week 11 of the Dogwood challenge.
If you’re willing to do your own work, barter for parts, use found objects, and nix needless luxury items such as a stereo and safety, then you can have a rat-rodded volksrod this cool for well under $1000. This rusted ride features suicide doors, battery crate where the passenger should be and a big honkin’ diesel truck engine...cuz what has the environment done for you lately? Nothing, that’s what!
Built for the Over A Million, Under A Thousand build challenge denoting the very rich from the not so much.

Open house at the Welderup shop in Las Vegas, featured some unique vehicles and the friendly people who built them.
Not done yet, but this is the basic idea. After the truck caught fire at a burnout contest last fall (which I missed documenting; I heard the combustion was pretty spectacular), it was time to repaint. Hopefully hereafter, black flames will be the only ones engulfing his ride.
