....of the Cosmos.
Forgot I had this one and thought if I don't put it up now I probably never will, and as I kind of like it.......out of time but not out of place :^)
“Self-control is something for which I do not strive. Self-control means wanting to be effective at some random point in the infinite radiations of my spiritual existence.”

Like all lichens, Xanthoria parietina depends on symbiotic algae or other organisms living within the enclosing thallus of the fungus. The algae perform photosynthesis to produce sugars. In exchange the fungus provides nutrients and an amenable environment. In this case the Trebouxia algae are widespread and often free-living, inhabiting places like tree branches. The tough thallus conserves moisture and grows thicker in sunlight to protect the algae from intense solar radiation.
Common orange lichen doesn't disperse itself as easily as many lichens. It relies on mites that feed on it, then deposit fertile faecal pellets at new locations.
This species likes coastal habitats. In the Waterloo area, it often appears near rivers or streams. This one grows on an ash overshadowing Cedar Creek. Unlike many lichen it tolerates pollution and heavy metals. Its success over other lichens may indicate higher pollution levels.

Object: The Sights in Auriga– (HST or SHO palette) – 2022
A widefield view of part of the constellation of Auriga (The Charioteer)
The field contains:
Left side of frame -IC405 (The Flaming Star Nebula -aka SH2-229 or Caldwell 31) an emission/reflection nebula in the northern part of Auriga. It surrounds the irregular, blue star AE Auriga and is about 1500 light years from Earth.
Center upper right - IC410 (The Tadpoles Nebula) a dusty emission nebula/stellar nursery at about 12.000 light years from Earth that illuminated by the star cluster NGC1893 which is about 4 million years old so still relatively young. The nebula is noted for the ”tadpole” structures that have been created by the radiation pressure from the stars in NGC189.
Right side of frame - IC417 (The Spider Nebula) – An emission nebula lit up by massive hot stars that is currently producing new stars. It is located about 10,000 light years from Earth.

An antique uranium glass perfume bottle. Uranium glass was very popular during the Victorian era; in the afternoon, when the sun is low in the sky it glows flourescent green...no artificial light needed. :-)
The language of flowers of Lycoris radiata is Reincarnation. And during Ohigan, families visit the graves of relatives and hold memorial services for their ancestors in Japan. Hokekyoji-district, Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Photographed on September 23, 2019.
Shot from before of my daughter Lilja, when we was trying to do photoshoot with gas mask to make some story feeling.
This is from my analog archives captured in June of 1974. We are looking in to cooling water of a research reactor. The blue light is produced by electrons releasing excess energy. It was taken with one of my Pentax film cameras, either an ES or a Spotmatic II. I couldn't guess which lens.
The dawn of a new day at the Rauma valley, seen from 773 m above it. The town of Åndalsnes and the Romsdalsfjord can be seen in the back.

I love it when the sun dips below broken cloud as it drops to the horizon. The colours slowly radiate out and set the clouds ablaze. Radiation is by I am Kloot.
This is not a mirror, it's an edge of the derelict, top-secret Duga-1 radar antenna, built in 1976 near Chernobyl by the Soviet Defense.
This antenna is huge, around 150 m high (500 ft) by 500 m wide (1700 ft). It aimed at detecting US missile launches, but it only proved effective in one thing: disrupting commercial aviation radio signals! More info on Wikipedia...
