“Health centres are also strategically important to us. A lot of women and children visit them for consultations or to collect their medication. Everyone was really interested. Even the children wanted to know more - you can see how many there were in this photo. We used straightforward images and messages and handed out leaflets which they could take away with them."

Simple pictures are an effective way of communicating safety messages. This is an example of one of the leaflets distributed.

CLEAN-UP 20th of February 2019
Having a clean, up-kept environment benefits all members of the community.
Unfortunately, some areas are in need of some cleanup, which has a big impact on the community, as well as the environment.
STUDENTS AND CLUB MEMBERS OF SHARJAH HIGHER COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY with their faculty mentors and founders of the SBI club and the Innovation Club at Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology: Malini Nair and Abdul Ghafar, ADEAREST,
MY GREEN CHAPTER,and Priscilla van Andel, wildlife and nature enthusiast/photography took an initiative to clean up this morning at 10 AM along the Sharjah Kalba road.
Within no time we had loads of waste bags filled with plastic, empty cans, broken bumper pieces, glass, construction materials such as pieces of rubber pipes and steel, plastic bottles and bottle caps, straws, rugs, sun shade covers.
Animals’ burrows covered with litter.
Many passersby in cars stopped for a second to give a thumbs up and there were 2 men who felt inspired and helped us with the cleaning.
More clean-ups to follow.
"We asked the town crier to walk down the main streets with his loudspeaker, warning people not to go near unexploded weapons. Other messages were targeted at local authorities so they would know what to do if they came across an explosive weapon."

"Just after the awareness session, some of the children were already explaining to their mothers what they had been told. Word of mouth works really well because everyone realises that, to avoid having a serious accident, you need to know the facts.”

“Lastly, we travelled to Sama because we knew there had been heavy fighting there. Here, we are talking to a small group of people who were working in a field. We explained that, because the fighting had taken place very close-by, it was important to make sure children and people looking for wood should not go anywhere near any explosive weapon that they encounter. The people showed us where they saw fighting take place and this information will help us to identify any other explosive weapons very quickly, so that we can then send a weapons clearance team to neutralise the threat.”

"A crowd quickly gathered round to listen to us and ask questions about the threat from these weapons. There was a lot of interest because no one had been given any information up to that point. We used images to show them what dangerous objects such as shells, grenades and ammunition, look like, and what to do if they come across one of these objects.”

“In this photo we are talking to people visiting the market in Konna. Risk education sessions have to reach the maximum number of people, but it is also important to reach the right audience, such as displaced people, children, and people travelling along the most dangerous roads. People from the small villages around Konna come to town on market day, so it’s an ideal time to run these sessions."

Mandy is an idiot. Infact she’s a right nob, but she’s hilarious and adorable so that makes it ok. Sometimes horrible thing’s happen to the nobbiest of people. When faced with her own mortality, how does she cope? She laughs into the cleavage of cancer....because laughter really is the breast medicine.
Mandy debuted in stand-up back in 2014 at The Women in Comedy Festival and she has been making people spit their drinks out with laughter ever since. Now Mandy brings her debut solo show to MCR Fringe. Here are some lovely things the audience have said about her Twin Peaks....
"Buckle up for a journey through twin peaks- a rollercoaster of a show that is emotional, educational, entertaining and totally unmissable! Take tissues, wear Tena, prepare to laugh at the taboo but don't miss this amazing show"
"A fantastic debut show, from laughing to crying and laughing again it was hilarious, honest and very heartfelt. It was a privilege to be part of your audience this evening."
"An extremely witty, well written piece that touched me deeply"
WARNING: This show contains oversharing, inappropriate behaviour and references to breast cancer.
Some of the ticket sales will go to Macclesfield Cancer Resource Centre.

“We are working closely with health centres to get our messages across and to identify victims. Here, we’re showing three nurses how to raise the awareness of the people they meet."

One of my five final piece photos.
Again the title says it all. I originally had the idea to edit or use make-up to create scars along the persons arm, however after taking this I decided it didn't desperately need it. I was also tight for time before I had to hand it in at the end of my exam so decided to leave that bit out. Please comment and tell me what you think :).

For this issue I wanted to focus more on eating disorders to do with negative image of the persons body, and wish to be "perfectly" skinny, such as Anorexia. The idea behind this photo was to write what the person saw of her own body all over her. I'm really pleased with the result but please tell me what you think :).

ya gotta love facebook. a good friend of mine here in town posted an item about an earthfest event at grand central; a friend of his, an artist, was doing an installation called "not without a trace" in conjunction with the new york audubon society, to raise awareness about threatened and endangered birds in new york. using this as an impetus to get out of the house, i trained it down to midtown to see what this was about -- i mean, birds + grand central spelled nirvana to me.
i didn't see her booth at first -- just the chalk outlines of birds on the asphalt. i found the table, and saw she wasn't scheduled to appear for another hour and a half. i asked a woman sitting at the table if tara was there, and she said, "that's me!" i told her i was nate's friend, the one with the camera, and her face positively lit up (she remembered me from facebook). so we chatted a bit, and she explained that the project had people, strangers, draw silhouettes of birds on the sidewalk. so i drew a bird, bought one of her art prints, and shot her portrait. she seemed lit from within, so happy to be doing what she was doing.
her work's fantastic, and you can see more about the project on her site. and get down to grand central if you can -- it's worth it just to watch people make their way around you as you squat like a six-year-old, drawing birds in the street.

Walked to the centre of our local village and did some promotional meditation. Three meditating, two handing out leaflets. We were publicising our classes and rasing awareness ...
This is a tiny photo story - see it all for best viewing.

Team Emma Grace showed up in full force today at Grandscape in The Colony, TX, for the Breakthrough T1D Dallas Walk! We are so incredibly grateful for this amazing team of teammates and supporters who came out to walk alongside Emma Grace and help raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes research.
Going into the centre of Manchester and meditating in bright orange tee-shirts can be dangerous! On this promotional drive we had a few objects thrown at us and a fair bit of abuse from passers by.
It's difficult for me to understand this kind of thing ... it's not like were causing any harm - quite the opposite in fact.
I suppose it's such an unusual sight, perhaps a little alarming to some folk.
Still, many were happy to see us and we were happy to 'advertise' the life affirming expansive activity of meditation.
It is winter in the U.A.E. people are out in the desert and mountains and leaving so much waste.
So this was our 3rd Clean-up action. We know we won't be able to clean all places, but we want people to realize what they are doing to the planet.
It is truly a disgrace what people leave behind (for others to clean up? )! Unfortunately also companies either dumping their waste or just leaving materials behind wherever they are working.
Thank you very much to everyone who participated
