The WGBH tower at this highest point In the Blue Hills Reservation on Great Blue Hill, the highest landform in coastal Massachusetts, named Massachusett. WGBH is named after Great Blue Hill, and is grandfathered at 98000 watts of effective radiated power (in a region where the top allowed power is about half that. WGBH-TV also used to radiate from here, but moved in the 1960s to the tower farm in Needham, Mass. Other antennas on the tower are for WKAF/97.7 (the two-bay) the NOAA Weather Radio's station, KHB35, and many other two-way radio relays. Since these shots were taken, WGBH has replaced its antenna with a new ERI, also eight bays.
The signage that was used by/for KRLD 1080am. Located on Saturn Rd in Garland Texas. This site was built in 1940. Per www.radioworld.coms' website..
*Note: This was not at the Radio Station. This is, or was, the Transmitter station.*
My understanding is that this sign is no longer there. Possibly, a collector now has it..

NAB Building with logo. The National Association of Broadcasters has moved out and decamped for new headquarters in Southeast DC. In the meantime, their old digs, here still sporting the attractive NAB logo, is being rehabbed for a makeover and a new tenant.
Backstory here and here.
The logo reminds me of the 1960s-era NBC "snake" logo:

Farewell to Bindlegrim radio which will vanish like a ghost at the end of Jan with the death of live365 - since I'm not aware of any affordably legit way to broadcast my discoveries of 1910-1950 Halloween jazz.
It's always been a challenge to find interesting music - in large part because of the music industry itself. I can least now share my old playlists to the blog in some future entry.
Happy future hauntings all you cool musical ghouls!

PS I don't know why this article says "may" shut down. The folks at live365 were quite clear they will be no more....
The WGBH/89.7 transmitter site atop Great Blue Hill (after which the station is named), in the Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, Mass, overlooking Boston from the south. On top is WGBH's eight-bay, full-wave-spaced SHP-8AC antenna, putting out 100kw, with 98kw toward the horizon. It was replaced (story here in 2015 with a new ERI SHPX-8AC. Says that last link, "The eight-bay was chained to a 100-foot tapered pole mounted on a 130-foot Dresser self-supporting tower built for WGBH(TV) 2 in 1954. The pole diameter was more than 20 inches at the bottom and shrank to 6 inches at the top. Complex pattern distortions would result from pole and antenna flexing in moderate winds, especially the upper part of the taper." The pole was replaced by a 100-foot lambda tower also made by ERI. The 3-bay antenna below the 8-bay is WGBH's Shively 6810-3R-SS-PS. Below that is the 2-bay Shively antenna of WKAF/97.7fm.

Since flickr is a family-friendly website, I won't go into the specific details of how rudely I was treated by Radioworld at the recent motorcycle show (but I will say it involved the centre guy in the blue shirt using the F word to me when I made him a very reasonable offer for a GPS).
Needless to say, I will NOT be buying the $700 GPS unit I was thinking of buying from them.
Instead, I will spend my money at www.gpscity.ca/ or in the states, where I'm sure I can get a much better deal anyway.
Please tell all your friends not to buy from Radioworld.
