We saw this White-tailed kite catch a small rodent and retreat to a favorite perch for consumption. Once again a cloudy start to the day made for diffused light. This is probably ~75 yards/meters from the Old Port Isabel Road. We figured that being the last nice day before a cold front, it would be less populated than any of the parks.
The title is a reference (obscure) to the engines on the SpaceX rocket are also named raptors.
It's that time of year again with lots of eagles showing up. Each year I challenge myself to out-do my best shot. I'll be hard-pressed to beat this shot, but I'm going to try:

A bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) soar’s over California’s American River in search of fish. A magnificent, emblematic raptor.
It is such a strange feeling when you think that they are too busy to pay attention to you then all of a sudden...busted.

To celebrate my recent promotion at work, and because I believe I'm worth it, I'm going to do RIAT properly this year and have just booked my FRIAT tickets (Mach 3). It'll be my first time in the FRIAT enclosure so I'm really looking forward to it!

Since my last, but long ago, posted photos were of hawks, I thought I would finish the series with this capture of raptor love.
These red-shouldered hawks are of the "Florida" form which have distinctly less coloring than those of the "California" form previously posted.

Another quick shot, plan on making a civilian version of this with a different cabin set up, defo a personal favourite of my own builds as it achieves everything I want in a vehicle and at a smaller size then I'd managed in previous years/vehicles. Still forgot to put that red light on in the hood that lights the cabin up..oh well another time!
