A railroad crossing in the middle of nowhere near Buonconvento in Tuscany.

Another shot while waiting at a stoplight...

Being the engineer on a train must be thrilling, even more so at night.

An old building in the west part of town, constructed of my favorite “giraffe stone” that was so popular around here years ago....did I mention that it’s on Route 66?

Time goes faster the more hollow it is. Lives with no meaning go straight past you, like trains that don’t stop at your station.

The train doesn't stop anymore, but here is a reminder that it once did more then just whistle.

I loved this building so much that I decided to post a slightly different angle of it from a previous post I have made. There is so much character here and I felt the urge to share it again.

This is an image from my Holga Pano. The image below was from my iPhone. Some of you wanted to see the comparison. I favor both but of course ;) Analogue will always have my heart.

I wonder what this building's story is? Each building, like us, has a story or even memories that will last forever. I wonder if the memories here were good ones?

Early Saturday morning and the sun is making a valiant attempt to exert himself. His efforts are in-vain, as the biggest storm of the season is poised to wallop us. High winds and heavy rainfall are in the forecast, but few of us will argue with that. If it gets too bad, there's always a southbound train.

Happy Slider's Sunday everyone.

Dual engines pulling freight

Image taken from within a darkened tunneled area, behind this railroad crossing gate.

There was delay due to a railway switchman making a track switch.

If you look closely at the engine, you may notice the door is open and the engineer is looking towards me.

On the train ride from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, some people had to stop at the closed barrier and wait until the train had passed. They do this with a peculiar SriLankan serenity and patience.

A view of Union Pacific 8310 southbound in New Braunfels crossing W. San Antonio St. In the background is the Art Deco-style Brauntex Theatre.

UP 8310 is a diesel-electric locomotive produced by Elecro-Motive Diesel, an Illinois-based company owned by Caterpillar. The locomotive entered service in 2005.

The Brauntex Theatre opened in 1942. It was design by by Jack Corgan, best known for the theaters he designed in the southwest United States, and the Corgan copied the design for the Brauntex from one of his earlier works, the Washita Theatre in New Cordell, Oklahoma.

The Brauntex was integrated during the 1960s. After integration patrons could sit anywhere in the theater; 40 cents upstairs or 50 cents downstairs. In late 1999 the by then run-down Brauntex came under the ownership of the Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre Association. WIth community contributions, renovation of the Brauntex began almost immediately and the theatre reopened in 2000 as a performing arts venue. Since then the theatre has undergone several phases of renewal. The Brauntex Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

-----

On the 23th of March I made my first picture of the day at the railroad crossing of the Chemin de Pendu in Soignies. As my first duty of that day was to take the children to school, i knew that it would impossible to go to a location south of Soignies. The chance to miss the train was quite high, especially when it would run on time (and I speak of experience).

Needless to say, that the train had that particular day a delay of about 30 minutes :-)

Trains Go By Ron Brown

I’m sitting at the railroad crossing

And trains go by

Counting all the cars

As they go chugging by.

Waiting to hear from the engineer

Blowing his horn loud and clear

Sitting at the railroad crossing

And trains go by.

There’s a cattle car

And a tanker too

And a big flatcar

Hauling lumber for me and you.

There’s a hopper car

With a load of grain.

And a big boxcar

With a caboose at the end of the train.
