I eventually took these down as we were afraid they would start a fire next to the hot incandescent bulbs. (Yes, my parents still use incandescent in some areas of the house. I secretly swapped out the incandescents for CFLs at my parents house, but in some areas like the dining room, they prefer the warm color from energy-burners).

these stained glass things are called Makit & Bakit. They are made by putting plastic pellets inside a metal frame on top of a cookie sheet with aluminum foil; and then putting them into the oven to bake and melt the plastic pellets into the translucent colorful stained glass of Christmas and holiday ornaments.

Fantastic fog, interacting with classic architecture, wonderful framing device with the beautiful blooming trees, excellent gray tonality. This photo has a lot of nice things happening. Makes sense that it would pull in at #3 for 2012. I personally would rather this be my number one photo. It's better than the previous two. Like a man torn between a life he lives and the one he wants, there are planets out there that orbit two stars. Such a planet experiences gravitational pull from both stars and ends up yo-yoing between them without a stable orbit. Bouncing thus for millennia, there comes a moment in time when the rogue planet is disowned by both stars and is literally ejected into interstellar space where it spends the rest of its time traveling through numbing darkness. Where there was the uncertainty of two stars before, now the only certainty for the orphan planet becomes the endless journey in the dark matter of infinite space.

Like a planet torn between two stellar gravitas, there are nomad men out here who chase impossible dreams. Such a vagabond yo-yos between what he has and what he wants and lives a life of rootless uncertainty. But then, there comes a time when the dream-chaser tames or outruns most of his dreams and his binary worlds collide with thunderous explosion. Like his cosmic metaphor, he too is ejected from the comfort of the familiar into realms unknown. Relegated to a Sunless world of infinite darkness, he is numbed by the ethereal chill where dazed senses do not court dreams anymore. He realizes that taming and conquering dreams comes with a non-negotiable ticket for a lonely journey though the mighty darkness of one’s solitude. The dreamer dreams no more, but the price for daring to dream once stays on the tab for ever.

It has been said often the bond between a mother and her daughter(s) is one of a kind. I had an amazing relationship with my mom. I know my relationship with my mom was on a different level than the relationship she had with my sister or even my brothers. Nevertheless, a mom’s relationship is as with any other relationship full of ups and downs, complications and hiccups.

Daughters often look to their moms for inspiration, encouragement and motivation. We turn to them when things are not going as planned and many times to be our guiding light when things seem so dark, full of doom and despair.

My mother gave us unconditional love and support. She was my biggest ally and the most supportive person in my corner when I set my mind to accomplish a goal, even when she didn’t understand why that goal was so important to me.

I share this picture of my sister and I with our mom because when my dad got sick and it became too much for my nephew and I to take care of both him and her I had to call on my sister to come back to Cali to help me. Without any hesitation, all she said to me was “when do you want me to get there”.

This is our first Mother’s Day without you physically here with us. It hurts not to have you here with me, but I know you are truly in a better place. No more bad days full of pain and suffering. I know you are surrounded by so many who have gone before you that love you as much as I love you. I know they welcomed you with open arms and are making up for lost time with you, especially the boys 2 + 2 as I refer to them now. Like the Allstate commercial “You are in good hands".

Happy Mother’s Day. I am sad, but I am happy. My pain of missing you did not take me completely out. Today I made sure I celebrated you, a great mom in a very special way that allowed me to appreciate you even more.

Then we entered the fourth

degree of inner turbulence,

where nine held a ten

ready to become a two

in the form of two ones

placed not casually side by side.

Every time I

thoughtlessly look at

my watch

two dots separate four standing ones,

doubled number of angels

turned into matches around

a single shy shell

resounding like a bronze bell.

So one becomes now two,

two is an eleven again,

hiding the tenth reason

to let ignite a fifth burning season.

This is the first photo in a series of photos featuring Chicago's Olympic bid posters placed around the Loop this week. So far I have at least eight photos in this series. I will be posting one photo here every day, so stay tuned.

The logo designed for the Chicago bid featured here in this poster has some nice symbolism. The skyline seen in the olympic flame represents how Chicago rose out of the ashes of a fire. The blue and green in the handle are supposed represent the lake and green parks. That is one thing that people around the world should remember about chicago--our fantastic unencumbered lakeshore. It was a great part of Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago in 1909. in Personally, I think the green really represents how sustainable chicago is). In the background of this photograph is Chase Tower (formerly called Bank One Plaza and First National Plaza) It's the ninth tallest building in Chicago, the tallest building inside the Chicago 'L' Loop elevated tracks, and the twenty-ninth tallest in the United States.

About the posters:

Chicago is making a bid to host the Olympics in 2016. Billboards and posters went up in the Loop area of downtown Chicago the weekend before the U.S. Olympic Committee came to visit Chicago to evaluate Chicago's venues and plans for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The posters say, "Stir the Soul."

"Stir the Soul" probably comes from the famous Daniel Burnham quote, "Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will not die, but long after we are gone be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistence."

I find inspiration in this quote by Dan Millman. “Life comes at us in waves. We can’t predict or control those waves, but we can learn to surf”.

It was such a nice day today in chicago, I walked over to the beach during lunch and wrote "yay for spring" in the sand. I like how part of the water wave comes in the upper right of the photo. Especially how it's got a sparkle to it.
