How about a nice Arizona red radish? Now that is what old Dusty will be handing out to all the little boys and girls on Saturday. And they better like it! Last year I went broke giving out fresh cabbages. Trick or Treat!

Radish in bloom. I suppose I knew somewhere in the back of my mind that a radish plant has flowers but I never gave it much thought. I recently had a radish I bought in a bag of trimmed bulk radishes start sprouting. I put it in a small dish with some water to see what would happen. After growing for about two weeks it bloomed. Who knew...

Hopefully I get some radishes and not just leaves. Also put some netting to prevent cats from jumping into the box and making a mess.

More and more you see old varieties of fruit and veg being grown again, tomatoes, apples and pear, potatoes, and now radishes.
These are Rainbow Heritage Radishes, what a lovely name eh? And what about their individual names, White Globe Hailstone, French Breakfast and Russian Zlata…
Although the radish was a well-established crop in Hellenistic and Roman times, which leads to the assumption that it was brought into cultivation at an earlier time, Zohary and Hopf note that "there are almost no archaeological records available" to help determine its earlier history and domestication.
Wild forms of the radish and its relatives the mustards and turnip can be found over west Asia and Europe, suggesting that their domestication took place somewhere in that area.
White radish contains more vitamin C than fruits, is rich in vitamin A, vitamin B6,Calcium,P,Iron, riboflavin, magnesium and copper.

Yep folks, I’m at the bored sh1tless stage of lockdown, so much so that I’m having a stab at growing some chilli and radish. I know, depressing isn’t it?
