The Raibense is a martial dance originating in physical culture and sport using the bamboo stick as weapon of offence and defence. The term refers to the robust bamboo stick used by militias and brigands in Bengal up to the last century, which became a prop in this traditional dance. The Bauris and Doms of Burdwan and Birbhum districts still perform Raibense.
The dhol and kansi supply the musical accompaniment. The dancers wear anklets with bells on the right foot. In modern-day renderings, the dancers utter wild cries as the dance gathers momentum, and their movements suggest drawing the bow, hurling the spear, brandishing the sickle, and so on.
Sandip Nag of Lokchhanda Cultural Unit, Medinipur, West Bengal and his group are performing the Raibense dance.

Het RAI-zonnedak - met 1.632 panelen op dit moment het grootste van Amsterdam - is tot stand gekomen door een samenwerking tussen Nuon, Oskomera Power Solutions en financieel mogelijk gemaakt door Triodos Bank, huisbanken Deutsche Bank en Rabobank Amsterdam en een lening van het Amsterdams Investeringsfonds.
Op donderdag 23 januari a.s. van 14:30 uur tot 16.00 uur wordt het zonnedak van Amsterdam RAI officieel in gebruik gesteld door Maarten van Poelgeest, Wethouder Klimaat en Energie en Hans Bakker, algemeen directeur van Amsterdam RAI.

In the middle ages the Bengal infantry soldiers strictly used only bamboos for all fighting purposes. Today the Raibanshe dancers carry on this Bengal martial tradition in their performance through dance and acrobats. These dancers’ dress code is simple but striking consisting of white dhoti covered with a red waist band. This form of dance is traditionally performed to the accompaniment of dhol (the drum), the kanshi (a gong of bell metal) but in the recent times other instruments like flute and dhamsa (copper plate) have also been introduced.
I've had Rai a year today. :D I've learned a lot since having him and I'm so glad I bought him and joined this fantastic hobby. He will always be my baby. :D
PS: I keep thinking he's yellowed a lot (because I fear yellowing still) but he really hasn't. Taking pics of a white skin doll is kinda annoying. LOL!
