shot at an evening at the renovated Wynnum School of Arts (now called Wynnum Municipal Hall) to see The Lux Radio Theatre production of Gone With The Wind under the proscenium arch.
Schools or Arts (often pronounced "School o' fArts") are quite a tradition in Australia; not to be confused with Mechanics Insitiutes which were for adult education and a tradition in Victoria, Australia in particular, although the two concepts are closely related. The world's first Mechanics' Institute was established in Edinburgh, Scotland in October 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh.
In Australia Schools of Arts were more like community halls; the Wynnum School of Arts rose from a public meeting held at Moreton Bay College in 1910, which was located at Bay Terrace at that time, and it was decided to erect a School of Arts. It opened in Bay Terrace in 1913 and quickly became a centre for the district. Dances, balls, meetings and fetes were all held there and it contained the area’s first library. The first horticultural shows were also held there. It was later considerably extended and by the 1930s included a concert and dance hall, supper room, and a library of 7,300 books with 300 subscribers at fifteen shillings per annum.
The Lux series has developed as a unique form of entertainment - both as a full scale evening performance or as a morning melodies/matinee show. Six Lux Radio Theatre recreation shows have played dozens of evening and daytime performances at the Victorian Arts Centre, around Victoria, the Brisbane Festival and the noosalongweekend. A distinguished group of actors play a wide range of roles, create the live sound effects and perform the classic soap commercials. The show was fantastic, particularly in this setting.

I know Bibi Blocksberg from my Childhood as Radioplay.
The Bibi and Tina series is newer and more for Horse Fans. Also they made Cartoonmovies and a real live Movie.
Best Lock makes sets for them.
I have seen a equestrian set with Bibi and a white Horse.

The voiceover in the middle and the actors playing a almost devorced couple behind him. All after the RCA microphon ( I think) . The man in the background stands ready for opening a door and making the sounds of footstaps.
Van de documentaire voor MAX tv een opname tijdens een hoorspel opname sessie in the jaren 50. Voor KRO radio het hoorspel Noodeloos Avontuur. met de aceurs en omroeper voor de RCA microfoon. More evocative perhaps is the beautiful German word: Schmetterlingsgardenie (= Butterfly Gardenia), but this wonderful white flower goes by many other names as well. Complicated Latin ones: Ervatimia coronaria, Tabernaemontana coronaria, Nerium coronarium and divaricatum; and nicely lighthearted ones such as Pinwheel Jasmine, Flower of Love and - probably translated from the Latin incorrectly - Nero's Crown. The species was given its Latin name by Charles Plumier (1646-1704) for the so-called "father of German botany", Jacobus Theodorus Tabernaemontanus (1522-1590), whose "Kreuterbuch" was highly important to early-modern botanists.
Whatever its name, this pretty blossom is a member of the Milkwood family; in other words, it bleeds white sap when its leaves or twigs are broken. This combined with the name 'Flower of Love' reminds of the great Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas (1914-1953).
His marvellously realist and yet up-beat radioplay "Under Milk Wood" describes the people of a town LLareggub - let's not go into philological detail here for propriety's sake! - in their dreams at night. Someone has written that here 'eccentricity is tolerated, sin is forgiven, love is nurtured - or at least dreamt about and possible'. Ancient Mary Ann Sailors, one of the characters in the play, knows that her town is 'a God-built garden... Heaven on earth'. And looking out of her bedroom window she exclaims softly: 'It is Spring in Llareggyb in the sun of my old age, and this is the Chosen Land'.
A Chosen Land, that is how the Singapore Botanical Gardens might be described. And this Tabernaemontanum in all its purity strikes a note of optimism.
This particular shrub was in Singapore, but the plant is found throughout southern climes of Asia, and has also become a World Citizen.

"The idea to write a piece for Monotak was suggested to me by Paul Glazier (Monotak member). It became a live radioplay, a monologue for a woman, waiting for her love in the hotelroom where they had their first sexual encounter. I call it a Tinder Opera. Paul Glazier, Ivo Bol and Dirk Bruinsma added music and soundscapes, with Dirk Bruinsma on the saxophone. Anat Spiegel composed and performed all the songs, also setting the opening text by Jenny Holzer to music. This I found on a bench at the Peggy Guggenheim museum in Venice and it suited the theme of the radioplay well.
As a writer I'm obsessed by the internet and the digital world. For my first plays I went to chat cafe's and used the chats. Later I used Flickr, Facebook and Twitter as a dramatic arena and inspiration. I have even used Wordfeud in a play.
I use both the negative and positive side effects of Social Media. As a writer I don't have to use fiction anymore. It's all there, waiting to be dramatized. New ways of communication are dramatic and challeging at the same time. They tickle your imagination. The way we communicate is being re-defined and the technology has entered the bedroom - something most brands want.
In this piece the dating app Tinder plays an important role. Dating apps have an impact in the way we fall in love. Intimacy grows.
I think it is important to keep on dramatizing the digital world and all its chaos and order, so we can keep on looking at it as if it is new. To keep on wondering about its possibilites and borders. How it effects our live, our relationships, the way we communicate - these are my questions."
This is the cover of a book by Gaberbocchus Press which details the script of the most remarkable radio play I have ever encountered, “The Quest for Corbett”, by Harold Lang and Kenneth Tynan. It is Tynan’s only radio play. To attempt to describe it I would find impossible.
I listened to its broadcast in The Third Programme in 1956, and luckily I was recording it on an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. Consequently, I was able to listen to it many times in the succeeding years and each time I derived more from it. I then found that the BBC had wiped the tapes of the play and it appeared that I held the only copy in existence. Since then I have distributed copies to a few interested parties, including the late Kathleen Tynan who rewarded me with a copy of her biography of Kenneth Tynan. The most bizarre encounter was straight out of Poliakoff - an elderly couple in north London maintained an archive about the play including letters from Harold Lang and other documentation – but they had never heard the original radio play until I supplied it to them.
