Loved this shot - hadn't seen an osprey drop his wings quite like this, but it reminded me of an angel. Many thanks, random fish hawk, for cooperating... :)

Common Kestrel hovers above my head

Ypache Tsuga

Here, she is sitting on a fence post in front of a beech tree in the garden...She may well be contemplating her name.

Eliot says cats must have three names. Ypache has two. However, I often call her Ypache McClatchey; well, she IS Scottish, after all.

Her middle name is a nod to her mother, Aspyn, named after a beautiful willow tree and, as we had just returned from a road trip from California, through Oregon to Washington, I decided to use the western hemlock or Tsuga.

“When you notice a cat in profound meditation

The reason, I tell you, is always the same

His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation

Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name

His ineffable, effable, effanineffable

Deep and inscrutable singular name

Name, name, name, name, name, name.”

TS Eliot - ‘The Naming of Cats’

this Raptor gives the surroundings an unyielding inspection on a cold morning above the snowy meadow

I'm never a hundred percent sure of the id between the Sharpie and a Coopers but he seemed to be a young adult with eyes turning a yellow/orange on their way to red. He also has the strong appearance of the "Cooper's cap" and did seem to be more crow-sized. I did not get a good enough look at the tail formation to be sure so I'll leave it to any who might feel more definite about the id.

Thank you for visiting!

I felt like I was standing in a very unsafe spot and got caught!

He looks like the garden pet!

But know., this is a wild buzzard., and he's an absolute beauty as well

You'll know by now we 'love' our raptors., and spend a lot of time chasing them around.,

Doing all of this we have got to notice the variations in colour and even facial features from one bird to another

Even in the avian world., some birds are just better looking than others & this one could easily get a job as a part-time model!

There are bound to be confrontations when two different raptors share the same hunting territory. The smaller Short-eared Owl always tries to chase away any Harrier in in what it thinks is 'his' local hunting area. It is always very exciting to observe such wild animal behavior.

Not sure exact type of Eagle ,possibly a Changeable Hawk Eagle? lt was photographed in Bharatpur Bird reserve.Perhaps someone could put me right if l am wrong. Thanks.

Just a fern, but for some reason it reminds a raptor's foot.

A beautiful Sunday and a beautiful pose...

The pale chanting goshawk is an opportunistic raptor and eats a wide variety of prey including small mammals, lizards, birds, large insects and carrion. It has also been recorded predating upon Tent tortoise and Leopard tortoise hatchlings which are swallowed whole while the shell is still soft. There is some evidence of social hunting in breeding groups but solitary hunting is the norm. Pale chanting goshawks commonly associate with foraging Honey badgers and feed on organisms that are flushed by the Honey badger's feeding activity. This association increases the hunting opportunities and prey capture success of the pale chanting goshawk while the honey badger does not suffer any loss of foraging efficiency. (Wikipedia)

Ospreys such as this one are unique among North American raptors for their ability to dive into water to catch fish, which is their primary food source. And they are very good at it. "Over several studies, Ospreys caught fish on at least 1 in every 4 dives, with success rates sometimes as high as 70 percent," according to AllAboutBirds.org. This bird was photographed near the Fox River in Northern Illinois.

Just look at those eyes....

I can't say which breed of raptor this is, I saw it years ago at a country show. Can anyone tell me what type of bird of prey it is? Thank you for the identification which is that it is a Gyr Falcon.

I posted this in 2019, and decided today to redo with better noise reduction software: DxO PureRAW 3.

These small raptors have become more fearful of humans (us) in the past four years.

Thanks for looking.

We got close to this Osprey and its breakfast due a developing drama above us. A bald eagle was circling with, we suspected, plans to coerce this Osprey to drop its meal. The Osprey's mate was busy chasing off the questionable character, to a happy ending. We later saw the two Osprey fly off together, this one carrying the meal. We could then proceed across this bridge on our hike.

If it walks like a Raptor and roars like a Raptor… you’re probably looking at an F-22.

If you mix a small raptor.,maybe a Sparrow Hawk with a pigeon you get a?... Cuckoo!

Sounds crazy... but if you think about it?

Taken late afternoon just as the light was turning a beautiful gold yellow colour, never usually that lucky.

I love to watch the raptors in autumn as they seem to enjoy playing in the wind.

To my eye, this osprey looks badly undernourished. I'm not sure what's going on with this bird.

Had to shot him through the branches - saw him on a walk through the neighbourhood.

While in the middle of moving into a new flat i saw somenthing landing on the roof of the neighbour building. Looking closer it was a sparrow hawk. I quickly grabbed my camera and got some nice shots. So cool to have these raptors in the middle of the city.

I took this image 18 months ago, with an ISO of 8,000

When I took it my Photo Shop skill was basic and no knowledge of noise reduction.

I have since re-edited and this is the result.

Golden Eagle Power - October 2017.

I first got my start in photography and videography back in the 90s when I was leading the video department at Fox Racing. I always loved telephoto zoom lenses and the impact they create when shooting from distance and compressing a scene.

A few years later I bought a 35mm camera and a 100-500mm Sigma so that I could document the surf trips we used to go on.

It wasn’t until around 2015 that I began aiming my zoom lens at wildlife, nature and landscapes. It was a whole new perspective and one which I fell in love with quickly.

Initially, wildlife intrigued me and particularly RAPTORS. So I began a pursuit of trying to get better and more importantly, learning how to quickly identify what is what. It was a steep learning curve but one that is fun to pursue.

In 2017 I came across this Golden Eagle scene and to this day it is the best golden opportunity that I’ve ever encountered. It was hunting from a fence post as I was driving past and I was able to pull over and get a sequence as it jumped and flew by me.

2017 was my high water mark for wildlife shooting. Back then, that is pretty much all I shot. Since that time, I have begun to focus more of landscapes, seascapes, moonscapes, and Astro-photography. But roots often call you back, and I’ve never really left, so I continued to enjoy chasing after elusive raptor and wildlife ops.
