These buildings are often referred to as Lighthouses, when in fact they are actually Range Lights. mariners use them to find the opening of the port (Harbour). With the rising waters and more frequent high surges from the winds these are taking a battering. I hope someone comes to the rescue before they are demolished. My web site is finally up and running. The address is ROHphotosonline.com

I caught this beautiful rainbow along the eastern edge of the Sneffels Range (near Ridgway, CO) in between monsoon storms one evening during my recent trip. You just never know what you'll see when the monsoon is active.
I caught this fabulous sunrise over Mears Peak in Colorado's Sneffels Range earlier in the week. The lupine are definitely near peak in the area.
The last light of day pulls cloud strings and billowing skeins into a tapestry of red and orange, Northern Mummy Range, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
After several hours of rain, it was unclear what might happen as the sun finally made its way towards its damp exit. The sky was leaden and nondescript for what seemed like a very long time. I wandered about amongst the willows, keeping tabs on a doe as she marked my every step with either her ears, eyes, nose, or all three. Deer synthesize the world via some exquisitely keen senses - in a way it's very hard to imagine. Natural history musings aside, I was very pleased when a reddish tinge began to build in the underbelly of some of the higher clouds. The light shifted continuously and in all three dimensions as it played across the various layers of atmosphere. Quite a reasonable number of mosquitoes made it their mission to extract nutrients from me to fuel their next generation; I made it as difficult for them as I could, ensuring only the most stealthy would go on to reproduce.
I was invited last minute to backpack up Hague Creek with my youngest son by a neighbor who was taking his three kids. Realizing I had no plans except continuing to work on a cider press that has absorbed far too many of my evening hours, we packed up and headed for the hills. The whining, sanguine, crepuscular denizens of the willowed sub-alpine reminded me why I should always remember to bring adequate supplies of bug spray to the Rockies in July.
Thanks for the visit!

The Diablo Range (Devil Range) is a mountain range in the California Coast Ranges subdivision of the Pacific Coast Ranges. It is located in the eastern San Francisco Bay area south to the Salinas Valley area of northern California, the United States. (Wiki)
The Range Rover was introduced to the public back in 1970.
Combining the comfort of a Rover Saloon Car with a Land Rover’s tenacity, the early Mid Size SUV came with spacious accommodation for driver and passengers.
The powertrain with a modified Buick 215 V8 engine, Rover’s groundbreaking gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive system on long-travel coil springs made the Range Rover well capable on an off road.
Musée du Louvre exhibited an early model as an „exemplary work of industrial design“. Early models had very basic interiors, Rover’s Saloon Car features like power-steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth seats and wooden interior trim were fitted in later during production.
Like the real car, the model features a Technic ladder frame chassis on coil spring suspension and rigid axles.
The build is Creator Expert sized, length 39 studs, 14 width, height about 17 studs.
Thanks a lot to The Lego Car Blog : )
BNSF 7921 leads a southbound vehicle train through Colorado Springs, CO.
I don't catch many SB autoracks, but I see my fair share of NB racks. Those NB vehicle trains typically run 1x1, so I was happy to see this one running with the power up front.
Heading into April 2016, traffic on the Joint Line has been down ~70% with the line seeing an average of 10-12 trains per day. But on this particular morning, I saw 5 trains in a 4-hour window making it feel a little like the "classic" Joint Line...
Sunset just up the hill from where we were camping in Parachilna Gorge. Forgot to bring my tripod and didn't want to try running back to grab it, so had to hand hold all my shots, managed to keep my hands still enough to get some adequately sharp shots. This is a panorama of the view I had watching the landscape as the sun went down.
Prairie dogs (genus Cynomys) are herbivorous burrowing rodents native to the grasslands of North America. The five species are: black-tailed, white-tailed, Gunnison's, Utah, and Mexican prairie dogs. They are a type of ground squirrel, found in North America. In Mexico, prairie dogs are found primarily in the northern states, which lie at the southern end of the Great Plains: northeastern Sonora, north and northeastern Chihuahua, northern Coahuila, northern Nuevo León, and northern Tamaulipas. In the United States, they range primarily to the west of the Mississippi River, though they have also been introduced in a few eastern locales. They are also found in the Canadian Prairies. Despite the name, they are not actually canines.
Prairie dogs are named for their habitat and warning call, which sounds similar to a dog's bark. The name was in use at least as early as 1774. The 1804 journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition note that in September 1804, they "discovered a Village of an animal the French Call the Prairie Dog". Its genus, Cynomys, derives from the Greek for "dog mouse" (κυων kuōn, κυνος kunos – dog; μυς mus, μυός muos – mouse).

A panorama looking over the town of Ellensburg at the Stuart Range. Maybe next time I can get a day when the atmosphere is clear. There was a little smoke/haze in the air.
Long exposure capturing the churning storm clouds glow in beautiful light as the sun sets behind the Tenmile Range Colorado. Quandary Peak.
The western group of the Snowy Range catches afternoon light and reflects in a high-elevation tarn, Medicine Bow Mountains, Wyoming. Medicine Bow Peak (12,018 ft; 3,663 m) is the highest point in the range and sits on the left in the photo. As there was absolutely nobody around and the air temperature was decently warm, I dared my two boys to strip off their clothes and jump into the icy water with me. After I plunged in and then struggled for breath as I made my way back to shore, only my youngest son took me up on the idea. The first thing he said after his head bobbed back above the surface was, “Help!” I extended a hand and pulled him safely back onto the warm rocks so he could dry off.
Today marks the first autumn snow where I live in Boulder, Colorado. As fresh-pressed cider ferments in the basement and leaves begin to drop, the summer feels increasingly distant.
Thanks for the comments and for stopping by!
Image taken in Colorado, USA, where there were no fences in this area, just open range. Thanks for the visits!
The Cheam Range in the Chilliwack Valley.
Due to its proximity, the views across the valley from Upper Pierce Lake are stunning. With the creek dropping off the edge as an excellent foreground I tried to capture it at least 3 times - different light during the day. My favourite was this, my first attempt, in early evening.
Any help in noting the peaks is always apprectiated...

I just stayed at a campsite near this spot one night, but the Wind Rivers are quite a good-looking range of mountains.... there are seven thirteeners in this view starting with Mt. Sacajawea on the far right, 13,607 feet.

Reaching back to September for another shot of the Canadian Rockies taken during our remarkable four day jaunt through Jasper, Yoho and Banff. On this particular morning, we were busy trying to set up shots of the boat house on the Northern end of Maligne Lake when I noticed the sun hitting the Colin Range in the distance. Not wanting to schlep around the 70-200 (which was left at home), I reached instead for the 24-70 and hoped for the best. It's worth pointing out that I cropped the heck out of this, but on a D800, the cropped image was still near 6000 pixels on the long end. We eventually made it out to Spirit Island later than morning, but I would have gladly frozen my butt off in the nearby campground to catch this light out there. Still trying to figure out how to pull that off in the future. In the mean time, I was pretty pleased with the performance of the Nikkor 24-70 considering this was taken not too far from the boat dock on the North end of the lake.
We didn't get to stay too long that morning. As soon as we came back from the cruise, we set off for Emerald Lake back in Yoho for the sunset and we barely made it there in time.
