Der Kohlependel vom Kraftwerk Mumsdorf zurück zum Tagebau nach Profen hier auf der Flutbrücke bei Tröglitz. Die Brücke wurde leider beim letzten Hochwasser zerstört.
I'm a native Pennsylvanian, which means I am steeped in US History, whether I want to be or not. As a teen, admittedly, I had little appreciation for growing up in a place that seemed so entirely focused on the past. It was all I could do to join the Navy and see the world of today and tomorrow.
As I get older, I look back and wish I had appreciated the education about our past a bit more. When my parents were still alive, I visited PA as often as my hectic schedule would allow and, from time to time, took my family to places like this, where they could hopefully get an appreciation for the nostalgia that I was so quick to shun.
This is late autumn in Strasburg, Pennsylvania at the historic railroad where people get an opportunity to ride on passenger trains pulled by true steam engines like this one.

This is part of the Avoca line that operates solely to transport coal from the Fingal Valley. TasRail has not operated passenger trains in Tasmania since 1978. It exists entirely as a freight transport network. It is a single line narrow gauge rail system (1067mm, 42 inches).

I shot this photo perhaps in the 1990s using a Canon Elan film camera. It's a railroad bridge in Derby, Connecticut along the Housatonic River.
I've scanned the photo to upload to my photostream.
NS 227 took just long enough to make it's way to Harrisburg to allow me to get into position at Harris Tower.
They also caught a stop signal to allow work train to finish putting away their train. So after a brief pause, they get under way, and what else is there to do but drop the shutter nice and low?
It was a nice surprise to hear Amtrak 156 call clear of the station leading this mornings target; a 2 hours and 45 minutes late Capitol Limited. It's seen here on the connection track between NS and CSX just East of the station.

Not sure how this crossing works. Also the cars were leaking their cargo of a white powder. Hope it is not toxic.

When it sensed people's movements, it turned on a surveillance light and became as bright as daytime, so I had to shoot quickly.
UP 2371 leads UP train MPRPBV-10 southbound thru Columbia, IL, just outside of Dupo, IL, on the UP Chester Sub. Having waited over 7 hours for this thing to finally show up, it's good to see a nice result and that the lead power didn't change on the way here.
